How did the ceracote last long term? Time moves on and new products developer maybe it's time for a retest. I used me guiers hybrid ceramic polish on my bumpers with great results. Prrety sure it's not rated for it but does seem to do a fairly good job on my old toyota plastics looks almost new again and it's been a few months. Also did a nice deep shine on the paint for the little effort it takes to apply and buff up ( wipe us a better description) even made the dull windows rubbers look a lot better not new but did make me revisit this old post.

Looking at the differences in immediate effect vs durability makes me wonder if the best results might be achieved by starting with Mother's, adding CeraKote on top, and then maybe adding some sort of UV protective clear coat on top of that. Or even just doing two of those steps (whether that be just the products here, or just one of them and a clear coat). Would love to see that.

It's the useful information to blather ratio that sets PF apart. Half or more of youtube gets it the other way round: yadda yadda yadda blather blab blab info blab blab yadda blather yadda yadda. Whereas here we get 99% INFO! (most of the blather is from the words of the makers of these products). Sometimes it's good just for entertainment value.

Instead of the Cerakote headlight restoration, wet sand with 600 grit to remove the oxidized clear coat, then 1200 to reduce the scratches to a haze. Mask everywhere but the headlight. Solvent wipe to remove dust and spray with a two part (2K) clear coat in a can from Eastwood, USC Spraymax, etc. Three light coats ten minutes apart. Many of my car enthusiasts swear by 303… and i tried it and wasnt impressed… only to hear I should spray it on and leave it. It needs to soak in, do not wipe off. Been having amazing results with it since following their tips. Buffing on and wiping off gave poor results like this video. Try letting it soak in. Resist the urge to wipe.

Great video as always, I would just point out one thing for everyone who's planning to use Cerakote, Cerakote is great but guys remember one thing, make sure you are putting it on the plastic that's not painted, use it only on trims that are "pure plastic" so to speak, don't use it on the trim that might have clearcoat or something on it, like the shiny plastics under the hood most likely have some kind of clear coat, I made that mistake and messed entire engine bay up, I had to repaint everything. If you want to be safe use other stuff that Mr. Farm reviewed, they won't damage anything.

@eppyz

Don't be disappointed. 303 I have used for many years too. It is just a different type of product than many of the ones tested here. 303 is a preservative. Its meant to keep the rubber supple and pliable over the years. With continued use, the rubber will stay in very good shape. Whereas these other products are meant to restore plastics that are already beaten. So yes 303 won't really help rubber or plastics in poor condition. So if your looking for just the gloss and the new look for an old car 303 won't be your best choice. But if you have a new car or newer car, and apply 303 often, in 10 yrs your rubber will still look the same and still be pliable. I hope I am making sense? Just different type of products for different type of uses. Also, what I like about 303 is if it gets on the paint or glass by accident, it comes off very easily. Many of these other products used especially the ceramic products are a PITA to get off paint and glass.

I've found you have to go over multiple times with 303 - sometimes as many as 4 passes to get a lasting black matte finish. It seems to soak into the plastic that first swipe. However it still protects even after 1 pass which is its main purpose at the end of the day - its just not the best trim restorer for longevity

@Nosfermarki
@Nosfermarki 2 года назад
I watched this mostly because I did similar tests trying to find something that lasts and I was blown away by cerakote. I've seen some people say it turned their trim white/splotchy but I don't know if it was a reaction with the type of trim or if it wasn't applied correctly (if the trim was hot for example). For that reason I'd recommend testing in a hidden area before doing the whole car. I've used it on my Civic, an Elantra, and a GMC Acadia with excellent results. I actually just reapplied it on my Civic because it began to fade, but it did so just as evenly as when it faded originally. Plus it took almost exactly two YEARS to fade. I only use one wipe for my entire car so it's expensive per wipe, but not at a rate of 5 wipes a decade. I was worried about effectiveness after the remaining wipes sat in my garage for literal years, but the one I used worked just as well as when I bought it. Follow the instructions carefully and you'll be very happy with the results.

303 is more of a protecting product. I’d use it to add uv protection after using another product that restores the plastic. It’s really amazing stuff for that purpose. Also it’s a more versatile product. I’ve used it to “restore” my video game consoles and it makes them look brand new. All types of plastic, rubber and vinyl works great with 303. After seeing how it held up to the purple power degreaser I wouldnt worry much. Itll be on a while. Personally I like 303, even tho it didnt do so well here on the black trim. No glossy finish and works wonders on all plastics. I just wash and detail often.

I have the same concern regarding reapplication. I foresee alot of flaking and uneven surfaces that may require sanding to prepare the surface. I'll stick to 303.
