Best of John's '32 Ford - American Graffiti 

I am 82 years old now but when I was 17 I had a 5 window coupe just like this one. I bought it with money I saved from delivering newspapers. I had two uncles that ran automotive shops that helped me build it into a nice little rod. Mine was painted the old Phillips 66 tan with orange wheels like on the Phillips 66 sign back in those days. The wheels had chrome rings and baby moon hub caps. It had 9.20 X16 tires on the rear with bobbed fenders and motorcycle tires on the front. The first two engines we built for it were modified Ford flat heads and later we found a 1950 Oldsmobile rocket engine in a demolished car that was in a junk yard. My uncle made an adaptor plate and we put that engine in my coupe. The engine was modified slightly with a different camshaft and three carburetors ( Speed parts were very limited in those days except for Ford V/8's and Chevy and GMC six cylinders). I thought I had a real runner until Chevrolet came out with their V/8 in 1955. A guy from another shop, that one of my uncles knew, put a 1956 Chevrolet Corvette engine in a 1938 Chevy coupe and dusted me good. What fun, those were the days and I will never forget them.!!! I still have pictures of that old car and wouldn't part with them for anything.

I saw this movie as a kid and loved it. I always liked cars, but, my parents had nothing cool or fast. At a family reunion in the mid '70's one of my much older cousins, a Vietnam vet, showed up with a '67 Pontiac GTO. He noticed me walking around it admiring it and he said, 'want a ride in it ? Of course I said yes. The car sounded great and I knew I was in something special, when he stepped on the gas and rowed through the gears with authority my destiny as a hot rodder was sealed.

My favorite part of that movie when he removes the header plugs. Miller's attitude and the sound of his car symbolizes all business no more messing around. Loved that scene since I was a little kid.

This was my Dad’s era. He graduated in 62’, wore the white t-shirt and blue jeans with the flat top haircut. He raced a souped up 50’ Mercury and won more than he lost. Dad passed away from Alzheimer’s this past August.

That film has had more influence on my direction in life than 10 years of school and collage. After seeing it, who doesn't want to be John Milner.

I saw this movie in 1973... I was 11...today I’m still a car guy and proud of it..building ..tinkering..cruising..thanks to that 55 Chevy and the 32 coupe and those open headers.

My dad was a teenager in the mid to late 50s... What a great time it must have been. The cars were cool,income was good,cheap gas. Times were(seemingly) soooo much easier than when I was a teenager in the 90s.

Most underrated film of all time. Wish Lucas would revisit this time of his life one more time.

I saw Paul Le Mat signing autographs at a car show around 2010. It was July, 150°out, and he's sitting at a table 50' from the nearest shade, all by himself. I felt so bad for the guy. Most of the people there had no idea who he was, and probably thought a homeless guy had stumbled into the fairgrounds. He looked like he'd had a very rough life, or at least a VERY rough night before, and appeared to be absolutely miserable. I don't blame him. That image comes to mind every time I'm reminded of American Graffiti.

Saw this movie in the summer of '73, I was 13....changed my life.

"John" played by Paul La Mat. I made him a kayak way back when, and one for his buddy Anthony Zerbe ... good old days in Santa Barbara. Still here after all these years! I'm still kayaking.

Love this movie, I watched it many times and never get bored of it. Young actors at the time and now famous familiar faces in the movie business. Love them all.

American Graffiti became an American Muscle Car fan's cult classic, and inspired a lot of street racing. Thumb up for this clip.

When I was a kid my dad must have drove me to the movie theater a dozen times. I just wanted to see the car's. I was about 13 now I'm 60 and I still love it. Classic!!!

Who ever thought that after painting a 32 Coupe Piss Yellow. Would be immortalized.

Those were some good times, makes me wish I could do them over again.

One of my favorite movies. All the cars, the girls, the scenes were just awesome.

Currently in Walmart waiting at the registers for the lovely wife to finish her shopping, watching this video and straight up getting goose bumps listening to those two cars roar. Damn, George Lucas and whoever was in charge of sound design nailed those scenes. This movie was lightning in a bottle and it was Hollywood when it was at it's best. At the same time, the studio had no faith in this film and even muddled with it, which shows what they knew. GL would undo their edits later on.

Met Paul. Candy and Bo....... been some yrs ago. As many times as I've seen this movie was pretty damn neat seeing them in person. All super down to earth.....good stuff

Heard an interview with Guitarist Jeff Beck recently, he saw the movie when it was still in the theaters, got completely obsessed with old ford hot rods,( still is)actually contacted Lucas and tried to get that coupe. Lucas decided to sell it to someone else. Beck made his own anyway.

I saw a yellow '32 5 window Tribute car at Cruising Grand!!!! IT MADE MY DAY!!!! Maybe I should build one!!!!

When men were real men with the best cars around. I've been an American muscle car lover since I can remember. My first car was a 66 chev impala. Babe hauled ass. Classic cars everywhere in my family. There is nothing sexier than hearing an American muscle car coming from 2 or 3 blocks away. John Milner's car is just as sexy as he is. What a total turn on. Rumbling sound make my ears sing. Love it. American Graffiti is a great movie. Just wished they'd have had more races with Milner's car.

The scene after the crash with all those power poles reminded me of the movie "Seven".

Classic movie!

When this movie came out in the theater's, l knew l had found myself. I wanted to be a "Monkey Wrenching Gear Head Greaser ". I loved Oldies from the 50's & 60's. When l got my first job and first pay check l went and bought me my first home stereo record player and my very first record album "American Graffiti ". I felt so proud that l had earned my new record player working for Standard Oil Company. Known as Chevron now. Back then we would provide full service to our customers. Fill gas , clean windows & mirrors, check tire pressure, and check radiator & engine oil. Those were the day's of customer service. My boss was nice enough to let us work on our rides when buisness was slow. We'd get the car's ready for cruising the strip on Friday & Saturday nights. Those were simpler times and very memorable. Love this movie and the cast ( except for one of the "Pharrows"- - the ugly tall one chewing gum that wanted to drag Kurt around with a car) 😎

I saw this car at a car show in Denver during the mid 1980s. Up close it's pretty rough.

The ‘58 Impala was kool as well. Jacked up rake, 59 Cadillac taillights, and dechromed. 😀

I love when he backs out of Garage and goes to the gas pump's. Wish the gas station was a Sunoco station and puts in 280 from the pump. The people will know what I am talking about if they lived then. Eythl gas was King! SHAWN

I bought a 55 Delray 210 that looked just like the one Richard Ruth built for this movie except I had no hood scoop. but a perfect job radiusing the rear wheel wells. it was built for 1/4 mile bracket racing and I bought it from a fella that did not appreciate the car like me.(cheap for 1977). most of the parts were stolen while I was away in the Army. just a body shell and frame on blocks.

Such a great movie and its sequel was pretty hot too. Toad came into his character there. Excellent porpcorn on a weekend double feature. Highly recommended! My favorite car of the whole movie? The 1958 tri tail light chevrolet. What a beautiful design. And I am not a chevrolet lover either!

I heard many years ago that the original film was three hours long but that it was cut down to a length that was concidered more appropriate at the cinema. If it's true i know many in my generation who ran to the cinema to see it. Myself included.
