This video is Part 5 of a 5 part series on the Best Places to Live or Retire in Costa Rica.
In this video, we will visit the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. We'll talk about the best places to live on the Pacific side of Costa Rica.

createdforsucce...
We'll talk about the towns of Uvita, Quepos, Esterillos, Jaco Beach, and Playa Hermosa.
If you want to live on the Beach...the best place in our opinion is anywhere near Esterillos.
Esterillos Costa Rica is divided up into three parts.
Esterillos Oeste, Esterillos Centro, and Esterillos Este and we lived and felt like Esterillos Este was our most favorite. All of Esterillos is kinda a secret. It seems as though nobody knows about this place and it is a quiet, peaceful and beautiful beach.
While Jaco Beach is widely known and I think because Jaco Beach has had so much publicity or perhaps Jaco has been marketed so much...it has tons of tourists and much more.
The town of Uvita Costa Rica is really nice and known for the popular Whales Tail Park and surprisingly, it actually has a lot of whales. Whale watching is very popular in Uvita Costa Rica.
Quepos Costa Rica is known for the Manuel Antonio National Park. It's a beautiful park full of wildlife.
The Pacific side of Costa Rica has miles and miles of beautiful beaches and a lot of great surfing.

This is Robin and enjoyed chatting during your test of online yesterday. I didn't get your email address but would like to email you as I am looking to moving the CR as I won't jump through the hoops required to get back to Thailand where I have been living for 13 years. My email is wb0sfr@yahoo.com and after getting information from the CR Embassy in Singapore, myself and wife and daughter will get 90 days to find a house and transportation etc. Good work with your You Tube site and hope to meet you and your wife soon.

My dad had retired in PZ San Isidro nine years before he passed. My husband and I try to visit often and do plan to retire there also, somewhere near Quepos and Dominical. In fact we are headed there day after Thanksgiving for nine days and are staying in several places from Playa Hermosa to Dominical and Quepos. We will check out Esterillos. Thanks 😊

Love your channel. Been up and down the coast but avoided Jaco as we did not want to see another US-light beach. Our favorite beach was Playa Hermosa just north of Uvita. The beach is clean and shady with small cabana vendors under the canopy of palms. Coconut water was $1 freshly cut for you and Sloths were often found in the trees there most days. Being close to the mountains, the Toucans, parrots, and monkeys could be spotted there most days too. Of all the beaches we visited this little beach was our favorite and the jungle there with the mountains still give it a wild vibe.

Just found your channel today and subscribed. My husband keeps throwing around the “we need to move out of the country” idea. I’m beginning to think he’s serious. 🤷🏻‍♀️ He’s 62, I’m 59....we celebrated our 40th anniversary last month. Our four sons are all in their 30’s. We have joked (but were serious at the same time) that we could move far far away and none of them would even know it for weeks or months, if ever. I have so many questions and concerns. I’m going to go back to your first video and work my way up or at least randomly choose based on the video title of older videos. 😊 Thank you for your channel. **Weighing our options in South Carolina”

We took that leap keeping in mind that we could always go back. I suppose the greatest suggestions I can make are: don't buy right away, rent and try different areas before deciding; don't come financially broke, have some money set aside for settling in and the unexpected; leave your USA ideals behind, patience is truly a necessary virtue here. Costa Rica is beautiful, the weather is amazing, you can live in a nice area on a small budget and the people are wonderful.

Oh my gosh, you guys videos are amazing!!! I bought a ticket and came down knowing very little about the country etc. These are hands down so much better than other videos about Costa Rica. Full of good info and not a bunch of fluff. I’ll be heading into this area after leaving Heredia when the holiday weekend is over. I’d love to meet you guys if possible :) But if nothing else these videos have given me a lot of peace of mind. When I first got here I began feeling I made a terrible decision because I booked for 3 months and will be backpacking and just experiencing the culture. But from watching this video alone, I feel a lot more comfortable to head to the pacific coast (Jaco) and then just head south and by the time I get to bottom of Costa Rica I’ll know much more about the culture and where I’d want to go next in Costa Rica. Thank you so much for these great videos!!

I love this video and I love Jaco beach. My wife and I and our best friends have vacationed there 9 times over the years. Why we love Jaco because as you pointed out there lots of things to do and there`s lots of shopping and great restaurants up and down the main street. We love Jaco Walk too. We love hiking up Miro Mountain at the pacific end of the beach. It`s not too far from Manuel Antonio and Dominical . You can do day trips up and down the coast even visit Poas Volcano and Arenal Volcano . We love visiting Villa Calitas to have dinner and watch the sunset. True there isn`t much shade on Jaco Beach you can rent two chairs and an umbrally for about 10 dollars. Yes there are prostitutes but if you tell them to their face no sexo they leave you alone. We loved to go to the hotel El Cocal they have a great beach terrace with lots of shade to watch the sunset. Yes there`s prostitutes there but they mostly hang out at the swimming pool bar called Frogs and don`t come to the terrace on the beach. Anyway we hope to go back to Jaco soon depending on the pandemic. Keep up the good work I love your videos.

@@YS-js5my I would start out by finding a place to stay short term on an AirBnB. After you get here...you can find some places at a much better price. I do know of one place that is small, but furnished and they are asking 100,000 colones a month, which is about $165 a month. That includes all utilities and internet. Hey Guys, Love to watch your Costa Rica videos and dreaming to immigrate in a warmer country. One tipp - if you will accept it :-) - for your video quality: The internal or even direct set-up camera-microphones are nice when you hold the camera very close right on you; like doing selfies. But without ambient noises in a quiet place. So please make sure to use an external microphone you clip on you. Bad optics is still acceptable. Lousy sound does not. Rock'n Roll and warm regards from cold Switzerland, Raymond

I don't know what the signal is around Lake Village, but the signal was always good for us anywhere around Esterillos. Lake Village is fairly close....I can't imagine it not being good, but I don't know personally. Considering it is so close to the Esterillos Town Center and how the Town Center had grown to such a huge place, I was guess it helped that area, but only a guess.

We so appreciate you subscribing and your encouraging words! We have done border runs at one of the two Nicaraguan border crossings and at 3 Panamanian border crossings. Nicaragua was a breeze but not convenient travel wise from the south and not much to see and do right across the border. There are two border crossings on the south pacific side...Paso Canoas and Rio Sereno near San Vito. The other crossing is on the Caribbean side and totally too far unless you are already on that side. We try to always use Rio Sereno because it is easier and less people. I would never recommend the Paso Canoas crossing...experienced and also have heard of terrible experiences. Lots of scam artist and the officers there seem to enjoy giving the gringos a hard time. This is a pretty good article from Lonely Planet www.lonelyplanet.com/a/nar/ca957a98-e229-49cc-8b76-f91dfd565e71/358221 Maybe we'll do a border crossing together.

Thanks for your kind words. YES, the Public Transportation in Costa Rica is GREAT! Very reliable and safe. The only thing is to be careful that you always have your eyes on your things. If you have a backpack...keep it between your legs. You can put it in the bin above you...but too easy for someone to steal it on the way out. But other than that....you can travel ALL OVER Costa Rica without ever owning a vehicle IF you enjoy using public transportation.

@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica 3 года назад
Most long-term visitors will be given a 90 day passport/visa stamp which can be stamped again for another 90 days by following Costa Rica's requirement of leaving the country. Unless you are able to obtain a work visa (which from what I understand) is not easy to come by, the only way I know of to not have to leave the country every 90 days is to being the process of getting residency. As of now with the covid guidelines, visitors to Costa Rica are only being given a stamp for the number of days covered by the insurance they are requiring for entry. We have purchased insurance for 90 days at a time. Hope this helps. Our forum at forum.cloudforestchapel.com has some resources that might also help.

For next week's topic, my question about rentals is; Is the furniture up to par in the furnished homes? And, are rentals obtained quickly? Meaning, in the US you have to fill out an application, the landlord meets people and at some point makes a decision, then there's a credit check, and employment verification, and so on. That process could take several weeks in the US, and might take several months in Costa Rica, since everyone is on tico-time. We thought we'd stay in a hotel while we looked for a rental, but we don't want to be in a hotel for months. Suggestions?
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica 3 года назад
Speaking from only my own experiences, we have never had to fill out an application or credit check, etc...just a deposit and sometimes last month's rent. Only once were we asked to sign a lease agreement. But we have never lived in a gated community or condo. We have mostly rented single family homes from individuals and have also taken several house-sitting gigs. You might check out airbnb.com for long term rentals...really easy to book and to cancel if necessary.

@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica 2 года назад
I have seen people fishing there with small to large boats. As for launching a small boat, that depends on your definition of small. If you or two or three guys can carry it sure...you can launch it. But no place to actually drive and back a boat in. The beach goes out very far and is very shallow for a long way...so while you could drive on some parts of the beach....no way to actually back a heavy boat into the water.

How much is a2 bedroom home rental in the mountains where you live.
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica 2 года назад
It all depends on if you get the Tico Price or the Gringo Price. I've almost always get at trusted Tico to get the price for me. I've rented as low as 60,000 colones a month for a 2 bedroom house. Those are fairly easy to find...if you have Tico connections, but those will be Tico houses. NOTHING FANCY for the Spoiled Gringo. But in my opinion...great to living in while you search for your own property or the right place to build...etc. On avg...I've paid between $200 to $300 a month......some two bedrooms, some 3 beds. I always pay in colones...so the $200 to $300 is just for you to better understand.

The prostitutes are trying to attract customers so they hang out where the tourist are plentiful...downtown/nightlife areas. Can't say I've seen them anywhere other than around hotel casinos and nightclubs. We don't mention prices because the range is so broad and varies so much from area to area. Something like a view or A/C and hot shower can demand higher prices. Not a mention of the great food and the friendly Costa Ricans. Also there are several beach front restaurants in Jaco including Hotel Cocal, El Hicaco and several others. I think you could have done Jaco a little more justice as well by not emphasizing the hookers and drugs. This is only a very small area of life in Jaco as it is anywhere else in the world. Jaco has a lot to offer and that is why it is so popular. It isn't just marketing but rather the preferred beach getaway for the locals from San Jose. So, Walmart is the gold-standard? And the talk of prostitutes? Do you understand how bad of a situation they are in? I really don't get it, and I find your vid to be abhorrent.
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica
Obviously, YOU do NOT know the purpose of my channel. I help other people who want to move to Costa Rica learn, The Good, The Bad and The UGly, of Costa Rica. As for the Prostitutes...it is NOTHING like the USA...they are NOT in a bad situation. They choose to be Prostitutes because it is legal in Costa Rica and there are NO PIMPS. Pimping is illegal. So...go Troll on some other channel.

You guys have really good content, thank you! However, the amount of mansplaining and talk-block over Rebecca is too much. Obviously you love and care about her, so please, show some respect for what she has to say by letting her say it without interruption or co-opting what she is saying by immediately repeating her. It is exasperating to listen to. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for your input. It actually has NOTHING to do with mansplaining and more to do with our experience working together. Rebecca often repeats what I say and I often repeat what she says...we're learning more as we do more and more videos...how to work together better. However, thanks for your input.

Semper fi my vegan brother! Do any of the VA benefits work down there?
@OffTheGridHomesteadCostaRica
Not that I know of...I've never needed any serious medical help. If I do, I'll fly into Miami Florida.
