Mod Podge Transfer Method / Ink Jet vs. Laser Jet Printer / Will both work??
The number one question I get about my signs and how I make them .....is
Can I use an Ink Jet printer to make Mod Podge graphics or do I need a laser jet printer?
In today's video I am going to print out graphics on both printers and show you the end result.
You might be surprised!
By using these techniques you can learn how to make that distressed, farmhouse, rustic chic home decor that I love! Once you master this, your crafting can be taking to the next level!
Graphic is available for purchase on Etsy www.etsy.com/ca/OurUpcycledLi...

you don't have to crumple the paper .. just use special transfer paper for sublimation printing and the paper will peel off beautifully.....

If you're doing a distressed sign that you want to look aged I think the inkjet graphic compliments the aged look. You can always go in with prismacolor pencil to enhance the copy a little bit. 👍 Thanks for showing the two types of printer ink processes. Very helpful.

The channel, “Red Rocking Bird,” has a tutorial with an inkjet, and it worked great for her. She doesn’t use hair spray, but I have heard that might help. I haven’t tried it myself, yet, but I do want to try it. I have learned so much from both of your channels. You are such a great teacher. Thank you, for showing the difference, so we can explore, with the tools we have. I noticed one thing she did differently, is that she worked in small sections, to wet it, and rub it down, so that may have helped her. Since it wasn’t all wet at once, it didn’t give it time to smudge.

Thank you for the comparison. For the Inkjet = What you can also do is OVER Sharp your image, especially if transferring photos. Then get crazy, you can OVER Saturate any colors. Like it will be "too much," then when printing, do the highest quality = more ink is put down. Print, let it dry for a bit, completely dry, then do the Mod Podge. I always thought it odd that tutorials say it's not possible to transfer if using an inkjet. The OVER saturation and the OVER sharpening help make up for the result you're seeing here, which is flat, out of focus.

What a great video tutorial! I only have an inkjet printer and the question you answered by comparing the inkjet to the laser jet was really valuable and informative. Thanks! The grammar nerd in me has to comment on the pronunciation of the Mod Podge product. It’s NOT modge podge - the first word is MOD. It’s a mistake I hear all the time, though, because it’s so easy to do!😂 I think it may have been named Mod Podge because, years ago, mod meant new and improved. Anyway…please forgive my fanaticism! Good morning and Happy Easter! I use ink jet, but treat it more like rice or decopage paper. I dont flip the image, but rather use the whole thing. I buy cheap printer paper, its thinner and is easy to work with, plus I dont have to do the extra step of peeling the paper off. If you hair spray your image, it's less likely to run the colors...just a thought. I love your videos and how you teach, thank you.

Found ur videos while researching color graphic transfer onto wood. Your tutorials are very informative and I absolutely love the fact that u get down to business quickly. I have a question about the graphic transfer with an inkjet; I've watch several of your other videos on this subject and I noticed when you decoupaged ur camping pics and the graphic on the aged paper that you low baked then sprayed with hair spray to prevent bleeding (inkjet)...would this same process work with the reverse prints for total transfer (paper removal) or could it perhaps lessen the "bleeding" of the ink?
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife 2 года назад
When doing the reverse technique with an inkjet printer it won’t make a difference if you put it in the oven and actually if you put hairspray on it it will prevent it from transferring as well

I like the look of both. The laser jet is crisp and clean, but the inkjet has a worn, rustic look. I can see a place for both.

I am so excited. I just found you today on youtube. I watched the transfer video , how to make chalk paint and this video so far. My questions is, I believe you said their is an extra step you have to use if you are using an inkjet printer to make your transfers. I haven't found that video or I missed it somewhere. Is there an extra set or am I making that up? I appreciate your reply. Thank you for doing these videos. I am going to find you on Facebook next!! Have a great day.

Hi there! Glad you found me! Love new crafting friends. When using a ink jet you just have to use very little water and rub off in small sections at a time. It is a bit trickier but it can be done. Here is another video that will help you out :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F17WmucEwqM.html

I wonder if you put the Transfer medium on the wood, rather than on the inkjet picture would it smudge less? You wouldn’t be dragging your brush across the inkjet print merely laying it down on the prepared wood. Just a thought. Love your demos x

@OurUpcycledLife 3 года назад
I did try that technique and it didn’t make any difference. It’s the actual rubbing I found that took the image away. Worth a try though might work for you ❤️

thanks for such good informative video! noticed that you are using the white print paper to print the words.so the background is white. if using colored paper, then background will be colored as well? thanks!

Thanks for watching! You rub all the paper off so I would only use white paper or you will have a bit of a mess if ink from coloured paper runs ❤️

Thank you so much for your comparison. I'm curious about color graphics. Do you do many signs in color?
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife 2 года назад
My laser jet only prints black ink and that is what I used the most. Don't use colour much as my only option is my ink jet

If I just have a few, I take them to somewhere like Staples or Office Depot for the Laser Jet. It's just a few cents more.

So do you have to paint the wood surface first like you did or was that just for stand out quality? I also see lots of these videos using printable lable backing paper to print. Now those dont use modge podge and rubbing so does that mean long as im using mod podge technique i can use normal printing paper?(working with an ink jett) thank you for your time and this video comparison.
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife 3 года назад
I just use normal computer paper for this method and paint the wood so it stand out better. The label paper is a completely different method ❤️ thanks for watching

I recently saw a video where you put a ink jet printed image in a oven at 200° for 10 min. to set the ink will this work for reverse transfer printed with ink jet, will it help the ink transfer better with no or less smudges

Thanks for watching! I haven’t tried that but would certainly worth a try and it will probably help a lot with smudges. Let me know how it works it you try it! ❤️

Thanks for explaining the two different effects using a laser jet printer and a ink jet printer. My question is when you print on the ink jet printer, what are your settings? I know the paper is standard copy paper but do you change the settings on your printer to gloss photo paper or do you leave on plain paper?
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife 2 года назад
I don't change any settings! Mine works fine on the standard. Every printer is different though so you might have to play around with it a bit
