Come tour Italy’s Lerici, a beautiful fishing village with sandy beaches, near Cinque Terre, but with way less tourists. Lerici is one of the best places to visit if you’re planning a trip to Liguria.
San Terenzo, Tellaro, and Lerici connect together in a bay via a promenade, and ferry boats in the summer time. Our tour gives you a taste of all three, with a walking tour through Tellaro. Your tour even takes you to Montecello, a small hamlet, above Tellaro where you’ll visit the local bell ringer, a plucky character who supervises the hamlet’s outdoor alter to Virgin Mary. She’ll also tell you the story of the the visit of a famous singer.
You’ll visit our home away from home, in a private garden estate. Perched on the top of the hill above Lerici, you’ll see the hairpin drive, tour the tiny house, and, from the pool deck and balcony, take in the magnificent views of the entire bay of poets.
Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein and invented the science fiction genre, her husband the poet Percy Shelley, and the poet Byron also lived in the Lerici area, inspiring the nickname Bay of Poets.
You can reach Lerici from airports of Genoa or Pisa, both about an hour away. The train stops at nearby La Spezia and also even closer, in Sarzana.
We stayed with Cristina in Parco LeAgave, Lerici, on the Bay of Poets www.solerosso.net

Beautiful Italy launched our trip, where we dedicate a month to each of our stays. Longing for simplicity and freedom, we sold our house, put our remaining possessions in storage, and set out with one suitcase and a carry-on each.
Most people would call what we do, slow travel. We think slow travel is a mindset that works whether you have a few days or a whole year. When it comes down to it, slow travel is really about being in the moment. Taking in all the details, being open to opportunities, and following your passions and whims.
Though we often give you our opinion as a starting point, we hope our videos inspire you to make travel your own. If the slow travel mindset led you to a great and unexpected discovery, please tell us about it! We love to hear success stories!

Hahaha. Yes - we seem to attract death defying driveways and parking spots. That car has been through a lot of tight spaces - and so far barely a scratch on it. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Thanks for watching.

Looks marvelous out there, I can see why it is your favorite. I think I would park at the bottom of the hill, but the views at your AirB&B make it worth the hike.

Great videos. Planning our first trip to Italy in June-2023 and looking for Cinque Terre alternatives. Would you recommend Lerici for 4nights stay? Interested in hiking and some beach time and obviously great food and wine. CT is looking too touristy for our taste. We are driving from Rome to Tuscany first, staying in Tuscany for a few days before heading to the Liguria area. Then back to Rome. Would love a suggestion from someone like you who has spent so much time in that area. Thank you!

Wow, that's going to be fun! Lerici is lovely for their sandy beach, walks along the promenade, and small, cute town center. You can find hiking nearby, too, though we mostly hoofed back and forth from our apartment above town and don't have experience with the trail system. The Portofino National park near Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure is nice for hiking and also close to beaches (mostly rocky ones, except Paraggi). All along the Italian coasts, beach access is mostly through the beach clubs from June-Sept. 15. In summer, many beach towns also forbid car access in ZTL zones, unless you have permission from your accommodations. Have a fabulous trip!

Hello, this video is great. What/where is the first cove/beach that is in the video? Will be staying in Lerici for a few nights in May and looks like a great quiet spot ! Thanks

Thank you for watching and enjoy your trip! The beach club of Eco del Mare opens the video. The coastline between Lerici and Tellaro also has several other pretty coves, too, with public access via stairways from the main road.

Ciao, thanks so much for this wonderful video. I will be staying in Lucca in May and will now be adding a day trip to Lerici after having watched your video. Do you think that the month of May will be equally calm in terms of visitors ?Grazie!

How fun! I hear Europe this summer will be more crowded than usual with all the rescheduled trips cancelled the last couple of years. That said, shoulder season like May is usually a good time to go vs. July and August! Lerici has very limited parking, check the situation if you're driving. Enjoy your trip to Italy!!!!

Trying to decide between staying in Tellaro, Lerici and San Terenzo! do you have any recommendations on how to pick?
@happygoluckytravel
@happygoluckytravel Год назад
What's important to you and what time of year? Lerici is the most central, with more variety in restaurants. Summer is always busy everywhere. When the ferry runs in the summer Tellaro has an especially big day-trip crowd, compared to its size. Tellaro is closest to pretty coves and smaller bays. Lerici and San Terenzo have a big long sand beach and the promenade for long strolls and great people watching.

I will be retiring to Lerici next year. Hopefully not too many tourists will invade and ruin the place as normally happens.

Lucky you! I hope you're right and Lerici stays authentic and keeps you happy. All the best for your retirement!

i am debating on renting a car. is it difficult to park in July months? is it hard to drive in this area?
@happygoluckytravel
@happygoluckytravel Год назад
Thank you for watching! Have a great trip! If you're staying overnight in Lerici, your hotel or host should provide you with a reserved parking spot and permission to drive your car into the ZTL (limited traffic zone.) Otherwise, you need to get there early in the morning before the ZTL turns on and the limited parking at the beach fills. There is a public parking lot just outside the ZTL Zone, but it fills up fast in the summer, too. A short passenger ferry runs between Lerici and Tellaro. Unfortunately, Lerici doesn't have a train station.

@@happygoluckytravel thank YOU for posting the video and the quick reply! if im staying in tellaro, can i park somewhere outside of town and leave my car there while we explore tellaro? or is it really hard to find parking in public lots like that? i dont have a hotel, only an airbnb with no parking unfortunately.
@happygoluckytravel
@happygoluckytravel Год назад
Hi, Even though parking isn't included in your rental, your host will want to help you have a smooth arrival and will know the closest, safe public parking lot. I would ask them for advice about which of the many public lots to use and by when in the day you need to get there. Some have shuttle buses. If your host won't help, search Lerici and parking for the city website with parking and ZTL information. July and August are pretty crazy in all the beach towns in Italy. Once you get the parking part down, this is a beautiful part of the world and we hope you enjoy your stay!
