The chairmen have precisely intuited the reasons why we do the PT frames the way we do. The slats sometimes force you to do things with the pedals you wouldn't prefer otherwise. Makes using dual lock much easier. It's clean looking and often lets the client use the board they already own. The PT stuff is still one of the most affordable ways to get into a board and hardcase. We cut and laminate 1/4" ply here at the shop. Also great note on the hazards of under-board mounted supplies! Linear supplies might work if you only have low gain effects above them (not overdrives). If you are running a loop switcher, would not recommend under-mounted linear supplies at all as the loop of cable will encircle the field and cause hum-related sadness at test time... Great episodes, guys! -barry.

Could one theoretically purchase just that laminate top for a PT-JR, or you only do them for custom builds?

I build my own custom boards, angled with loads of space underneath for power supplies and utility pedals. I don’t use slats, but plywood with holes drilled in the top and the center supports to run cables.

I have started to make my own from plywood also, very stable and plenty strong. Rather than having one huge large board with everything eveywhere all at once, I make smaller boards for a particular purpose. One side spot for a full-size vol or wah, then two rows of about four BOSS size pedals. I like the small Donner DP02 power supply, easy to hide under the top shelf riser.

Good show guys, Fender board here myself, Brian, I think that was me asking about how to route around those slits. Thanks again for the tip, worked out well.

My friend made his own pedalboard out of aluminium square tubing from Bunnings/Lowes/HomeDepot, kinda like a DIY Pedaltrain. I use Temple Audio but ditched the plates except for 1 pedal. Using Dual Lock. Also raised the side handles with spacers and longer screws. Some of the side module screw holes stripped, so I had to drill them out and use component sized screws and nuts. The holes on the base/floor are really good for screw-mounting power supplies and other random things like LED strips and cable anchors

Mark tremonti uses them, My temple audio board is great. Mounting power supply issue would be taken care of by getting the hi 5 mod. High grade power supplies one can power a line 6 hx stomp with power remaining for other pedals. As far as mounting the plate system could be changed out with dual lock or zip ties. One change I made was using a spacer too make the handles on the sides taller. I did this so pedals can be placed right up to the edge without interference from the patch cables/ power

Holeyboard! Zip Ties instead of velcro! My Temple Audio board is by far the most expensive board I have though. Modules, mounting hardware, custom cables, etc. It runs into money fast.

Great episode, I have a Fender board and they come with plastic hooks that go underneath the slots that are meant for under board cable management but they are hit and miss Residue is an issue but on the whole its a solid board.

I love the Dadarrio Xpand board for home use. I am constantly changing my home board, so it’s nice to be able to shrink or expand it with each new idea, without having to buy 2 or 3 different size boards to swap between.

I was using a 20”x16” folding table as my pedal board and have run out of room, so I bought the Xpnd 2 and have been playing around with layout. I had to order some extra patch cables (a few 12” just to have and a 36” to run to my volume pedal) so am just waiting one those to get here now. Not sure how I feel about the slats and being limited vertically compared to the other boards out there, and it’s definitely made it harder to keep cable routing clean. However I’m sure once I figure out a good layout for the pedals and cable runs I’ll definitely appreciate the the flexibility that being able to adjust the length provides.

I’ve built several boards for clients (Pedaltrain/Vertex), and personally use the Aclam boards. Their (Aclam) variants with spacing between the tracks are far more easy to cable manage than their unslotted one’s. Their clamps are around 1”x1”, so your point is valid, they do take up space. But as for holding pedals, not damaging them, I love’em. They also have variable height adjustments on their legs, so I’ve never had a problem with pedal supplies. In fact, for my builds with’em, I do a hybrid of clamps/velcro. All that to say, they’re my favorite non-velcro boards, but a traditional board will accommodate more pedals as you mentioned.

I use a temple audio board. Dual lock works great, and I love the modules. It's a great board for home, but no clue how it would last gigging. Space is tight under the board.

BPTA sells lift kits for Pedaltrain boards. You drill out the old rivets and install new ones for the taller feet.

I don’t use plates on Temple audio boards. I literally line the whole thing with 3M velcro. The plates are crap and expensive, I like the holes to be there because I can route my cables to go underneath the board. I built a giant rig using multiple templeboards without using the plates and it’s holding up well so far.

I am using custom sized Aclam Smart Track pedalboards. I like that they have many options to build more than just their 5 standard sizes, including elevated rows and 2nd level tier. I’ve developed a trick using silicone sheet material between adjacent pedals to mount a row of pedals close together, only using the fastener clamps on the bookends. However, this only works for pedals without side jacks. These boards are expensive, but very sturdy. I only perform locally, so I don’t know how my mounting “tricks” would handle full-time touring.

One need not drill out an entire rivet through the hole. Use a larger drill bit to remove just the rivet head and stop before drilling into the actual board. With the rivet head removed the rivet will come out the back without increasing the size of the hole. An angle grinder works great too if space allows. A nice sharp cold rolled chisel is a good option also if one knows how to use a mallet. Aluminum rivets are pretty malleable so the head will shear off without much effort.

I have nightmares of loose wires getting snagged during transportation (#OCD) so have considered a "slanted box style" pedalboard with a hinged top (that the pedals attach to). Does anybody have experience with that? Some Hands Custom boards on Reverb look clean..., but I have no real-world testimony of the pros/cons of this style of board. THANKS! 🙏❤

The rockboard is a nice board, but not as durable as the Mono. I used the Tres 3.1 for a lot of gigs and the rubber feet come off after a while. As well as the middle enforcement beam. The screws/ holes get weak pretty fast. The softbags that come with it are rubbish. No experience with the hard case tho. What is your experience on the Creation Pedalboards?
@philippgrunert8776
@philippgrunert8776 8 месяцев назад
The aclam can be used with Velcro as well, they even sell it that way. The interesting thing about them imho is the modular set up of the boards. Way more options than most if not all competitors. Even addressing the issues you describe for other products. Which is why it caught my interest in the first place. Would have been great if you had looked more detailed. Be a step ahead of those internet reports. It's your business. No offence. Just saying

I bought a Vertex Pedal Board about a year ago. It came in a box with NO packing materials, and it was bent from shipping. Sent it back. Using Temple Audio, much better.
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc 8 месяцев назад
They come in a double-walled box, with a poly bag and I think or a few thousand shipped, what you’ve written has maybe has happened 2-3 times. Sorry that happened. Any pedalboard, if it’s severely mishandled, would bend, as would Temple or any other brand and is not any indication of quality. I’m not sure how packaging relates to a better built pedalboard, only better packaging, or better care taken by the shipping company to not damage it in transit. In the future, if this happens, email us. We’d have sent you a brand new board, no questions asked.
@davidgriffith3938
@davidgriffith3938 8 месяцев назад
@@VertexEffectsInc Thank you for that reply. I think besides death and taxes, shipping companies throwing packages around is a sure thing. I would advise some styrofoam corners to prevent shipping damage. But the Vertex boards are thin, with very little sidewalls or bracing compared to many other brands. This can be an advantage because the pedals sit lower and are easier to tap, but it does make them more vulnerable to getting bent. I wouldn't want to put it in the back of a vehicle with heavy amps and speakers without a hardshell case.
