Yes, thats exactly what makes a good landing but some of the crash landings were flame outs and they misjudged the glide angle on our short rwy. Happy Holidays !

A lot of it is more money then skill. I doubt many built them themselves.

@@johnmajane3731 a lot of RC models now are all A.R.T.F, I still build all mine from Kit or plans but I do have a few A.R.T.F foamy models as well.

No way I would try and land on that kind of terrain. Im currently working on two different vtol rc aircraft. Both of which are jet powered and have starter generator motors that start the jet engine then generate power for a different set of brushless motors to generate lift. Super efficient turning gas in to electrical power reduces weight in the onboard battery

Totally agree. Flat approaches with way too much speed/no flaps equals disaster. Have to wonder why you would fly on an absolutely unsuitable strip after you have forked out big dollars and time on your model.

Yes, there are many good landings as well, some of these planes came in too fast after the engine quit and the pilots misjudged the glide ratio. Happy Landings !

Unfortunately the old model shops where customers used to hang there unwanted planes for sale at a modest price have long gone. RC is nothing now to how it used to be thanks to the bloody internet🤬

It does. One thing RC pilots don't use is the trim. That is why you see all the pitching up and down. I taught using the trim to several guys and they got it. Once trimmed the plane stays on speed, descent rate adjust with power. Very easy.

Yes, but you do not have nearly as much information, since you are seeing the plane in 3rd person and very few planes have things like airspeed sensor (or even barometer) so it is very easy to misjudge your speed and altitude when approaching, specially if the field is unknown to you. So for most of us a stabilized approach is when you take the plane in one piece, it is very hard to have the plane configured with proper speed, angle of attack etc so we often have to do minor changes in attitude or throttle on the last few meters (I think you would call that a non-stabilized approach by real planes standards). On top of that, with turbines you have to make the decision to go around quite early (like in a real plane), because our motors take some time to get to full speed (on older engines, it can be 10 seconds or more from idle to full speed). If the risk of crashing is high, most RC pilots (myself included) will recommend to stop your engine on purpose, or at least keep it idle. A crash with a turbine reving up is much more likely to go in flames and be much more dangerous and expensive that a crash with the turbine stopped (if you are lucky, maybe you "only" have to replace the plane kit, that costs around 25%-35% of the total build. On a fire, 100% of the build cost is lost forever). In fact, some of the crashes in the video are worsened for trying to do a go around, but aborting that when already on the ground (that is probably the worst thing you can do, but the time is limited and people makes mistakes under pressure, since we lack proper training on that like real pilots have). This is the case with the landing at 0:55, the crash could have been avoided if it just landed a bit long, but the motor was aready revving up for a go-around. The lack of a firm decision was quite bad there, since a go-around was also a valid option if the pilot decided to disengage the airbrake a bit earlier and avoided touching the ground at all. Is easy to speak afterwards like I am doing here though. Very good question I must say.

@@Igbf It all tends to be that they simply lack the basics of control. Thinking that a model is easier than a large plane hurts a lot in cost.

@@Vipcioo when you get to these size planes a lot of things start to happen. Structural failure, flutter, stalling and spinning From uncoordinated controls and many more. The smaller models get away with many evils.

Hello, rc flying is also fun and challenging, not directly comparable to actually leaving the ground in a full scale aircraft. I do and enjoy both but spend a lot less money on rc compared to actual flying. Your Cessna time is great and was also a lot of fun I bet ! Happy landings and have a Good Day !

@@rcplanedisplay the pilot should have been able to control it. Just had the nose to high, got to slow to maintain directional control. People don't understand the concept of Vmc.

Well, yes, a paved rwy is best for jets but a smooth grass runway is also great helps to slow down the planes after touchdown and less damage when crashing. Happy Landings !
