I agree. All things being equal the dual wins hands down.

Well the dual-hose wins over the single-hose, yes. But the window-mounted beats both dual and single hoses.

Appreciate the video a ton! Currently using a $400 single-hose unit in my bedroom... :( Have been using it for a good 7 years now. When it finally decides to quit, I will definitely be getting dual-hose. Thanks a lot! 😊

You should do a video on what is the best dual hose ac for small medium and large rooms. And which ones provide the best FAE
@sndrft4
@sndrft4 2 месяца назад
Thanks for all the videos on this stuff. You should do a video where you sum up all the stuff in your home and why it's there (ERV, old HRV, dehumidifier, fans, etc.), your thoughts on what you would have done different, and future projects to make it better. Doesn't need to be in great detail as you have all the other videos.

That’s a great idea. I’ll definitely do that within the next couple months.

I've had a single hose unit for 3 years that stopped cooling the room last week. I remember watching a vid from Technology Connections when i first got that unit that said that dual hose is better and more efficient, so i got a dual hose this time. I got the same portable AC model you have a few days ago. Mines came with a black filter to sit in between that see through filter you displayed. They also put in the manual that you could use a 3M filter in there (sold separately). It's a really nice unit.

Glad you converted to dual hose. And yes, I love that AC! Mine has that black filter too - it's also very thin and does next to nothing. I'm wary of that optional 3M antimicrobial filter because it's treated with a chemical coating. That's why I just manually attach a regular 3M filtrete to the intake vent.

Thanks for the informative videos, as always. Just a heads up--Bring your DIY fresh air system (I"'m starting to make two--TY!!) to Washington. Snow water equivalent is way below average in the State, with thousands of acres of dead fir trees per the USFS. Many weather and climate folks note a high chance of forest fire smoke starting in July.

Ah, thank you so much for this information! That's super helpful. Also, given that humidity doesn't get particularly high and temperatures stay fairly moderate, I think my DIY fresh air system could actually be perfect for Washington.

I've been using single hose in my RV lately. My old and janky RV rooftop A/C's have recently started having issues working correctly under the sun and in the heat (back) and the other one broke down (front) & way to expensive to replace. So I found a way to inexpensively replace air conditioning inside here. But the single hose portables suck and underpowered (found this out the hard way) and why they don't work properly like a dual hose. I found out (the hard way) about what your explaining in this video. So I recently bought a dual hose (the Midea Duo) I hope it cools my inside down better than my weak single hose ones. Its twice as powerful than my single hose units combined. And I bought a heavy duty Window AC that I'm putting in my bedroom window (emergency pop out window of the RV). I'm needing to do a a simple hack modification but its being put in. I like your advice about the filters. thanks for sharing I think that way too along the lines of sucking in mold & dust that help with eliminating or reducing sucking it in both the dust & whatever else polluting inside both the unit and the room. Great video Thanks for sharing. I wish you success for your channel. I'll be watching your videos here on your channel.

Window mounted AC units on the 1st floor and say eye level from the outside are nothing but signs to thieves. Most AC units are not attached all that strongly. NOBODY is drilling through vinyl window frames and using the holes in the AC unit's accordian rails. Most of us half ass the installation and probably have linoleum replacing the pleated accordian plastic and duct tape it to hold it in. Which is fine for a 2nd story window. That's not how you are supposed to do it. That's how a lot of people do it. As you get older (Me), a window AC unit is a pain in the behind putting it away or grabbing it for the season. I kept the things in the basement. I'm aged out from that. I was using a Harbor Freight moving dolly to roll it around the floor to the cellar steps. In the North East it's not hot every day. I'd go for portable AC unit with dual hoses that uses and inverter. The window is mostly closed and doesn't advertise the home is fairly easy to break into. Also, if you go away for a couple of days, the part in the window is easy to take out. I ended up putting a mini-split AC/Heat pump with 2 wall units in 2 rooms. Keeps the first floor more than cool enough. The Heat Pump probably saved me 300 gallons in fuel last winter. Of course my electrical consumption rose negating some of the fuel savings. But if the oil burner in the basement goes south I can still muddle through with the heat pump. The Heat pump by itself isn't enough to keep the whole place comfortable 365/24/7. The oil heat kicked in maybe 20-30% of the time. Would be less if I turned the temp down to low 60s. I don't like low 60s.

I really enjoy and learn alot from your videos. Have you experimented with Algae air purifiers which scrub out the co2 and other particulates?

Does it help to insulate the vent going out to keep more heat out of the room?
@HealthyHomeGuide

Yup, that would definitely help. Kind of a pain though and might not be worth the effort.

Hi. Thanks for the video. I bought a single hose AC last year with knowledge I have I would buy window or 2 hose AC unit. But I live in apartments build from concrete so here situation with places and reasons it of mold growth are slightly different. Had you investigate which paints are the safest? Not only during painting but in a long run. I saw that most popular are acrylic and styrene-acrylic pairs but I have suspicion that when particles of it get into the body they could be pretty harmful (especially styrene ones).

You're welcome! I have not yet investigated various paints for safety but I will someday. Thanks for the idea.

Good Morning, I was wondering i you could give me some suggestions about the house i rent in Chico CA. As i am sure you have heard about the park fire that was starting in this area. The home i rent is small about 950 sq ft. It has no central heating and cooling. It is 100 year old house. Structural the house strong but the insulation is very poor we have recent brought a dual hose portable AC and have window mount AC as well. Since the house is not insultant well all the cooling and heating list lost. We have learned to live with those two things but my biggest concerns are the indoor air quality specially during the fires and the heavy amount of dust build up. I have been researching which air purify to can you give me any suggestions. Thank you, I appreciate your humble honest personality which is hard to find these days.

Thanks for your supportive comment! I have a couple videos on air purifiers, so do check those out if you need recommendations. One is called "Most HEPA air purifiers are a scam" and that's a good comprehensive one to start with.

Do ductless split air conditioners create negative air pressure? And does the furnace filter filtrete tip also work on split acs?
@HealthyHomeGuide
@HealthyHomeGuide Месяц назад
Ductless splits ACs shouldn't create negative pressure. That's a great question about attaching a furnace filter to them - I'm actually moving into a place with a mini-split in a month, so I'll hopefully test it then. Short answer, I'm not sure yet.

Dehumidifiers do not cool a space at all. They actually heat it up a little bit with their fan and compressor motors.
@HealthyHomeGuide
@HealthyHomeGuide 2 месяца назад
Correct. I didn’t say dehumidifiers cool a space. I said they can supplement an AC for moisture removal. To be perfectly clear, I was saying that dry mode on ACs cools a space.

Would you recommend Dreo fans to use in DIY Air Purifier, instead of AC Infinity Cloudlift S12?

Great question. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to detach the Dreo fans from their stands, so I don't think it's feasible.

@HealthyHomeGuide Could I get your advice? I have a damp house. I get about 1 gallon of water in 24 hrs with my dehumidifier, but it also raises the room temperature by 10 degrees. That's a problem in the summer. With the dehumidifier NOT running, my hydrometer showed 72% humidity in a 72 degree air conditioned room. Should I also run the window AC at the same time? This is in the bedroom. Thanks!
@HealthyHomeGuide
@HealthyHomeGuide Месяц назад
To clarify, does your house have cooling in addition to the window AC? Also, 1 gallon of water in 24 hours is a fairly small amount. You may benefit from a higher capacity machine like a Santa Fe compact70, which can remove up to 10 gallons per day.

@@HealthyHomeGuide Window units only, in office and bedroom, about 12 hrs a day, with a curtain in both doorways to keep the cool air in each room. Small 728 sq ft house. The dehumidifier is in the bedroom. That's where the dampness is a problem.
@HealthyHomeGuide
@HealthyHomeGuide Месяц назад
Okay, so yes, it'd definitely be a good idea to run the window AC and the dehumidifier at the same time. In general, window AC units can be run 24/7. Doing so would be a good idea during humid periods.
