I have pental oil pastels i recommend it but the problems are 1. It can break easily if you go to hard on the pastel 2. The paper in it is too skinny so it is easy for it to remove by itself

tyraoof was here , yes, I just got the package and tried them. They can break easily, it’s hard to blend and if you try to blend with a napkin or try with another kind of paper or cotton, you can remove what you have already painted.

That's my problem with my Pentel Oil Pastels!! It doesn't blend smoothly :(( and you can see the division of colors or where the colors meet when you blend them! I overlap the colors so that amybe it would bkend smoothly but it doesn't :(( plus the Pentel Oil Pastels is quite expensive in our country and it's only the 36 color set. I thought it would do justice to the much more cheaper oil pastels I first bought.

The best blending pastels are Sennelier but they are expensive. You can experiment using a bit of baby oil with your Pentels to dilute them on the page and blend them together...

@artandstuffbyj2542
@artandstuffbyj2542 4 года назад
Hello - new subscriber here. :) Is it true that you can blend these Pentel Arts oil pastels with just a damp brush? It says so in some websites that are selling these. You said on one of your videos that oil pastels will not dry ever so they will smudge easily. What about when you blend with a thinner - does it dissolve the oil away and so it would be less "smudgy"?
@SyndiaArt
@SyndiaArt 4 года назад
It will stay smudgy regardless but you can dilute them with the tiniest bit of baby oil or Gamsol (but Gamsol is toxic so be careful if you use it). Hope it helps :o)

The Cray-Pas Junior set is really good for the price (pentel is good as well but blends a little bit less well and dries out a tad faster). Both are comparable though. this might help ► ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_KVM9m3EVoE.html

Now I'm curious how good these pastels are compared to Mungyo students'. They are twice cheaper, if I just knew about it I would buy them instead of Mungyo which I bought to try oil pastels for the very first time and see if I like this kind of material at all (I've already got my Gallery set). The fact they are (twice?) smaller is a good thing because once you'll try Mungyo students' you'll immediately want to upgrade and you will not know what to do with the huge almost untouched sticks of the pastel you don't want to use.
@SyndiaArt
@SyndiaArt 3 года назад
I don't like the Mungyo student set. These are good "for the price" but the Junior set by Cray-Pas is a bit better.

@@SyndiaArt I got the mungyo soft pastels a while back before considering oil pastels, I love them but just so messy. I ended up getting these Pentel oil pastels and I do love them but I see the blending issue you mention in this video. I just didn't want to spend a lot before I knew if I wld enjoy them. (I noticed the mungyo SOFT pastels were quite different in price point compared to the mungyo OIL pastels.) I must say THO, I LOVE THE OIL PASTELS!!!! I'll practice on these fir a while but I do plan to get the mungyo oil pastels down the road. I've only gotten dived into art the past 2 yrs or so (had some stuff I've been dealing with and I needed an outlet and art has givin me that outlet and so, so much more ❣) but it can get expensive esp when you love on a budget. Err... suppose to be living on a budget lol. I wasn't sure where to start so I decided to get an adult coloring book and some crayola color pencils. And it was great ... for a while. I loved the coloring books esp by Jade Summers so I do that daily. But I ended up wanting to try EVERYTHING. I've upgraded my color pencils to prismas and my markers to Ohuhu alcohol markers and dived into everything else from fineliners and sketchbooks to pastels and acrylics. The ine I haven't tried yet is water coloring. But it's on my Amazon list lol. Sry, I kinda just went on a tangent lol. Didn't mean to give a biography lol. Anyways, I just want to say Thank You to you, and all the art RU-vidrs who make it possible for us beginners to learn from you all!
@SyndiaArt
@SyndiaArt 5 лет назад
It's so cool that you got into art. It's the best outlet for emotional turmoil... and also as a way to meditate (I'm making a video about that right now). As for pastels, I just want to be sure I recommend you the right thing. When you are talking about the Mungyo SOFT pastel I'm assuming you're talking about the traditional powdery/chalky pastels, and not OIL pastels. Those (the chalky ones) I'm not very familiar with. My recommendation was for oil pastels but NOT the regular Mungyo set (which is not very good). I'm actually recommending the GALLERY oil pastel set which is the better range also made by the Mungyo company. So the Gallery Oil Pastels is my favorite set. But Pentel is also very very good for the price! If you want to experiment with blending try using baby Johnson oil with a stiff paint brush, it's going to liquefy your oil pastels and it's a fun way to use it. Art supplies get really expansive, I agree... As a starting point, I would recommend buying good paper, if you want to make sure your work holds up through time (a Mixed Media Sketchbook, acid-free, from the art store is perfect). As for the rest of the materials, you can totally experiment with whatever you find at the 1$ store. I feel like good paper is the main thing for me. Once you've discovered what you love you can start to invest more. You can make cool things with pretty much anything... here is the proof ► ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V6CBB5n7W4A.html Have a great week! :o)

@@SyndiaArt Yes I only mentioned the soft pastels (the chalky ones) bcuz of it being the first pastel I tried. But I did get the Pentel Oil pastels for my first try at the oil pastel to see if I wld like this medium. Well, I fell in love with thrm fast. It was love at first sight lol❣❣❣ And yes, I paid close attention to your video as to get the correct Myngyo Artist quality set (in the black box) And well, my "want monster" cldnt help herself and ordered the 48 pc set from Amazon. I just got them in the mail 2 days ago and am finally able to set aside some time give them a go, RIGHT NOW actually lol. I did do a swatch and comparison to the Pentel the day I got them and they are most definitely a huge step up from the Pentel! Don't get me wrong, for anyone starting out or wanting to test this medium to see how they like it the Pentel are a fabulous, price conscious set. But once you fall in love, it's time to upgrade lol. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the full set of 72 so there are colors I wish I had (esp the Grey Pink!) But the Pentel has a color called Old Rose which is gorgeous so I will intermix those few missing colors. So, with that being said, I am now on my way to do my first piece with the Mungyo pastels❣ And again, I just want to say Thank You for all of your help and your wonderful videos!! 😊😍❣

They do have one more drawback: they have an unpleasant (mineral oil?) smell :( I haven't heard about this problem before, most artists praise Pentel as a cheap but good for the price oil pastels, but recently I heard from two more Russians that their Pentel sets are smelly. I doubt they produce smelly sets for Russia only... :D

It"s true, you're 100% right. There was a scent when I first got the set but it dissipated overtime. Pentel isn't the best set to buy for an artist but it's certainly the best for the price. But if you're willing to invest just a little more money for really great quality I recommend the Gallery set of 48 by Mungyo. They are my faves :) Have a great weekend!
