@@MrSkerpentine tbh the Fred movies were alot better than they should of been. Definitely not great movies but like there was actually effort put into the script and literally the entire concept is that Fred is just a crazy psycho being taken seriously by the writers is so funny. If the movies had more like crazy shit in it it would probably be better like the cronenberg shit in the third one. It's literally something you'd see on smiling friends. Really wish they made it for adult swim. If tim and Eric helped produce it. Holy shit it would be a classic and wouldn't have any of the trappings of nickelodeons fingers in it. (Aka needing to make it a teen comedy)
@@parkerlong2658 RU-vidr movies generaly suck, and he was one of the Pioneers, so pretty good all things considering. I remeber how big of a deal a movie about a youtube character was back in the day.

I think if you were a kid/teenager in 2008 it was funny because it was something new. It was definitely NEVER GOOD, (like a lot of the classic new grounds stuff too) but a bit of pre-facebook/twitter internet nostalgia can go a long way today.
@@GeorgeAndLennyGaming I was 13/14 when the original songs came out and I remember thinking most of them were kinda cringey back then, there were a few that I thought were decent though. most of them do not hold up at all other than the entertainment value and nostalgia they might provide

I dunno some of their new people are funny sometimes. I feel they've definitely stepped away from sketches and stuff. Mostly all they do is whatever on twitch, and unfortunately I'm not really here for it. I don't really mess around with twitch. 😅
I mean, Anthony and Ian literally decided to end their involvement and gave the channel to a bunch of kids. So of course it went downhill. It was no longer Smosh.

when i was 16 i was a complete asshole to youtubers i didnt like because i thought it made me look cool, ironic because i watched a lot of garbage youtubers back then, that was only last year lol

thats how I feel about fred tbh, a lot of the classic smosh videos are still funny and kinda charming considering they were just 2 teenagers making random shit before any sort of formula to success existed on youtube.
Unrelated to this video but when I went to a con, I saw Zach eating little turd droplets claiming they were "new season chocolates". Nonetheless it was awesome seeing him at the smiling friends panel next to Tomar and his little birdy friend.
I love that they don't know that the whole asain Fred thing was an ARG. I like to imagine that it was just so well acted that everyone believed it and stopped watching, never realizing it was staged.

44:57 video game high school is genuinely really good albeit kinda cringe and very much a product of its time, it’s one of those guilty pleasures for me & I’m so glad I didn’t make any RU-vid content growing up because I was the exact demographic for this era of RU-vid.

Otto has constantly made videos of extremely poor quality that have been uploaded to this channel. It is insulting to the other editors and the viewers to have something that looks and sounds like it was edited by an eight year old when the rest of the team works so hard on making sure their videos are of a very high quality
It's amazing how almost everything that was popular back then is almost unwatchably unfunny by today's standards. Chris and Zach were among the few exceptions, which is probably why they've survived to the present day while most of the others have long since faded into obscurity.
Because alot of those creators were aiming for a tween/kid audience and those tastes vary constantly. That and for alot of them, the rush of being a 'somebody' went to their heads.
