Jim must love his job. He gets to use all the latest tools and technology to excite all us HVAC techs. Problem is any hvac tool you buy today is probably obsolete in 3 years. Solution...keep charging an arm and a leg for repairs so you can update your tool assortment every few years. Hopefully you can unload all your older obsolete tools on Ebay to up and coming techs.
I'd like to know what you are using to get that information over to your nice Ipad display...that looks handy to me. I like the graphing capability to show the interested customer.
Time is money, money is time. When you can work effectively and efficiently without downtime, you gotta trust your equipment and those equipment did its job amazingly!! No mess, no fumbling.

I think I would rather have a cord and use something like a Dewalt power station to power it when there isnt an outlet nearby. while I can appreciate a good cordless tool Im sick of having 4 or 5 different battery platforms. Using a battery platform I already have is much more attractive plus a power station should be able to power a larger 10cfm unit like this. Im not up to date on all the newest cordless vacuums but the ones I have seen are smaller cfm units. You can use up to 4 flexvolt batteries and should be able to power it for even the most demanding evacuations..
Just got the pump today, eyeballing those Accu Tools hoses. It would be interesting to see how much faster I could evacuate the thousands of feet of refrigerant piping in a commercial VRV system with that set up.
I'm just curious about the size of the hoses that you tied into the Schrader valve core. Are you limited by the opening size of the Schrader valve? Does having big hoses help through the bottleneck of the Schrader valve opening?
The hoses are vacuum rated, more of the issue, large diameter aids in viscous flow, and are not contaminated (impregnated) by refrigerant and mineral oil. This is more-important but the valve opening with core removed is not a restriction with "turns".
I'm about to buy a set of Fieldpiece gauges and I do not know why I should spend the extra cash on the 460 if I still need a vaccine pump that has the gauges built in. Can anybody help? Does Fieldpiece have support?? I would appreciate any suggestions....
I love this pump...best purchase of the year...good video for usage...I might give this fieldpiece commissioning /accessories app a more in depth look after watching.
Getting kinda pissed about buying anymore fieldpiece tools,on my 3rd set of gauges this season already and they don't fixed them under warranty,also many other of my fieldpiece tools are failing in a short amount of time,not happy with them...
Just bought one of these VP85 pumps. The manifold is pretty anemic under the plastic, I wonder if there is any tests proving it to be 8 cfm, cause I kinda doubt it with the manifold. It's also held together with 2 O rings and vacuum grease, not a flare. Just curious if fieldpiece could do a video of the pump showing the 8 CFM
Doubt they will. This is why I went with a JB platinum. The dc motor is cool but other than that the easy oil change and manifold for larger hoses is a gimic for techs. The JB allows for larger connections without all of the footprint and bs in my opinion. Have a good season!
Never found a place that I could use hoses that short. Where he is at is best case scenario. Great Idea but I'll stay with 6' Appion hoses and the Fieldpiece a longer hose will not make 5 minutes difference. Non condensables will be what makes the difference. Great idea Jim just make the hoses longer. People don't always have pristine yards.
The liquid line is 3/8 copper and most of the coil piping size is 3/8 you are not doing any better vacuuming by larger fancy hoses or using a jet engine powering your vacuum pump . Time is more impotent to boil off and remove moisture . quick vacuuming is not desirable method for professional work.
Adobo agree with what you're saying except a 3/8 vacuum hose is better it is quicker and as long as you hit your 500 microns or less that's the name of the game isn't it?
Hi bill, Service valves connections are 1/8 internal diameter with threaded internal surface that creates big pressure drop across that portion.Total internal volume of most residential system piping, coil and compressor cavity is less then 2 CUBIC FEET + moister expansion of couple grains of water can add at the most another 2 CUBIC FEET of vapor. i think you don't need large 8 CFM that theoretically can pull or displace the targeted volum in less then 1 minute , all you need good vacuum pump that can achieve 50 microns with smallest CFM that you can fined. Vacuuming time is more important to boil and remove moisture.
Never said anything about a 5 minute vacuum . I agree on a self contained unit , but on something with a long lineset the bigger hose is better . Thats why all the better four port gauges (manifolds) regular or digital have the bigger hose for vacuum .
Adobo, if you look carefully at the end of the video I am doing a decay test to check for the presence of moisture. There is no moisture (or very little, technically there is always some atmosphere left) that is causing the vapor pressure to build back up in the system. The BluVac gauge is running an algorithm to determine if the system will pass the decay test in this case at no less then 10 minutes. I likely had it set for 15. The gauge determined due to the rate of rise that it would not exceed the 500 micron max decay target. We were below 135 microns when it was valved off. That system was very dry and no additional time was needed to get it any dryer. The low permeability of the TruBlu hoses and the deep vacuum that can be achieved accelerates moisture removal. Lower pressures result in lower boiling points and faster moisture removal.
Still old school. I want vacuum pump to have a micron gauge buil in with wireless option. And wireless has to be not bluetooth with 15 ft range but wifi with 500ft. Beat that.
You left the vacuum pump running with the valve closed to the system to take a micron reading at the end of the video of course your going to get a good reading your effectively reading the micron level inside the hoses only with the pump pulling the readings even further down. You need to turn the vacuum pump off leave the valves open and see if the micron level rises whilst the vacuum is off otherwise your not going to get a true reading of the moisture levels inside your newly installed pipework once you hold a suitable moisture reading with no pump pulling it down you know your pipework is vacuumed efficiently.
