Scooter your booter! Girls and I love them ALMOST as much as we love the plane! 100% worth it and makes those days of exploring so much easier! I do NOT miss the days of trying to track down the loaner car or get a hold of the ONE Uber guy in the small towns we fly to. We either load up our bikes, or the scooters. And the girls will pick the scooters over the bikes any day. They’ve really transformed our experience of adventuring.
I hear you poppins.. Especially big bear the uber/lyft is very hit and miss. I got stuck waiting over 1 hour and finally the airport came and got me :).. My son has a similar scooter and its a blast when you get out of the plane full of surfboards and gear and head to the beach :) Keep on posting the videos
You notice any issues with rocks or small stones as you would with a normal scooter? Looks like an awesome option but cruising at 20 mph and hit that one rock...ouch. Maybe the suspension helps with that.
You sir are winning at life!!! I really enjoy your videos and I'm starting my flying lessons in a little over a week so I always appreciate when you show the math calculations on the screen showing flight calculations.
As a fellow KWHP pilot who has a second home in L35... this was a great vid on the wonders of flying to and BB. Thank you and I, like you, I need my wife fling too!
I feel just enough for emergency situations bringing the plane home. Let her just enjoy the no stress of being the pilot and just enjoying the family being together. My wife just got onboard with our Cherokee 235 (which took three years) and we are having such a blast flying together. I'm so BLESSED.
Yeah that's all I think we need to do- just enough to get it down safely. The Emergency level button can go a long way to buy some time...and then just a few skills
My wife was terrified of flying when I first bought a plane. Finally got her to go up on a trip from TNP to Lake Havasu. We both survived and made it home a few hours later. Several months later I was out of town for several weeks on business and when I got home found out that she had been taking the Co-Pilots course! Just takes time, my friend! Happy flying.
Yeeeesssss. Absolutely 💯 %. I love watch you and your family flying. This is the life I wish have . But I can't fulfil my life dreaming ... so then I'm look you and imagine how beautiful life you have . God bless you and your family.
@@SoCalFlyingMonkey - Even if she doesn't take "official" lessons from a CFI, you could just teach her some really basic elements of flying, like how to work the radios, how to talk on the radios, how to navigate.
Me: "These are on sale right now, and it would be a great way to travel at uncontrolled airports!" Wife: "We're on a money crunch. I was just downsized due to COVID. You DON'T NEED an electric Scooter!" Me: "You're probably right. So..... What did you spend on this Online Sephora order that I just grabbed from the mailbox?" Wife: "Just go buy your damn scooter!"
Bought two of the TWOW GT 2020's based on your recommendation. Great scooter!! So far we've only tested them around the neighborhood but can't wait to take them along on our next flight. The battery life is incredible on these things.
As a student pilot working on my PPL your visual explanation of the 'Rule of Sixths' is probably the cleanest thing I've seen/learned in my study process. That was wonderful and I truly appreciate that your work made a critical safety factor something ...simple. Thank you.
Just discovered your channel! Here in Canada, as an advanced licensed drone pilot, I basically had to a do a very condensed equiv of ground school and now I'm obsessed with flight! I know how much work video processing is, as an "amateur", and I gotta say you make it look so effortless. Keep the content coming!
I have some Behind the Scenes videos posted on Patreon and am continuing to do more of that kind of informational thing that doesnt fit in the story driven channel vibe. patreon.com/SoCalFlyingMonkey
Poppins should definitely take a pinch hitter course. It's just the safe thing to do. In the event of a medical emergency, she needs to know how to work the radios, how to know how to talk on the radio, some basic navigation skills, the basics of what levers do what and how to read the ASI.
Your channel is aswesome. Love your beautiful aircraft, your fun trips with the familie and the humour in it. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers from EDRY, Germany.
I took the pinch hitter course and did a few landings with an instructor. Tell your wife she can do it! Doesn't have to be perfect, just in the ground safe.
I absolutely love your plane and what you’ve done with it. Great continent too, probably one of the top aviation channels on RU-vid. Keep up the good work.
Great work at wearing helmets on those scooters! I'm in Minneapolis, MN & I see countless young people(typically boys😳) trying stupid moves on them & falling. Also they never wear helmets. Great parenting! I hope the girls have an interest in flying. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for the comment. Helmets are mandatory for two-wheeled transportation. :) Goomba wants to get her pilot license and I am REALLY looking forward to that process with her when she is just a little older.
Poppins SoCal, go ahead! My wife is an awesome glider pilot, flying already many more years than I do! Give it a try - it's fun and you definitely can do it! :o) ... safe landings. Greetings from Germany, be safe!
Dude I love your video! I ordered 2 etwow gt scooters yesterday and stumbled across this video. Gonna use these for our vacation this year since we won’t have our 2021 airstream on time. This should allow us a good time. Have a good one!
Found your channel through Jason Miller and subscribed. I’m a 172 owner out of KWHP and will be looking out for you. Not every day you meet a celebrity, 😉 I purchased a Lectric XP to take along for transportation but found it to be too large, awkward, and heavy for my needs. I'm now looking at a 30lb bike that quickly disassembles with its own carrying case that would fit in the back seat. It just has a dorky euro style to it, and it's quite pricey.
Yes Poppins should definitely do some flight training, it will be useful for you to have another pair of hands that can fly straight and level while you do things like operating the avionics and she could do a safety pilot course to get her to the level of being able to land in an emergency if you become unwell for example. Scooters look great, in the UK we've just passed legislation so you can now hire an e-scooter from say the local authority of a town or city but it's illegal to own and ride your own one on the public highway - really daft law as it's holding the UK back from having a greener and less costly transport network especially during Covid where people are scared to travel on public transport or use cabs.
I didn't know that about the laws in the UK- that's interesting. They are a nice, green way to get around and I enjoy running errands in my neighborhood on the scooter. Makes some tasks more fun!
The whole time, I'm thinking sarcastically, "Yeah, you have a six seater aircraft with a useful load significantly more than my 172, what's an extra 100lbs (for two scooters)" But, at 50lbs for two scooters this looks like it might actually work! Thanks, now I don't have to worry about if a courtesy car will be available when I get on the ground!
They really are very light for what they do. The first scooter we got with the same range was 36 pounds- it's cool they have managed to become lighter. This scooter really has some power...the acceleration is FUN!
Yes! Pinch hitter class. There was a pilot (Leaving Las Vegas for LA?) who had a bird strike glass/ bird hit him in the face the blood running into his eyes made it nearly impossible to see; a copilot would have been very beneficial as his glasses were knocked off and the windscreen was now missing.
Lol I just flew into Whiteman from PDX to pick up my mom. Crazy trip! I had my vacuum system fail, transponder fail, and comm failure right before entering the LAX mode C veil. Ooof getting stuck circling above the mountains just north of Whiteman and Burbank suuuuuucks
that sounds terrible! Sounds like you were in VMC which is really good. I had an avionics switch go bad and knock out all my avionics when I landed for fuel in Santa Paula on my way back from Santa Maria. Couldnt get back without a transponder...luckily the shop there was able to replace the switch just before sunset...(the airport closes at dark!)...so I know that feeling. Did you transponder and comms come back online?
@@SoCalFlyingMonkey nope! I had to get a waiver to fly back to Portland and got it fixed at home. Fortunately my A&P was super cool and had an extra one laying around that he gave to me. I got lucky!
I say sneak in the Flying lessons; start with the ol' "follow me on the controls" and totally let her do the steering, and boom! You've totally snuck in some confidence! Do it! Wishing you Happy landings :-)
Great video, you have the magic ability to make and share a fleshed out story line in your videos. It really shows who are pros on RU-vid (of which you are one). And thanks for showing that some of our uncontrolled airports have non-standard or otherwise preferred patterns. As a pilot out of SZP, I always look to see if an airport I'm going to has some local guidance, and I appreciate others who take the time to try and research that as well. By the way, have you seen that garden and river-side trail that someone is making in the SW corner of SZP? I don't know who is doing it but I think its a great addition! Happy Flying!
When I first flew to KSZP I looked up the airport on their website and it has a crazy non-standard traffic pattern. I always wonder how many pilots do this at uncontrolled airports. Looking at the A/FD (Chart Supplement) is one thing that I think some pilots dont even do...I mean reading the whole entry. And even there a lot of these local procedures are not described. I think it is actually a real issue because you have half the pilots knowing the local procedure and the other half doing a handful of others things like crossing midfield overhead and teardropping into the downwind. I always do a quick google search for the airport website and see if there is a section for Pilots. It would be nice if there were an FAA standardized resource that would be part of a pilot's routine briefing to get this info. I was just at KSZP at Ray's having a pitot static check done and killing some time exploring the airport on my scooter and saw the hammock and beginnings of a trail over there. Very cool. It's a great airport with a lot of airplane activity and a good vibe.
YUP!! She's gotta fly! That Cherokee is looking AWESOME. Hey, are there modern tips available for the Cherokee 6? Or is there nothing with the outer tanks?? THANKS!
it Was a great pirep on the scooters, thanks for that, because i have been looking at some already, mainly one called the bird, which looked really good and now i will be checking this one out, thanks again and a great video.
Glad the video is helpful for you. This scooter has more power and range than most yet it is super light comparative to similar scooters in the same speed and range class. It also has a Samsung battery. We have been enjoying it!
SoCal Flying Monkey haha I love the scooter idea. I was looking at a Biria Electric Bike for my 180 Cherokee but the baggage door was a little to small. This will be perfect and won’t kill me on my rear baggage weight
Don't show her the Piper/Garmin autoland videos. But, she should take at least a pinch hitter course. Maybe take the family to Oshkosh or Sun N Fun next year!
Went to L35 a few weeks ago and had no way to get around. So I hiked 90 minutes to see the lake and back. Still worth it. (Yea maybe i should be getting that scooter)
Please go to Coronado or Downtown San diego for a scenic flight. I hope to move down there very soon and begin my pilot journey as a student in the area.
Learning in San Diego will great for you. Lots of great places to fly to and you get some decent little weather challenges with the marine layer. Mountains to the east for mountain flying.
Great Video..have chatted on Piper Forum; about Seattle visit (where we live). We spend 3-4 mo in Oceanside and Bjg Bear is a great " Go.To " from OKB or CRQ. OKB is only couple miles from beaches and pier. The scooters would work great there and is another good "get a way". There is a good restaurantt at French Valley; F70 also another good place to visit. Happy Flying!
@@SoCalFlyingMonkey I wasn't even at max gross weight and I was grabbing flaps real quick as those trees/mtns come up quick. What mount are you using on your wing tip? I've got a mount for my tail, but i've had some issues as I loose the connectivity to turn the video on and off. Have you had any issues?
The 6 is so easy to slow down and drop. Being too high on approach is never a problem compared to other planes I have flown. I used to have to slip in the PA28 occasionally but losing energy with the PA32 is so easy. I guess that's bth a good and bad thing. Haha
@@SoCalFlyingMonkey I have flown pa28R and PA34. Piper makes awesome airplanes. 6 has pretty similar fuselage to Seneca. Does hot air in 6 comes from heat exchanger of exhaust system or from fuel heater behind rear bulkhead?
Fantastic and very informational video. I have been using a Dahon folding bike (which is pretty much all that can fit in the Mooney) to get around but will definitely be checking out the scooter.
Folding bikes are great! We sometimes take off all the wheels and pedals of FOUR bikes and put them in the plane but folding bikes would be so much easier.
Oh I absolutely feel Poppins should get some dual flight training from a nice easy going instructor. Maybe even outside of the LA hustle and bustle. Would hurt for your daughters either. However, a good fear of snakes is normal and helpful. I sure am afraid of them, still have nightmares about them and I am 57.
She actually did end up doing some flight training! There are 2 videos on our channel following her journey doing a pinch hitter course with Jason Miller of the Finer Points. It was transformative for her.
I think that poppins should take at least take a companion course. Navigation, radios and basics of flight would help her enjoy more of what it is all about. Having something she is responsible for in flight would make it easier for her to get thru lite chop.
