Don't care how much faster today's rally cars are. For me, it'll always be about RWD machines, screaming while going sideways! The old Escort of course, being the most enjoyable to watch.
I was about 13 too when i saw a double page spread photo of a Ford advertisement in my dads paper . It was of a MK 1 RS 2000 white with blue decals a real beauty . I’m 62 now and after owning MK1 Mexico , MK1 RS 2000 , MK2 Mexico , MK 2 RS 2000 I’m still a fan 👍😊.
Ahhh the car that got me into cars. What legends these machines are, far more entertaining than the modern cars. Thank you for this it's just what I needed!
@@mad4tarmotorsportvideos just had to watch again! Is this in Ireland and does the rally still go on I REALLY need to this going on. Cornwall used to have a rally every year but sadly it doesn't happen anymore.

@@kellyward5820 my first car was a brown mk2 1.3 on a v plate my dad gave it away as I left it on the drive after I got into turbo cars thing was it had the full wide arch kit roll cage bucket seats to make a road rally car he gave them away with the car my dad's mate from Ireland come n collected it with a trailer can't remember the name but sure it was o'riley . I never saw or heard about it again 😭 . Life lessons don't fill up your dad's driveway 😂

Had a few escorts since I passed me test in the mid seventies. All great motors including a couple of 1700's with all the go and stop bits. I'm biased but you'll never get a better rally car. Easy to work on and to drive (???lol). Great video this, THANKS!!
Keep in mind, these Escorts are the evo's of the 80's Escorts. So much better handling and more hp than yesteryear. Like the Opel Kadett C nowadays. Google for Dutch rallydriver Edwin Wolves/Kadett C. A beast of a car.......

@@BigfootRCrcoverlanddave2646 ya we very lucky in Ireland. We have an event or maybe two events every weekend nearly all year and I live in the center of the country so nearly attend a rally every week. We also have closed roads over here which is great
sheer porn seeing that many MK2's in the one place,with amazing drivers,epic stuff,takes me right back to the when the Scottish rally had stages in my local forest (late 70's)

There is something so magic about Rally Mk2 Escorts. Maybe it's their small size or friendly face with the round headlights. That way they squat down at the rear and always seem to be the underdog fighting for every damn inch idk. And definitely that angry and desperate exhaust note... argh great!
These engines sound amazing. I want a 2.8 for my S4 Audi. But at 20,000 pound for a base engine? I'll stick with the V8. It sounds pretty good as it is and has just as much horsepower. Great video. I've always loved the Escorts. If I could afford one today, I'd buy it on the spot.
Nah its a piece of cake, empty roads, someone telling you what's coming up, and a light rear wheel drive car, any petrol head from the 80's did this every day, piece of cake.

Great video, must’ve taken ages to put together 👍🏻 I love a mk2 in the forests, but I don’t think there is any finer sight or sound than a full chat works tarmac MK2.

What's the thinking in preferring two door to floor door cars? The WRC rally cars seem to be happy with four or five door bodies, to no detriment? Can't be strength as the cage takes care of body stiffness. Don't think there is a four door in this video?
Think it mostly for the look of the cars and maybe the larger door size may help with getting in and out of the cars, not sure to be honest. There is one 4 door escort in the video that is driven by John Gordan but that it I think👍

Wish had bought up all those cheap escorts we used to buy for two or three hundred quid and drive around like nutters in!
I'm 10 but I love rallying and I really really want to rally a mk2 ford escort and my dad co driven my uncle that rally's a mini and I want to put a 2.5 milington engine in it and rally modified but you need time and money
