Does a hot stamper original pressing have a chance? Mobile Fidelity have a hit on their hand with One Step releases, as does Analog Productions with their 45rpm all analog reissues. Congratulations on your channel!!! Great and special job indeed. Your channel as well as the 45rpm channel, gives us invaluable information about the new editions. I deeply appreciate your work and your effort. A single remark-request for your next videos. More classical music PLEASE...!!! I know very well that the fans of classical music are much less than the fans of rock, jazz etc. But we certainly need your information about new editions or reissues as well as the quality of these pressings. Michael and Danny, once again, another riveting discussion in which I was totally absorbed. I have never seen an ERC recording, much less heard one. They must be amazing to behold. I do own a copy of the Evans MoFi One-Step and find it be magnificent in every respect. Looking forward to the next of, hopefully, many segments from you both...

Excellent analysis - thanks! I can only comment on the BS&T ORG 45 vs the OneStep: both are great, but the OneStep seems to be the most natural presentation, with quieter vinyl.

Thanks Danny to take the topic "Hot Stamper" in this shootout. I never heard one but I read something on this. My experience with AP and Mofi goes in the same direction like yours - mofi more laidback / AP more punchy. The price calculation from AP is more than listener friendly. Please more comparison with Hot Stamper!

Hi, great video. I have both bill evans LPs as well. I found that ERC record was a bit quieter. Had to increase volume a bit when listening in comparison to MOFI record and maybe because of that mofi sounded a bit more dynamic. Great video and review! Keep them coming.

Great shootout keep those coming. There are not many out there that have access to these different pressings. And yes it would be a wet dream if Chad could make testpressings of different vinyl formulas cuts laquers and plants. Probably infeasible right now with the high workload but something I’d love to see in the future, although highly improbable 😅

On my channel did a needle drop between the MoFi one-step and the ERC Bill Evans. Portrait in Jazz. Actually it was for me the first time the ECR release wasn’t the best release.

@@terrywho22 Today a replaced in my line stage the GE 6463 tube for a Telefunken 6463 and that was quite a difference with a result that the staging with the ERC release is significant better in comparison with yesterday. But finally both releases are fantastic.

not really, there's great sounding SACDs and by itself SACD isn't analytical... it's just the carrier medium.

I came to prefer original pressings to one steps, etc... for reasons you describe well when talking about your hot stamper. The mantra in my head was "keep analog analog..."

I understand the definition of "Hot Stamper". However, how do you know it is indeed a "Hot Stamper"? Is there a marking on the sleeve that indicates this? Is there a number or designator in the Dead Wax? How does one tell if a pressing is a legitimate "Hot Stamper"?

Ha! Man, if it were that simple, Tom Port at Better Records would be out of business... Hot Stamper = buy 3-5 copies of your favorite record, shoot them out and there's your hot stamper. 🔥 that's what he does. Except he then charges you a literal arm and leg for them. Ridiculous racket.

All kidding aside, are you serious? Or are the first pressed records set aside cataloged as Hot Stampers for whatever future purpose (yeah I know)? Eye's needs to know! lol

It’s pretty much what it is. First pressed records are no more or less likely to be hot stampers, even though you would assume so - remember you are pressing vinyl, which is an imperfect, process for an imperfect medium. So yes, I can pretty much guarantee you that if you buy 5 records of the same kind, they will likely all sound different, sometimes surprisingly so. I have some hot stampers that you would think was a completely different record…

@@SonicFlare Thank you Danny. I was pretty sure that was the definition. To be honest, there is no perfect medium out there for audio. As you know each one has it's own pro's and cons. But ive been a vinyl junkie since I was a kid in the 70's. I mean 80's, Correction, the 90's. Yeah, that works. I know a bit about the pressing process, but not that detailed. Thank you for clarifying this for me, And thanks again for the video. Keep up the great work.

Love the Bill Evans tribute costume! I’ve never bought a “Hot Stamper”, but I believe in them from my own experience of owning multiple copies of the exact same pressing of a record, but one just sounds much better than the others. I’d also love to hear the difference between VRX900 and standard vinyl with the metal parts being the same. Btw, your technical difficulties make no difference to me. I just wait patiently for more cool and nerdy vinyl talk. lol. Thanks, Danny and Michael!

I've got to admit that I'm not really into MoFi these days...I have one more to pick up from them when it's back in stock, but I think Chad has earned my money from now on. I know that's maybe a little silly, but I've just felt like I've got more bang for the buck from AP. I was also happy to learn about the existence of hot stampers, interesting stuff! Love the conversations! Please keep them coming! The video issue will work itself out at some point, Danny...These videos are free, I can't believe people actually complain...

ha! the $100,000 question... the simple answer is, you can't really identify one on the fly just by looking at the record. What curators do that sell hot stampers is listen to 20-30-40 records of the same album to identify the one that sounds "hottest" ... it's the only way to do it really.

@@lifeofvinyl3003 seems so, and since there is no way to identify a very low number pressing at least a promo is (very likely) some of the first pressings to be distributed. I try to purchase them as possible but 70’s records even if an early pressing just had so much terrible vinyl ;(

What a great show👏👏👏 Thanks Michael und Danny! Hab mich selten so amüsiert, vom Inhalt hab ich nicht so viel mitbekommen. Immer wenn ich Danny sah hat mich ein Lachanfall gepackt. Im Bill Evans Outfit, wow, kann man dich so für Dinnerpartys mieten? Gezupfte Augenbrauen, geduschte Wimpern, eine Rassur wie aus einem Werbefilm von Braun und diese mörder Brillen... Darf ein Reviewer sooo sexy sein??? Diese Frage wird wie ein Sturm durch die Kommunity gehen, wir müssen RU-vid neu denken. Diese Gestik, diese Mimik, Hollywood wird erblassen. Wenn du so weiter machst wird sich Christoph Waltz warm anziehen müssen. Dann die Dramaturgie, Bildausfall, Hundegebell, Spielberg gehts jetzt auch noch an den Kragen. Hör mal, es gibt so viel negatives überall zu sehen und hören, da muss mann doch etwas gegenspielen ... wenn's dich dann so amüsiert, dann noch besser....... Mal sehen was ich als nächstes aufspielen werde. PS: du wirst noch mehr lachen, der Grund zu meinem LA Besuch in 95' war die Schauspielerei zu erobern....... hat leider nicht so geklappt, ausser ein paar kleinen Rollen hier und da, usw. aber wie sagt mann immer wieder..... was nicht ist, kann noch werden! hahahaaha Freut mich und es kommt noch viel mehr, Grüssle nach Tirol!!!

@@SonicFlare danke Danny für deine nette Antwort. Was gibt es Schöneres al einen Menschen zum Lachen zu bringen und damit glücklich zu machen. Für mich ist das wertvoller als die eine oder andere noch bessere Aufnahme von z.B. Miles Davis. Irgendwo muss es in deinem Leben sehr wohl geklappt haben, sonst hättest du wohl nicht solch eine traumhafte Anlage. Gleiches gilt auch für Michael. Freue mich schon jetzt auf deine/eure nächsten Beiträge. Danke für die schönen Momente, die wir so gemeinsam erleben dürfen, danke RU-vid, wir wären uns sonst wohl nie begegnet. @@SonicFlare Ahaha… just what I need, more variables. I only get "cool stampers" (not true) - I told you about the Memois of a Geisha you suggested. That's the nature of the medium… I don't think the best are necessarily the first. The stamper needs to "burn in" :) .

better-records.com/ this outfit "tests"/listens to a large # of records and the one they like the most, they call a "white hot stamper".. naturally they don't know why one sounds better than the other, but they will charge you accordingly.

Danny I'll confess another thing to you: I don't have "one steps"… but, let's says the Kind of Blue MOFI and other… I don't care about the box, I don't care about all that foam, I don't care about all that air they send me… I care about the record, a perfect pressing, a beautiful cover, very well made. Let's just say, if they all are like the Tone Poets, I'll be happy. Not to be too cynic, but all the boxes and foam it's to give the impression of value to something that's not really worth all the money they ask. But I could be wrong, who knowns all the mysteries of the art of marketing?

Well, the issue w/ MoFi was that they already have fabulous double 45 rpm records w/ nice covers, etc., so they had to go into overkill mode to create something more special given the extra price... I just wish they had spent some time investigating the quality of the paper stock / film to see how it will wear long term...

@@SonicFlare We're saying almost the same… the extra price, for me should go all to the pressing/sound quality. I just love the regular format of a record (the Tone poets gatefolds, perfect). And all the records together in shiny sleeves… The LP is already a perfect thing.
