@@whoohaaXL, well lip-reading during a fade to black was farther than I went. I Though after seeing the "a king" part in the OCR I tried adding that to my search, and it still didn't show up anywhere but that article. So I don't know if the book actually says that or if the paper was paraphrasing.

@Joshua Black Eh, not really :P People looked older earlier back then. I would say they were in their early to mid 20's. My grandparents (on my mother's side) were married in their early 20's, shortly after my grandfather came home from serving in WW2. They could easily pass for 35-40 in their wedding photo. Nowadays, many high school graduates look they are still in middle school :P

Yes we were all much more ignorant back in high school, and personally I had no clue what girls saw in us dudes, so that made it difficult to know what to do or not do, like shaving my head despite having being voted 'best hair' (how stupid I was, but there is more to that particular story though).

@@mfitzburger5137 well maybe it was too broad of an advice, what i meant was : don't be weird and creepy, have many interests and be passionate about them. Make jokes if you think you're good at it, be yourself without going overboard. Think to yourself :"would i be creeped out if a person did X to me?" if the answer is anything but "of course not", don't do or say it. Don't try to immediately hook up with someone, try to know them as you would a normal person. Depends on the situation of course, we are talking about high school here, not single's night at the leather bar. Think what kind of person you would like to go out with and think about how other people see you, because they probably have similar tastes. Think about the future not about the past and learn to work toward a goal. Think of an RPG with everyday's life simulation, like something from the Persona series. You starts with 1 in every skill and train a bit everyday to get better, the same with relationships : you talk with someone one day, some days later, maybe you discover a common interest, then you meet a friend of theirs that share the same interest, flash forward to a couple of month later and you are in a band or learning a martial art or playing a card game in a game shop together. Or maybe not, but you meet more people and learn what people like, what you like and what are your strengths. You may not agree with what other people like and that's ok too, but in my experience people react better to "i know what you are talking about and i respect it, but it's not for me" than to "Lol that sucks bruh" . So basically kind of what Kay was doing, but without the creepiness. Being passionate about a subject that interests another person makes you interesting to them, imagine that. Another thing: you can not please everybody and nobody owes you nothing, aside maybe common courtesy. Hope this answers your question.
