All PitBoss’s I have are pretty damn awesome! I love the company cause all I had to was call an tell them any issue with any of my smoker over the past 15 years and they sent the parts in the mail with instructions free of charge!! Very good customer services for! I love my crew slangin grills
Bought the Pitboss 1100 Pro a couple months ago. Love it! I did a comparison with the probes against an independent probe and the PB probe was spot on. The hopper is perfect sized with the side window. Only downfall is the hight of the barrel. If the barrel would be taller it would be perfect. I would definitely recommend.
I love my 8-year-old Smoke Hollow Model PS2415 - Pellet Smoker Grill I purchased from Sam's club because it has 480 sq inches of smoking space and it has a variable controller. It was $375 when purchased it and I have been using it at least 2 per month since.
I bought a Pit Boss Pro 820 from Lowes. It was $499.00. They had on sale at $449.00. They delivered it and it has a small scratch so I got $49.00 off. I love the smoke settings, the P Settings. I love this grill. The Best grill ever.
I just bought the same one this past Saturday. I cannot believe I didn’t buy one sooner. Cooked some chili lime leg quarters tonight that were some of the best chicken we’ve ever had. 30 mins per side at 350 degrees and it was oh so juicy. I looked at the Austin XL but that was bigger than what I wanted even though it was the same price. The pro series just seemed like more bang for the buck.
To me the clean out feature of the camp chef is a winner. The biggest issue with pellet smokers is keeping them clean. I find myself using my barrel smoker way more. Better smoke flavor and easier to use and clean.
It is not difficult....but it is much easier to pull a lever and drop out the old ashy pellets instead of scooping them out or vacuuming them out. Maybe I am lazy...just speaking from my experience with owning a pellet smoker and now owning a charcoal smoker.
balkire1182 the bottom of the barrel gets very filthy and I didn’t like cleaning it out every time. The ashes in the igniter should be cleaned out more frequently. If you leave the old ones in there it can cause problems when you start up the grill again....
Bought a Traeger Scout for $300 in Oct, 2018. It has been replaced twice and am waiting on a call from Traeger about this third grill. All three would not control the temperature. The best control was a +/- 75 degrees.
Just bought this Pellet Grill for $299. Landmann 1,318 sq. in. Pellet Grill and Smoker Average rating:4out of5stars, based on14reviews(14) Digital controls provide precise temperature settings from smoke to 500°F Large 14 lb. hopper with viewing window 1318 total square Inch grill cooking area; approximately 60 burgers Side shelf with removable serving tray Two chrome-plated jerky racks
We picked up 2 Pit Boss 820Ds at Lowes during an inventory clearance for $225 each, floor models, fully assembled (one went home with the brother). Also have a Camp Chef Woodwind we paid full price for. I prefer the Pit Boss even though the Camp Chef has the easy cleanout because the Pit Boss cranks out a lot more smoke and climbs temperature faster. When I've used the Camp Chef I've had to add a smoke tube to get the same level of smokiness. Don't get me wrong, both are great. I've made breakfast casseroles, pizzas and pineapple upside down cakes in both and it's all fantastic. They're amazing and you can cook almost anything in them.
Walmart has their series of pit boss called the Austin series, their Austin xl is 1000 for $497 digital 2 probes. Basically the same as the pro without the front shelf. I personally preferred the extra cooking space over the front shelf.
@@stovegrillpartsforless4637 well I wouldn't compare it to the 1100 even though they are closer us size the price is closer to the smaller pro, In fact 3 dollars cheaper. My casters lock on the Austin and I have 31 pound hopper I didn't look into the btus to my understanding 200 btu per square inch of cooking space is plenty.
I currently have the Camp Chef and I love it. I did ironically look at the other two as well when shopping but amazon had a tremendous deal last year on the camp chef's so I had to snag it. Not sure if you've checked out Grilla Grills but that might end up being the brand I eventually upgrade to.
Run as fast as you can away from the Camp Chef. My wife purchased one for me for this past Christmas. I was so excited. I assembled the thing and started to do my first breakin burn. I followed the directions to the letter, and it literally took me like 20 tries and several hours of messing with it, including several times I had to pull out the greats and vacuum out the overflow of pellets, before I could get it to start heating up. Finally was able to do the initial 30 minute breakin burn, which only took me about four hours to get done. Then comes the day I'm going to smoke my first piece of meat in it, a pork butt. Let me start by saying, I've owned other smokers, and still own other smokers. I've been smoking meat for at least 25 years, so I'm no newbie. So I set the thing to start heating up, which counts down about five minutes, I go out to put the meat on, and the smoker is ice cold. WTF!!! So again I try and again I try, and several attempts to get it going, and finally about an hour late I'm able to start smoking the pork. Awesome, we're off and running. Except an hour later when I go out to check everything, the smoker is ice cold, and flashing the words "FLAME OUT." Okay, start it up again, and after another hour, same thing. So long story short, I never ended up getting that pork butt done in that smoker. Had to move it over to another smoker I own. So ROUND 2: I figured there had to be something I did wrong, so I re-read the directions, watched several not really all that helpful videos, and I was ready to give it another try. Same thing all over again. Took me like an hour of messing with it to get it to finally light. Get it up to temp, put the meat on, walk out an hour later, and it's ice cold again. WTF!!! AGAIN!!! So I initiate the startup again, close the lid, walk inside my house, and I heard BOOOM!!!! Like a bomb had gone off in my back yard. I whip around to look out my windows just in time to see the lid falling back down closed. The exploded with such force it actually opened the lid all the way. So again, I'm at this very moment smoking this pork butt in my other smoker. I called Camp Chef's customer service number, am on hold for 39 minutes before someone answers. I tell her the problem, and tell her I want to return it for a refund. She puts me on hold for several minutes, comes back and tells me in order to return it, I would have to box it up, otherwise they won't accept the return. I tell her I no longer have the box it came in, and she tells me that's my problem, that they won't take it back unless I box it up. They also won't send a technician out to my home to try and sort out the problem, even though it's under warranty. So be warned, their customer service absolutely sucks, their warranty basically consists of YOU working on the thing yourself, and they really couldn't give a shit about the people whose $500 they eagerly take. I'm literally out $500 for this giant paper weight.
Sounds like you have a defective temperature controller. Plenty of people have contacted Camp Chef support with a problem like this and they have sent them another controller to install. This usually fixes the problem most of the time! The Boom was caused by the build up of gas from the pellets on initial start up. Its a good idea to leave the lid open for the first couple of minutes after the pellets have ignited allowing the gas to escape. There are videos on youtube about this. This doesn't only happen on this brand of smoker! I would try talking to a supervisor and see if they will send you another controller!
@@jamesk8131 Yes, whatever it was, the seller, QVC, replaced the entire unit for me. Camp Chef wouldn't do anything for me. Basically told me it's my problem. My wife had purchased it from QVC and they were really awesome about it. Sent me out an entire new unit, didn't even require that I return the original one, and the new one works perfectly. I had to original one fixed, so now I have two of them on my patio. I've since smoked a few racks of ribs and three briskets.
@@pumpkinheadghoul Thats great to hear QVC took care of you! I've had my Camp Chef SmokePro DLX for about 6 months now and I really like it! No problems at all with it! Smoke on my friend!!
i just order the TRaegar Mesa 22 from Costco, seems like it is the same thing as the Eastwood but it has the WiFire capability. i'm ordering a set of grill grates and i have seen guys take the heat shield off of the Traeger to get direct fire onto their cook as well, but for my purposes i think this little guy will be perfect for me.
I have a Pit Boss 700 for 8 months have put 4-500# of pellets thru it no mechanical problems only self inflicted ones (forgot to vacuum fire pot out after a long smoke no ignition on startup) I use it on a wood deck and feel safe because of the great heat shield won't allow any grease into the firepot chamber. The Okie Joes Rider DLX I havent used much but have allready had a no start vacuumed pellets out restarted with no problem. I DON'T like the design of having the grease drip into the firepot chamber it will shorten the life of the grill and is a way bigger fire hazard. Like the size of it and time will tell how well it does in the long run. Good Smokin' Everyone!!
Spend $100 more and you can get a Camp Chef PG24MZG SmokePro Slide Smoker with a Fold Down Front Shelf Wood Pellet Grill from Amazon. This grill has a sliding door at the bottom of the pellet hopper and the ash cup that has a sliding door for easy ash removal. It also has the slide and grill feature, which lets you slide the head deflector away from the burner, which makes grilling really easy. It has the same controller as the unit in the video and 2 meat probes. It's very easy to clean, and does a nice job with both smoking and grilling.
A note on the Pit Boss 260PSP2 Tabletop (when you get to it) Caution, the folding stand does not LOCK. Of you hit a rock while moving the grill it can pop the stand out of its up position and the grill crashes down. I have no idea why the call it "tabletop" Its too tall to put on a table.
used an older traeger and loved it... if you can get your hands on a used one manufactured before they went with cheaper steel, grab it. i have a 3 yr old camp chef now & it is as great as anything comparably priced. LOVE the easy clean out & stable temperature
I've been a proud member of the Traeger Nation for nearly 4 years. I own a Tailgater 20 inch grill. After 4 years of cooking it still runs great. Yes, it would be nice to have had the front shelf as a standard feature, but the shelf for the Traeger only cost $45. Traeger also seems to be one of the very few pellet brands that makes Pecan pellets, which is my go-to wood flavor. However, I'll put ANY of these three grills up against that grease fire factory that Weber calls a pellet grill any time.
Got the Camp Chef model that’s exclusive to Dick’s Sporting Goods for $549. Didn’t have WiFi so just invested the savings into a fireboard V2 which has been great. Been pretty steady with temps with no issues.
The Camp Chef has the chimney on the back so you can add side accessories such as the sear box. I see it now has a PID controller, not sure if the price went up in reflection but would be nice to know how the grill still stacks up against the other 2 brands with some newer tech.
Was thinking about the Traeger (because it's a bit smaller and I don't need a huge amount of cooking surface) and grabbing the upgraded controller from the site. Home Depot must have increased their prices because they're showing regular price of $599 and an on sale price (at the time of writing this) if $499. I might as well Just grab a Pro 22, roughly the same footprint as the Eastwood, already has the upgraded controller and a few other features as well.
Yea but the Austin xl doesn’t have all of the features of the PRO I got my pro series 1100 for 450 brand new because I got it from a liquidation place but it still came with the warranty I’ve used it multiple times and it is without a doubt the most bang for your buck for pellet grills.
I was a little bit confused when I saw the slots and not a hole for the exhaust. As far as location, that is part of Camp Chef modular design including the sear box or sidekick?
Any experience with the Cuisinart woodcreek 4-1 pellet grill. At walmart on rollback for $497. Looks like a hell of a grill with a charcoal, ceramic briquette and a cast iron flat top attachment.
The Pit Boss grills do not include 275 and 325 degree temperature settings and I have not figured out why. It would seem a lot of recipes call for those temperatures. Any ideas on that? Great video by the way, I am new to pellet grills and in the market for one.
I like the Traeger that they have on QVC today for $549($50 credit if you open a QVC card} Comes with 2 probes and 40lbs of pelets and Cover and free shipping.Myself I have a Pretty New Webber Grill and a Charboil 3in1 smoker also a Blackstone Pizza grill....But would love to get one but afraid it will not get used much. One more thing I heard that the Traeger is Light weight and thin steel so it will not last as long as the others...……..
The pitboss Austin XL has a larger cooking area then the pro series 820 and it's the same exact price... it's not the largest grill you can get for that price
So i have a2 quick questions. I live just outside of Chicago, can I use the these in the winter without any problems with the electronics? Also do any of these come with warranties? Thank you!
@@stovegrillpartsforless4637 im looking to buy one wich grill would you recommend that's similar to the pit boss with out really worrying about getting burnt
Does that Pitboss have a hotspot in the middle due to the opening for the searing ability? If so would say smoking ribs be an issue with a hotspot right in the middle of the grill?
Thank you for this very informative video. I'm in the market for my very first smoker and this has given me a lot of information. However I'm leaning towards the gravity smoker by Masterbuilt. Is that one a good choice? I want to buy a smoker that will allow me to smoke a 20-25 lb turkey for Thanksgiving. What would you recommend?
@@stovegrillpartsforless4637 thanks, however my kids ended up getting me the Oklahoma Joe's Bronco for father's day and a week later my work gave me the Oklahoma Joe's Rider DLX. Can you believe that! Now I have 2 smokers! I have only used the Bronco so far and I like it very much!
Pit Boss 820 Pro Series without question. Bought mine over Memorial Day Weekend 2019 and have smoked over 30 racks of ribs, grilled countless burgers and wings, reverse seared 20+ steaks by opening up the center sear grate, smoked some turkey legs, a Thanksgiving turkey, 4x pizzas, 2x pecan pies, several ears of corn, and finally about to do my first brisket next weekend. You get more bang for your buck and I promise you this will be one of the best purchases you'll ever make. Also, if you're active duty or a military vet (or have a buddy who is), Lowe's gives you a 10% discount.
I got my bit poss 820 in March for less than $400. I'm in love with it. It is 100 times better than many of my friends treager. The sear plate make it so much better. When cooking a steak, the sear is by far the most important part. A bad sear means an over cooked steak.
I just bought the 820 pro series this past Saturday, and it’s amazing. I can’t speak for traeger because I’ve never had one but I can tell you my pit boss is my first pellet grill, I’ve cooked a Boston butt for 10 hours, grilled some steaks on it, and had leg quarters tonight, everything has turned out perfect and so much better tasting than gas or charcoal. Get one, you’ll be glad you did.
The treager and pitboss have to be taken all apart everttime to clean ash box before cooking. Pain bought campchef love it ,pull ash drop knob start grillin
@@Nick41x I did it turned out they had a electric problem so think before you speak and I wasn't the only one with that same problem according to the store where I bought it they had a few others come back for that same problem
OK Now tell us what ones you would not recommend. Now really that Walmart one looks kinda cheesy all put together with aluminum rivets and warranty and customer service is a huge concern for me.
Because your only getting 340sq vs 1100 and 1200 with pittboss and Oklahoma joe rider dlx But of you don't need a big grill, rectec would be one of the two options one should go...other one atleast is USA made rectec and probably every other one mentioned is China
Limited on area, I was thinking of storing one of these grills inside my garage and rolling it out on the driveway when I need to grill. Maybe keeping it just inside the garage with the door open (obviously) if the weather is bad. I think the Pit Boss is out because it's size...which one you recommend? Seems like probably Traeger since you dinged the Camp Chef on a few areas...the clean out port at the bottom seems convenient.
@@sm753 No but im going to buy one when i move in to our house! They look like the best out there. dont pay the premium for retailers to carry them so its straight from their site, the build quality looks to be way beyond competitors. Watch the video grilla chimp vs. traeger tailgater they have on their channel
No , you’ll have to move up in grills to get that feature. I have a Green Mountain Daniel Boone Prime , I got the rotisserie and Pizza (900 deg + ) oven attachments .
