In this video I'm unboxing the Lenovo Thinkvision M14 portable monitor. I pick this up because this is one of the brightest portable monitor (300 nits) with very good color accuracy. I'm also showing you how I use this monitor connected through my gtx 1070 nvidia card's display port using a PCIe usb type c alternate mode out that is expensive and very difficult to track down which I've linked below. This is a very versatile portable monitor which is demonstrated in the video above.

I don't have that but quick look on the techspec shows that it has TB 3 should it should work.

hi great review. How abt the M14T touch version? can power up via an android phone itself without any external power source?

I think it should be fine. Checking the tech spec, the m14t peaks at 9.5w (typical 8w) the m14 is 7.5w. I don't think that 2w will affect much.

I just bought one online, but I’ve been reading that it does not connect to the MacBook Pro. At least on the lates Mac OS, I guess I’ll have to figure out if the thunderbolt 3 is not delivering enough power. Good video!

Hi, I just had a quick look online. I don't think there is a usb-c port for your SP6? I am using the SP7 with a usb c port so there is no problem for me.

Isn't it possible to connect it to your PC via USB-C? Why do you need a PCIe card?

I connected this to my Samsung Android phone and it works perfectly. The only issue is that the usb-c power delivery does not seem to work. Is there are minimum requirement on what usb-c charger to use?

I don't know tbh. If you check my subsequent video, others have reported that a power supply of at least 60w is required when using this with their Nintendo switch so I would say that would be your starting point?

I need help!! I got the ThinkVision M14T and it doesn't working with my desktop PC. Do i need to buy the PCI and add into my PC? (I do not have any USB-C slots) or can I get an adapter with USB-C to DisplayPort? Does anyone know?

Nice. Ok 1. Is it HD? 2. Does it have its own volume? 3. Does the screen seem like it will easily scratch? Does it come with a carrying case?

1.yes. 2. No. It doesn't have any speakers. 3. After a year, it's still as new. Regarding your second qs, refer to 0:57.

Unfortunately I am not on iPhone eco system so can't help. However I would imagine if it supports usbc display out, it should work similar to android?

@@Imspir3 no it has a lightning port. No usb c 😔. Its ok thanks. But if you ever come across a friend who uses iPhone then please try to check the compatibility and make a video.

Hi, it's very very picky in terms of the cable. So far, it works with another anker tb3 cable.

Can the M14 work by just plugging USB-C with phone only (no other power supply, phone battery is the source)?

Yes. Bear in mind this will drain the phone battery faster.

Hi, I'm interested to get this but I have a few questions. I'm planning to do a portable dual screen setup with my laptop that has a thunderbolt port. I wanna power the monitor through a powerbank without enabling passover. I'm hoping I can power it with a type c to type a powerbank without passover. Also I cannot identify what kind of cable you are using since the powerbank is in the pouch. Your answers would be greatly appreciated. 😀

Hi, the monitor can be powered without the powerbank. It takes so little power that it can be powered when connected through my p30 pro. I was just using a normal type c to type c cable for the connection between the monitor and powerbank.

@@Imspir3 is it possible to power it with a usb c to a (to powerbank). I'm concerned that powering this off my laptop would hurt the battery life since I travel a fair bit.

As soon as you plug the cable through the thunderbolt port, it will deliver both signal and power. That's the design protocol, don't think you can block the power. I've just connected a type a to type c powerbank, it does power up the monitor. But as soon as I connect the other type c cable for signal, my phone is instantly supplying the power instead of the powerbank.

For what it's worth, my laptop uses 10-15 watts when I'm working. The display adds another 5 watts, so perhaps 30% of your battery life.

Can you use the portable monitor in portrait mode?

Hi, yes. It just like any monitor connected to the device. You can change the orientation. However, the stand really is built for landscape mode and with the usb-c cable hanging out from the top on portrait mode, you will need to come up with a creative way to support it.

Where does sound play through? The monitor or your phone?

There is no speaker in the monitor. The sound is from the device that provides input, i.e mobile phone / tablet.

I connected my phone to the monitor (I have the same) but the games doesn't open in the monitor and other games just same size that my phone, I have a Samsung Note 9 and pop me up a message said use Samsung Dex original and consume really fast the battery of my phone , any advice?

@@sonicallyretarded9647 Some one commented in another video of mine that the Benq hdmi to usbc adapter works but will needs seperate high power supply. I can't verify it though as I have returned the adapter.

Hi, this manitor doesn't have a battery. You can even power it using your mobile phone if it supports it.

Can't understand what he says but seems like he tries to hook it up from hdmi to usb c from the dock and it works

Big mistake I did when I bought it. I suggest all who want full advantage of monitor to not buy this one. It will not work on pc or iphone or ipad like asus zenscreen do.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you have a relatively recent device that has usbc alt out, I don't see why you can't utilise this as there are many benefits such as simple one cable connect. good color accuracy etc.

Hi, not in my case. Check out my followed up video to see how I've even gotten a few bi directional cables and yet it wouldn't work. I recommended another solution in the video though.

Newer RTX cards have USB-C output. It works with "VirtualLink"
