I think forensic science in all it's forms is a powerful instrument of truth and justice. You can't wind the clock back and undo a terrible murder but if you can unequivocally identify the perpetrator/s and bring them to justice, then at least that is something. I think it's good that there is no statute of limitation on murder.

I used to drive by a billboard sign along the freeway with Denise's photo, and a "Missing. Please contact CMPD" banner. It was close to where her car was found. Such a tragic case. Shortly after her body was found I remember hearing it on the news. Bless her soul, and the hearts of all who loved her.

I totally agree! But the way society is now parents would say it isn't appropriate, God forbid kids learn something real and true that hasn't been altered to fit the unicorns and rainbows they want them to learn. IE... new grade school books say when white men came to America and met the Native Americans they got along so well that the Native Americans GAVE THIER LAND to them so they had place to live and WILLINGLY MOVED to be kind!! Crock of sh*t! Like I said I'm all for it... the younger generations need to learn reality of life and not altered history, know how to physically work, earn a living and not have thier hand out. They need to know the words win, and loose. 1st and last. Not everyone wins.. and these careers teach that the hard way.

Since Reagan, public education has been corrupted by the greed of private corporate interests that has lobbied against public education in the effort of having it all privatized. The actual classrooms have been depleted of funds, teachers have been vilified and blamed for the failure of having to teach with no funds, Low salaries, and an American public that think they have no responsibility over how they raise their children and expect teachers to solve all family problems. I'd say one significant problem is the teachers union. All they care about (not all, sorry, there are some GREAT teachers out there) is salary increases, they're not doctors or lawyers, wanna make six figures, do something else. The point is sometimes innocent people wind up on death row. WE had a case here in Oregon recently. Guy spent 30 years in prison for a murder he did not commit and was forced to make a false confession. HE was to be executed, but Governor Kitzhaber ended the death penalty in Oregon by placing a moritorium on it. Every governor in office since then has done the same thing. All death row inmates were placed automatically into life sentences without parole. Now this particular person was freed recently by DNA proof, he is not the killer. HE is now suing the State of Oregon. I knew, as did my mother and her cousin who was a lawyer--the guy was innocent. It was an inside job to cover up corruption. The real person who committed the crime is still free. This is why we have appeals process. We have actually executed more than `100 innocent people here in the United States during the last 50 years. Perhaps you had not heard about that statistic. Very sad, find the real killers after the falsely convicted ones have been already executed. This is why I no longer believe in the death penalty. AT least with life in prison, you can correct a mistake and let some out.
@JustMyOpinion1010
@JustMyOpinion1010 5 месяцев назад
@michellereed5638 100 executions compared to the number of murders is not even a drop in the bucket. Yes, very occasionally you'll get it wrong, such as the example you mentioned. Re the drivers licenses he had, that could also show just how many times he had posed as a police officer. He could have stopped women, asked for their licences and then kept it. Personally I think that he probably stopped women, asked for their ID then possibly sexually assaulted them and threatened them with their own license saying that he had their address and if they told anyone, he would know where to find them. In my early twenties, on a night out I had a guy show me a badge and use that power to expect sexual favours and threatening me with arrest. I asked to see the badge again, closer. I also asked that I be taken to the police station - I was terrified. I’ll always remember that when I asked him to show me his badge again (instead of just a quick flash), he said something like - why, why do you have to see it again no one else has ever asked to see the badge. “No one else” ??? They need to make police impersonation a firm felony and have something like a 5 year minimum sentence. They almost always get charged as a felony and plea it down to a misdemeanor and go do it again. There’s a guy in Florida that’s a notorious police impersonator (Jeremy Dewitt) and he’s only now probably getting some jail time after getting caught several times for it and probably in reaction to public outrage. There’s really no good reason someone would impersonate a cop so it’s frustrating how many repeat offenders never get in real trouble for doing it. I saw one of these true crime shows where they were looking for a police impersonator and the detective was shocked how many locally known police impersonators he had to interview. There’s probably thousands of them across the US carrying fake badges with real guns and cuffs.

re: The Russian man who murdered his second wife: I am glad they solved the case. It is not right for someone to be able to just murder someone and then think they can "conveniently skip back to their native country" and get away with crime. Likewise, we Americans need to realize we cannot go abroad visiting other countries, and break their laws either, and not expect to also spend time in their jails. I am thinking of the Amanda Knox or Fox case in Italy. I am also of Russian heritage, both my great-grandparents were from Russia, and so I am 1/4 Russian. I am also 1 percent Native American Indian. I have a different perspective on things. I truly believe that when leaving USA, my rights as a USA Citizen stop at the border. I am now at the mercy of whatever laws of the country I am now a guest. As an adolescent I visited both Canada and Mexico and never had one whit of trouble, and my fellow siblings all underage were with me, with my grandparents too. WE had a nice vacation in Canada. With my parents in Mexico, briefly, we had a nice time too. It is called respect. Clearly this Russian man did not respect his wife, or USA laws or customs. He can go back to Russia after he serves his sentence. AS for Amanda Knox or Fox, I do not know if she committed murder, however, she did offend the Italian culture, and using drugs and being drunk in public probably was not legal. Therefore she set herself up by her rude and improper behavior and breaking school rules. I was an ambassador to visiting Chinese students to community college, they were taking so many credit hours per term that they did not have time to "party, smoke dope, do other drugs," they were just very happy and humble to have access to higher education and technology which they badly needed to take back home to their villages to help their people. HOW refreshing it was to work with them. So unlike those USA students who feel it is their right to party.

If you cross into Mexico from the US for instance you are then subject to MEXICAN LAWS until you return to the US. Authorities don't usually care what country you're visiting from, as long as you're in THEIR jurisdiction you are required to follow THEIR laws citizen of their country or not. As it should be. As for Amanda, while I wouldn't say she deserved what happened to her in regards to her roomate's murder but I would agree with you that she did set herself up for trouble by her improper behavior. You can't go visit another country, act that way and not expect to get into trouble.

@@laurenmay2098yes it is very logical. Women would have their jobs listed and maybe started a business with a few girls working under one name in one house, which can now be legally advertised and taxed once that's all legal and they no longer need to stroll sleazily alone on the road like pieces of meat because they are now just in a house..killers wouldn't be able to just pick them of the road. Cops would be called if they are missing. So yes 40 women could have very possibly still be alive. I mean they would possibly NOT have been dead because of the killer of course.

@@pink_like_a_panther4119 I don’t, I think there’s a huge difference between violent crime and something like drug trafficking or commercial burglary. Unfortunately we kind of have to lock up the burglars but we could free a lot of people if we just legalized weed. Personally I think we should legalize everything like some countries in Europe, because there would be no profit in selling the drugs if they’re legalized. Sadly we literally need drug offenders to keep police budgets high and keep the private prisons making money, so even though 70%+ of people want weed legalization I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Mostly because cops and prisons will lose money, and cops would have to focus on real crimes like burglary and murder.

I decided to look into the ben kuzmachev case and actually found ..The state v. Kuzmachev details of the case itself.... I compare it to this episode of forensic detectives. And I found the episode itself to be very deceitful, It was not fair that the idea of the woman at the waremart could identify kuzmachev as a customer because she had seen many posters of him around town and remembered 4 months later that she had served him. The waremart company had deleted all of the transactions, so there was no evidence that she actually did see him or that he did buy the tape and bags used in the murder, anyway the tape and bags sold at waremart were not the type used in the murder. This should not have been included in the trial, but it still was, The man in question did not say he was going to Russia. if asked if he could go to russia, The jail cell inmate said that he had accepted blame, but there was no evidence of it, and so they wanted to use the convict's mother to support testimony to hearing kuzmachev confession... But that's ridiculous, but it was allowed in court... These are just a few of the things that the actual transcripts show as opposed to the show itself. So it now is bringing into question for me personally the whole of the series, and when they show at the end, the couple fighting over a lamp that is just complete imagination, but it leaves a lasting impression on you. Thinking that that is how they did it., When in truth there is not a scrap of evidence to suggest that this was the case. Mr kuzmachev died of cancer in 2006 in prison... And still protested his innocence.

@West Bay 20$ a day? It costs around 300 dollars a day to incarcerate 1 person ... that'a just the prison cost . A police investigation with 2 officers and resources costs about 300,000 dollars if it's solved within one year. So 300,000 $+ 100,000 $ per year of incarceration for high profile cases . Run of the mill cases are about 100,000 $ + 100,000 a year for incarceration . Breaking laws is big business for government agencies . Stiffer laws means less cash flow . Softer laws mean more cash flow . It's simple business economics. Though shall not murder . But man has decided that law doesn't work for him now. As a matter of fact, if everyone abided by that book that had those other 9 laws, the prisons would only be at 10 percent capacity except for the trafficking drug laws ; drug laws concerning recreational use resulting in incarceration are unconstitutional in my book .
