Bit of disappointing review. Having said that you tested them all on a launch monitor, it would have been great if you could have given us more insight on that I.e which one got the ball rolling quicker, which one rolled better on mishits etc etc
THE GRIFF Thanks for the feedback, completely understand your point. Truth is the data with putters isn't quite as conclusive as you see with full swing clubs. Where one might generate most topspin or forward roll it often doesn't get putts rolling the quickest. One might get putts rolling quickest but have big drop offs from one putt to another. The only story we really saw confirmed in data was how the Odyssey Stroke Lab produced very consistent numbers from putt to putt. We're normally all about data, but where there's a good chance it could be misleading we'd rather leave it out and answer golfers questions instead.
If you compare to other tests (like My Golf Spy), what is your take on their winners, Tommy Armour Impact #3 and TaylorMade TP Copper Collection Juno, and their value blade putter, Cleveland TFI 2135 compared to your suggestions ??
Aart van der Molen Good question. From my understanding there's a sway on MGS putter tests to how many putts have been holed, or how close putts have finished to the hole. Our issue with putter testing like this, is how repeatable are the results? It's like like saying a driver or iron has a tiny dispersion based on testing on a single day with one tester, chances are the following week the same driver won't have the same dispersion results. All the putters you mention are not available in the UK, the Juno is a few years old and not really available here anymore. Putter testing is the one area data isn't really conclusive yet (unless it's based on putts holed). Hope that helps.
Length is important for sure, but can't i just grip the putter a couple inches higher or lower on the grip to bring my eyes closer to being over or an inch inside the ball like most pros?
Yes of course Scott. The issue with going this route is you then don't get the benefit of any grip shape or profile (which can be a good or bad thing depending on the golfer).
Perhaps you should contact PING. My wife (5’4”) has the same putter & we have adjusted it without problems. I tried the putter myself, adjusting t all the way to the upper (longest limit), and it was stable for me (6’ 5”).
Church of Porsche Thanks for the question. Just to be clear we came up with a Top 10, which is on our website on the link below, the Evnroll ER 2.2 is within this 10. This video is support the piece, hence why we highlight our Editor Choice awards and two further stand out performers. www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/equipment/best/putters/
Claiming that a putter is better than an other one is as stupid as asserting : "these shows are the best 2019". Nonsense. For John Lawson, a famous putter fitter, 28 points must be analyzed to fit properly a putter, independent of its shape. How can so called pros make such a video ?
Brian Kinread Understand your point Brian, fact is the Spider X is the mallet / MOI putter that's convinced him to ditch a blade. And to be fair he has won The Players with it this year too.
