A good friend of mine his father was a welder and told us boys buy a respirator so you don’t end up like everyone else in your 40s we said why he said because all though you may be cutting and grinding and welding all those fumes do get you and cancer will catch you
Great video mate. So many welder don’t care about lung health and we need to make it standard! I love my 7500 but have that problem of having to remove it each time to talk. A 3m Ad flo with flip up is the cadillac but it’s sooo expensive. This quick release plus a pipeliner flip up lens might be the next best thing at fraction of cost
I've been using this 3m 6502QL respirator mask for about one year on my welding job, I am really happy with it, I wish I started using it at the beginning of my welding career. The filters which I buy for this mask are 3m 2138, they are awesome, they are specially designed for welding application, plus they block odours, cost really cheap, and fit under any hood. But after one year of using it I bought myself 3m speed glass 9002x welding mask with Adflo respirator system, this is much more expensive but even more convenient, I would say it is next level, especially when it is hot weather
@@JTwelder. I think it's to luxurious for a garage due to its price, it's for industrial usage in my opinion. Though I bought it used for around 500 dollars for the welding mask+Adflo
You need to understand respirators come in various sizes also. You need to make sure you have the right size. Also make sure the filter/filter cartridges you use are the right ones for the atmosphere your in. Other items of concern is: can you "physically" wear a respiratory (have you had a pulmonary function test?), not everyone can wear the same "style" respirator, do you know how to properly clean your respirator(?). I worked heavy construction (blast furnaces, oil refineries, chemical plants... I also worked as a Michigan OSHA Senior Safety Officer, all total 46 years in construction. I've seen it all, guys wearing respirators with full beards and guys who took theirs off, at the end of the day and just toss it in the back of their uncovered pick-up bed.
@@richardkawucha1232 I do know that respirators come in different sizes, I wear a medium and I get fit tested every two years. Yes I use the filters rated for the contaminants/fumes that I’ll be around. Obviously everyone knows your supposed to clean it and keep it in a sealed bag its just that a lot of workers are to lazy to do that. I never once implied that I didn’t know this information. The video was about the functionality of this respirator not a “every thing you need to know”.
Thank you for this! This is a great perspective for a life practice that could benefit welders in the long run. This is the info I have been looking for.
thanks for the honest review you made, now i can decide wich respirator i should buy. but i have a little bit of confusion in choosing the right filter for the respirator. which one you prefer for FCAW/SMAW welding between 2097, 2091 or 2297?
For welding use a 2097 or 2297 (they’re both rated the same for filtering but 2297 is easier to breathe through) they both have charcoal in the making them more suitable for welding than a 2091. I personally use the 2297 because I want to breathe as easily as possible when wearing a respirator.
Have you tried putting a bluetooth microphone inside the respirator? For sure there is a way to connect it to a small speaker that you also put on yourself. >> No more need to take off the mask for talking. Just an idea.
welding fumes are really over looked these days. I just got outta school and been mig welding about a year almost 2 and I wish I’d started wearing a respirator at the beginning. The crazy thing is I honestly had no clue how bad of stuff could be in this metal. Even just carbon steel has some pretty nasty stuff. Good to see somebody gettin it out there. Honestly I’d rather be bitched at to wear a respirator rather than steel toes and saftey glasses 😂
thank you, also just curious at the moment im going to welding school and is getting harder and harder to breath at times and im not sure if its worth getting a masks or respirator since ive been starting out..
I’m at a job they don’t enforce wearing respirator welding masks and even given the idea but after a few days I’ve decided to buy one of my own as I’m looking out for my own safety and I can tell there’s definitely some gas fumes everytime I’d jump back between cells 1 and 2 to load and unloading and assembly parts. I don’t personal weld but we have daihen welding robots that do so I’ve already taking the liberty of buying one.
Hello partner Jacob. I have an important question regarding two models, of which I do not know which is better. In terms of comfort, as you mention, which model is better for welding, the 6500QL respirator or the 7500? Thank you, and I hope you can answer my question because I don't know which of the two models to buy.
I believe they are quite similar, similar size, downward exhaust (good for not fogging up welding helmets/visors the quick latch system that the 6500GL has is in my opinion really handy so that is the one I would pick (Only used the 6500QL)
GVS half mask same company and model as Miller half mask fits underneath your welding hood GVS makes the Miller respirator and costs less exact same respirator 👍
This 3m blows the gvs/miller out of the water!!! I will happily pay more to have the quick latch system and also 3m filters are much much more common and easier to get your hands on.
I was literally about to reach out to you on instagram to see if you where going to make any videos any time soon. I'm loving the videos man, they are so helpful to me.
Awesome great to hear! I took the whole summer off to work on a personal project of mine so I haven't had the source of content like I thought I would otherwise. Fortunately the project I'm working on is welding related and will be a great video but I'm uploading it as one big video instead of parts.
@@JTwelder. Which to get the 7502 or the 6502? Does the 6502 have the same silicone seal? I do like the quick latch on the 6502 but comfort would be more beneficial in the long run.
I have this respirator, its good but the only thing I don't like is that it puts an uncomfortable amount of pressure on the bridge of my nose and its to the point where its left a dark spot on my nose.. Ive been getting the small, would using a medium help with this?
Definitely! I would say 80% of field welder don't wear any type of respiratory protection and probably 50% also smoke. It's a great way to destroy your lungs.
@@JTwelder. Yea, whats on your face you can wash off. But whats on your lungs you cant. Black lung etc.. causes heart failure. Terrible existence when you can no longer go for a walk you are so out of breath.
Yeah they are definitely a better option health wise but for a lot of confined space and Field work they really can be quite a nuisance. Thats why a lot of guys just run a respirator.
@@JTwelder. I like the idea of the papr system cause saftey glasses are much more comfortable to wear without them being pushed out by a respirator. Plus u have free unrestricted breathing and talking . and it’s more comfortable so that equals wearing it more often. nothing wrong with a good old respirator tho, much better than nothing
It sucks cause my job won't get these cause they don't want to go through making sure their fitted right and all the other things they have to do to be sure their used correctly.
