The defense is absolutely better but losing Bertuzzi is a blow to the forward core, and unless they found Woll some magic beans that make him stay healthy the tandem is shaky at best. Personally, my guess is that some players will be even better under Berube’s systems, while other guys like Marner will be completely useless because he’s incapable of playing a hard, physical, forechecking style of offense.

I always thought it was time to blow it up after they lost to Columbus in the play in. Trade one of those guys. Columbus was a bad team. Korpisalo got two shut-outs. Pierre Luc Dubois, Josh Anderson and Nick Foligno were the offensive stars for Columbus. They aren't very good.
John Tavares contract coming off the books will be great. You need a 2C at 6 mill and probably another winger at 5 million. I think that wins you a cup.
The way the cap projects to go up, I will be shocked if a 2C on the open market costs only 6 mil in 2026. Tre better get crafty at trading, or our int’l scouts better step up their game in Europe…
The VERY FIRST firing should have been Shanahan; we all know that he is the one that finalized every single decision every year! Trades should have been made long before this year. Waiting until after no-move clauses kicked in, is an unforgivable mistake.
Mitch and Reilly can makes ending series mistakes and still get paid for it, still on the team. Trade them both, they both suck. This core is making me hate the Leafs. Why should i cheer for losers who cant win, who cant fight?
Dubas was totally right. Tavares should never of been signed. Why? His contract, which the core mainly had better, which under the way signings work allows the core to get or surpass what tavares was getting salary wise. 2...it jumped the rebuild making the picks less valuable which im sure they could use right now. They would have better filler pieces then they do. I have zero faith in this gm. Hes the worstin the league. He's already let a core piece walk for nothing in Arizona. MLSE has made tens of millions more every year. why trade the core? the leafs were with 1 billion in 2010, 2.4 now. why change anything. leafs fans will always be suckers.

I do think it is fair to say that JT going down in the Montreal series sunk their chances to advance that year, and the core should have had one more chance. The year after is when it should have been blown up with Matthews (yes Matthews - sell high) being shown the door for players who can play a more physical game and make space for Marner and Tavares to do their thing. Instead this year, we have management rolling it back once again with 2 more of the core four entering contract years to show how much they can light it up in the regular season to get those extensions. Upper management doesn't care because the sheep that cheer for this team will still support it and still make a lot of money off of it.
It was Samsonov. If woll was playing, he probably would have stole that series for the leafs. (Only to get smacked by the cats in round 2 again. Point being, there would be the same angst among Toronto sports fans.)
