This is a very intricate poem with several layers of meaning. The poem starts with several lines that are just a couple letters long, either short words or followed by the word banana, the line "We Need More of These on our Beaches...Share if you Agree," followed by another single letter, Y. Most of the poem is fragments of information that could have meant something at one point, but too much has been stripped away to the point that the original messages cannot be discerned. The one complete line is the "We need more..." line, which is written like a social media post and is in title case. This lets us interpret the poem as an image of a beach, with messages in the sand that have been mostly erased by the waves, captioned by the complete line on some social media platform. Through the action of posting, the poster, who presumably took the picture, took something that was meant to be private and temporary and turned it into meaningless fragments that got permanently preserved, in a way so misunderstood that the poster asked for more of it. However, these are not the poster's true intentions, the title case shows that the picture is meant to be read as an article, and its only purpose is to generate shares, painting a stark image of life with social media. While most of the fragmented words are before the complete line, the last one is Y, which can be read as the question: why? Why are arbitrary shares so important in this modern world? Why did I spend an hour on mobile writing this, when I could be doing so many better things than a joke analysis of 20 seconds in a RU-vid video? Why are you still reading this? And most importantly, why is a bunch of random, mostly accidental Facebook posts strung together practically indistinguishable from the kind of the kind of thing you would analyze in the poetry unit of a US high school English class?
