Skip to 4:03 if you just want to hear my conclusions on the paper tests.
I thought I'd test all the papers I own with Copics. (Results should be very similar with any other alcohol marker brand.) The sphere contains up to 4 layers of marker (colorless blender, then 3 shades of purple) and the gradient area uses minimal marker up to only 2 layers of color.
And just as a reminder, I can only test so many papers because art paper can get very expensive. There are lots of videos out there that review the Copic brand papers, so I stuck with what I had. I hope this helps some of you out there. If you have any more info on papers please feel free to share in the comments section.

*I just ordered a 'Crescent Rendr No Show Thru' sketchbook. I've seen a video of someone saturating the page over and over with a Copic marker and there is absolutely no bleed on the backside of the page, nor onto the next page underneath. That means that every page in the sketchbook is usable! It seems pretty good for blending too, no feathering, vibrant colour. The only downside in my opinion is the paper is a slight off white colour.* They sell them on Amazon or ebay. Quite easy to find :)

About 3 months ago, I ordered one too, and it's true! The paper doesn't bleed to the other side whatsoever (I got up to like 50 layers without any bleed!), but it only begins to feather when you start to add too many layers. I think that has to do with the paper being extremely bleedproof and the ink has nowhere else to go when there's too much. The paper is slightly grey-ish but I like it like that. Also, it blends like a d r e a m My only 2 downsides are 1) The sketchbook never stays flat (I got a hardcover since it was the cheapest option) and 2) When you're applying the marker, it starts to look wet-ish and dark (like applying marker to printer paper), but it dries to the normal colour like nothing happened.

Generally people say "bleeding" refers to it soaking through the paper onto what's underneath it and "feathering" would be what you described it as :) just an FYI, good video and thanks for the information! 😁👍

Aleksander L. I'm so glad I can help! I love doing research before making any significant purchase so these videos are a lot of fun to make.

It’s so hard to choose ..Because you want a smooth light paper that will not absorb your ink too much and will not wear out nib. But also want a thicker paper so it’s not blotchy and doesn’t bleed threw next paper. So need to find a in between paper..lol.. I actually like the cannon recycle XL Bristol. Smooth on one side and pretty thick but not Watercolor thick. Colours are very vibrant also.

Just found your video. Super helpful since I just picked up some Copics that I'll be using and this will be helpful. I do have the Bristol smooth paper (either Canson or Strathmore but I can't remember) and marker paper that I tested. I like bother but I do prefer the Bristol smooth paper so far, at least it's more thicker than the maker paper.

Very helpful. I got my niece Copics for Christmas, I want to get her a practice journal and some good quality paper as well.

Also depends on what side of the marker paper you use. Winsor & Newton I use the back of. Canson I use the top side. As it comes off the block.

Just learning on Copics. So glad I found this video. I was having trouble with the "bleeding" outside the lines as well! Hopefully the Bristol paper will help. Thanks!

My concern is not blending. But the paper absorbing too much ink. Making you have to refill sooner than normal. I haven't had that issue because I just recently got into copics, and I don't is that happening. Have you heard of that?

Nincompoop :P yep it’s horrible to use with copics. Bleeds through very easily and if you blend too much you will rip the paper.

The best paper for copics are probably Cardstock & Mixed Media.

I don't have a lot of art shops near me, so I don't have a big selection of paper. The only good paper I've found is watercolour (hot?/cold? press) I don't really know what to do
