Worked Retail. Gavin is completely right about being as concise as possible when calling up. It's not rude in the slightest. I hated when people would call up and add all sorts of extra fluff to a conversation. Get to the point so I can get off the phone and back to not working.
depends on where you're from and what type of person I believe. My friend works at pharmacy and I see it physically drain him being treated as a robot than a human. I have to help him after work to just remind him that he's a human. I think it matters how you talk to people.
I agree. Ask a question. Receive an answer. Conversation over. You aren't going to be best friends with the guy on the phone with the airline. It is better to get it done with an move on so they can help the next person. Its those fluff conversations that create lines at the store and having to be put on hold because a 2 minute question took 10 minutes.
I’m similar, different “area” of work as I work recovery, but I want “question” followed by “answer” nothing else. People even “fluff” their answers when your at the side of the road where 40tn trucks are going up to 60mph within 1.5-2ft if you, insane.
I would honestly have to beg to differ. I work in a diesel shop so maybe its not quite the same, but I like when i can talk to someone. And not gonna lie I get paid by the hour, so the more time they kill the better
@@basedsalvy Burnie jumped ship because he saw it sinking, or at least that's my guess. I mean everyone's been seeing it slowly, painfully sink for years now. Burnie is smart and got out early.
I swear that Chris is that guy who you don’t believe exists. Like he starts by saying I almost left on the wrong plane then starts the story by saying he almost left his phone at home while he is in his Uber and it just gets crazier by there
That luggage fiasco...that's not his fault; that's more the fault of the airport. They should have clearly demarcated zones for each gate, if you're boarding your flight on the tarmac.
@@benrobo1134 To be fair to Chris, half the time his stories are rambling only because someone else around him keeps interrupting him with questions. Namely, "what the hell do you mean?"
@@WhatKindOfNameNow same with Gavin, there's lots of times where he's in the middle of explaining what he meant when he gets yelled over with "WHAT DO YOU MEAN"
Chris and Brandon tell stories of things that I fear happening to me at some point before the more rational part of me goes "but that could never possibly happen," but it does actually happen to them
I still don't know why no one wanted to agree with Gavin on "broadcasting from the future" at 7:00. I understand both sides, but I think it would have been so fun to intercept the live feed of the pre-tape with their present selves. Enjoyable little prank! Shame no one wanted to do that haha
They understood what he wanted but it was him phrasing it as a "message from the future" instead of pranking the live present audience became jokable so the idea didn't go through
I still think one of the best moments was when they were I think on on the spot with at least her and miles (I dont remember who else) and she chugged something really crazy and I swear you could tell by the look on miles face that he could tell it was impressive as hell lol
Ah man I would've loved if you'd included the follow up on the Chris story. I think it was last week's podcast where he was talking about a message he got from someone who was working at that airport, because they saw the security footage from Chris walking between the planes. It might've been a small bit but after Barb mentioned that they'd be talking about it
For the wheels vs doors argument most people are missing office chairs, which have 10 wheels per chair. In an office building even if each employee has their own office they have many more wheels than doors, and most office buildings have cubicle and desk arrangements leading to almost no doors and potentially thousands of wheels
Yeah but then you need to take into account basically every single house/apartment across the entire planet with all of the doors that come with it with very minimal wheels.
The pure frustration of agreeing with Gavin about something, but he is explaining his point so poorly and in such a weird way, that it makes you disagree with him
28:30 Them talking about the security cameras, in San Antonio, Texas there’s a camera where if you TURN on a red light it’ll take your picture and ticket you for running a red light. So getting those tickets and having to dispute it sucks
The camera argument is insane to me, seatbelts must be useless as they're good in a car but you wouldn't want to wear them when sat in a desk chair and it must be all or nothing
"It's either always good, or always bad". The more I watch these compilations, it occurs to me Gavin is a genius who cannot properly express what he means, and Burnie is the village idiot but knows how to speak clearly. So just to break it down. Drinking water, is good. But if you drink too much, you get water toxemia, or water poisoning. Stuff isn't black or white. It can be every color of the rainbow.
I think Burnie's mentality is that he is thinking of the worst scenario, of over-reach and such, where as Gavin is thinking of the best scenario. As such, it is more on their perspective of what humans and machines can do, as Burnie is saying data can always be skewed but Gavin says if it is conclusive, it is conclusive.
@@alexcrossac456 Burnie's whole argument is that automated security surveillance is ubiquitously bad and doesn't help people because he doesn't like knowing he's being watched in public and there can be technical issues. That's such a blindingly stupid take to have and vehemently try and argue to defend, especially when he admits to having his own automated security surveillance, he's literally arguing that a security camera on his outer property is good but a camera on a street is bad.
@@KaleidosXXI Burnie would then say that, well he is controlling the camera so he gets to know what is on it, not someone else. I agree, Burnie's take is not good xD But I get where he is coming from in a sense, I just think Gavin in this case is right, Burnie just doesn't see it as anything other than black and white :P
Complete agree with Gavin about him being concise. Worked retail for 10 years and i would get so annoyed when people would give me their life story before getting to the actual point. Like its a simple question that would take 10 seconds to ask and get an answer but now im here for like 10 plus minutes listening to what you did before talking to me. Its not rude at all to just ask the question and leave. I would go so far as to say most people working retail would prefer that to all the fluff conversation before hand.
Honestly working customer service I agree with both Ellie and Gavin as long as you’re not just an ass I don’t care even Gavin’s tone implied he was grateful for the info lol
41:00 I get both sides of this, in retail I absolutely was data focused. Information in, information out. But when I'm not working I'm all for the fluff of conversation
As someone who has to answer a lot of phones at work I really like when people are like "what time are you open till? cool thanks!" im always like yay that was painless
The whole hijack a video and it's from the future actually makes sense. The idea is that the audience wouldn't know what's happening until the next episode comes out showing that they interrupted the feed than. That's the future aspect, that's the only part that applies
Completely agree with Gavin, make the conversation quick and precise. As someone who worked in a customer service type job, I don't want to hear the whole story of what happened, just get to the meat of the issue
I’m really amazed that they’ve never done a podcast/series/docuseries about Chris. Chris is genuinely one of the most interesting people to grace this planet
I forgot about that show. I remember Gus saying he wanted to a show where he’d live like Chris for a period of time and that’s what I’m imagining. I’m definitely going to rewatch A Spot of Science.
I totally understand where Burnie's coming from with the 'civil surveillance' thing One can definitely make a distinction between cameras in public, with the right to privacy debate that comes with it vs protection of one's private property
We have those automated speeding cameras here in Finland too, both van and static ones. The thing is, you're by law not obliged to rat out on your close relatives (i.e. father, brother, sister, mother, etc.) So, if they can not ID you through the windshield, you can say it was driven by a relative and you won't say who. They've apparently "spun" that to where the car driver is always responsible, but that failed because "You can not be accused for what is not proven." So, you flip the visor down, hide your face, state you didn't drive it, it was a relative, no ticket. :P
@@KodieJames13 she left probably around the same time period when burnie left cuz there were a lot of people who left a year or so ago Burnie, ashley, miles, ellie, max. So many of them left in a short period of time
I swear to god, Chris Demaris is what would happen if you put Joel into a molecular splitter. All the crazy came out one side and made a twitter account, and Chris came out the other. The way he tells story is almost identical to how Joel used to.
I can't believe Chris had worse luck with his flight than I did when I was unaccompanied at 14 years old going to Scotland from Canada. What a fuckin wild ass story.
32:19 i am 99% certain, leaving small room for a possible misstranslation as i don't fully see the words, that Barbaras shirt here says. "I like bad boys"
I'm with Gavin on the whole "too much fluff" thing when talking to people. The point of language is to communicate efficiently. The most efficient way to communicate is to get to the point
Don't think about wheels on office chairs and doors in skyscrapers. A very easy way to realize there are way way way more doors than any wheels-- Every single house on the planet 100% has more doors than wheels inside of said house. Places where cars aren't as accessible (cities/3rd world countries) are filled with houses with doors on them. Doors take the cake 100%. And if you try to argue about cars, think of all the planes in the world who have multiple doors on them but only the three sets of wheels.
