The viol, also known as viola da gamba, is a bowed string instrument that was popular during the Baroque period. It has a fretted neck and six or seven strings, and is played with a bow. The viol was often used in chamber music and as a basso continuo instrument, meaning that it played a supporting role in accompanying melodies played by other instruments.
One of the most outstanding viol masters in music history is Marin Marais, a French baroque composer and gamba player. Marais was a prominent member of the French court, alongside Jean-Baptiste Lully, and served as a musician for King Louis XIV. He is best known for his compositions for viol, which include a number of baroque sonatas and follies. His most famous work is his five-volume collection of viol music called "Pièces de viole."
This playlist includes several pieces de viole in the form of chaconne, a chord progression that serves as the basis for a series of variations. It also features a deep viol basso continuo - bass lines that provide the harmonic structure for the piece. The chaconne and the basso continuo are often used together. Beside viols, theorbos - long-necked lutes - baroque cello and other string period instruments were also less prominent as solo instruments at the time and mostly used as a continuo instruments in ensemble works. Nevertheless, we’ve included the rare Marais’ viola da gamba solo pieces in this playlist
The playlist is accompanied by the most enigmatic piece of early renaissance Netherlands art - Hieronymus Bosch’s garden triptych. The Garden of Earthly Delights is a unique whimsical hellscape with countless religious symbolism elements, such as Eden, the end of the world and the last judgment. The enthralling Bosch triptych is a mysterious piece of symbolism art that will take you to the surreal land of sinful pleasures.
The classical music playlist can serve as background music for studying and working or as relaxing music for pleasure. It can also be enjoyed as a standalone audiovisual experience.

Where is this place that you find public domain gamba recordings of this quality? Why does the public domain recordings not list the artists names? The only recordings I find that are in the public domain are antique recordings. These recordings are clearly not antique. Where do you find them, I am sincerely interested.

There are many websites, where you can find public domain records, among which imslp.org, archive.org, musopen.org and commons.wikimedia.org Those don't just include the old records with expired copyright - though some of those can be remastered too - but also those that are intentionaloly licensed in a way that allows royalty free redistribution. Some come with a CC BY-SA 3.0 and contain the information about the performer, some CC0 ones don't. Either way, thank you for expressing your concerns! We now realise how important it is to be more precise and transparent about our music sources. We'll look for the appropritate credits once again, perhaps we've missed them somehow. This was one of our first videos, after all. Once again, thanks for taking the time to comment, it's crucial to learn what kind of questions the viewers have about our content, so we can provide the answers. P.S. Some records are indeed incredible commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Marin_Marais_(1656-1728)_%E2%80%93_Sonnerie_de_Sainte-Genevi%C3%A8ve_du_Mont_de_Paris_The_Bells_of_St._Genevieve_from_La_Gamme_et_Autres_Morceaux_de_Symphonie_(1723).ogg

Who are the performers? You even credit the variety of video editor you use but you do not credit the performers???? Is this to deny the performers royalties?

the performers are not credited here because the pieces were found in the public domain, musicians unknown. Rest assured though, RU-vid automatically detects every piece of licensed / copyrighted music, even if it's just a few seconds. So if any creator uses that kind of music, the music owners automatically get 100% of the revenue and the video editors get nothing. The real issue is that the automatic music detection is often wrong, and pretty much anyone can claim the music as theirs without having to prove it. And since all the classical tunes have been performed many times before, this means that big corporations like Sony and Warner own countless tracks - that sound similar to other performances of the same pieces. And that any piece you perform can be claimed by them without proof, and they would be receiving all the revenue until you proove it's rightfully yours (which takes about a month). Also, the performers never get any royalties from these corporations. In conclusion, any channel you see using music that is not performed by them on youtube is either of these 1) a creator using public domain music (copyright free) pieces to showcase other type of work 2) a creator whose earnings all go the the owner of the music (automatically, even if it's two seconds of the tune they've used). Besides, using someone else's music not only means you will earn nothing, it also means your video can be blocked and your channel penalised. In conclusion, only those willing to profit solely the music owner and earn nothing but the threat of being bliocked themselves would and technically could "deny the performers royalties". RU-vid makes it impossible. Except, of course, for the the big corporations it has an agreement with. Now they are the onyl ones that can steal anything they do now own from any of us. Without proof too - in one click without consequences.
