I was going to but with the delays expected of the 5090, and bought buy scalpers at launch, didn't figure on having a chance on buying one anytime soon.
@@oo_doggo4736 Never wait for anything with PCs. There's ALWAYS something better coming, and, once it does come, it's going to be overpriced. Someone who waits will never get his PC done.
For Audio part: Don't forget we can always buy PCIE sound card that will do the amazing job for just 100$ or less. Even 50$~ sound card should be better than any codec there.
i planned to wait for 9950x over 7950x but looks like i go buy the 7950x for now instead of waiting for any bug fixes or bios update for 9950x or gets confused on upcoming future problems from 9950x
I’ll stick with my 7950x3d for the time being. I use my PC primarily for work so I typically jump all over the newest flagship hardware as it’s easily justifiable for me. Having said that I also want it to game. Pretty disappointed in the 9950x performance. Wasted opportunity by AMD to really kick Intel while they were down. Hopefully the x3d chips blow us away. If the 7800x3d was an option for me I would go that route, but I need the cores. It’s amazing in the wife’s PC. ZERO stability issues with either PC.
I would love for corsair to run dummy sticks so it can look like there is 4. My ocd is challenged every single time I look at a build with only two sticks.
Can you help? What MOBO should I buy ■ i5-12600k ■ Palit RTX 3060 12GB ■ Kingston Furry Beast 5,200Mhz CL 36 (16x2) white ■ Cooler Master 750watts MWE 80Plus Gold ■ Asus Prime AP201 white ■ ADDATA 960 MAX 1TB ■ AK400 white ■ FC 120 WHITE FAN white
Z690/Z790 if you want most performance with solid VRMs. Possibly Asrock PG Lightning/similar check board reviews also. I have had B760M (you could go cheap B660M) Asrock that was fine too originally paired with 12700KF but now it's with 12400F for office. I've used 2 x Asus TUF Gaming Wifi Z690s with 12700KF & 12900KF, but they have USB dropout quirks (I went Linux it would rear it's ugly head a lot in Windows 11 but the B760M from Asrock was less fiddly/issues). I've had better stability gaming with ecores off, was having problems with game dropping from P core to E core (namely WoW). Would see the reviews but my Asrock PG itx/ac from 9th gen Z board is still solid today, I think that is one solid line. Some of the Asus boards have issues with USB failure to detect/dropout, it's annoying when you want to boot and keyboards or mice won't plug in/detect period. Also had some BSODs across 3 ram kits on that Asus Z690 so caveat emporium with that board, if they are priced similarly might be worth going with a competitor. Gigabyte Aorus I believe those have white boards, if you want a white board those cost more but will match (NZXT also does white). GL.
You've got a K series CPU, so presumably you intend to overlock it, which means you have to get a Z790 motherboard, so take a look at relevant reviews and choose one of them.
Thanks for this VERY useful video!! Jason, I've relied on your reviews for a few years now and find them essential when researching a new build. THIS video came at the right time for me.
Awesome choice with RTX 4090 for that Ryzen 9 9950X. Apparently the 9950X is quite good for AI workloads and the RTX 4090 with its 24GB VRAM is super good in that too. Otherwise, if you game too, better snag the Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
When do you use a propping metal to support the GPU because it might be too heavy once installed on the motherboard? And what do you recommend? Brand, model etc. I hope to upgrade my 1070ti with a heavier GPU like 3090 soon. Thanks.
Watch the videos linked in the description I referenced in the video. He goes through what speeds he recommends and also how to manually tune the RAM. Again, unless you MUST have more than 96GB of RAM, I recommend sticking to a 2 stick configuration.
Great advice. However, isnt the 1200W power box overkill? I hear an 850W power box is more suited to the 9950X. Or is it best to have more power if you're running a 4080, 4090 or plan to run a new 5000 series RTX? Thoughts please?
Me bought 850W for 9950x, but currently running on internal GPU. Power draw is ~270W. Additional GPU would consume 300-400, so 850W is fine. Yes, 1200W is overkill indeed.
9950X seems great if your productivity/server apps run on Linux - the Phoronix and Level 1 Techs reviews make it seem great for Linux Getting one for a Windows based creator build seems kind of iffy - All sorts of odd issues even in productivity apps and it doesn't seem as if AMD has a clue about the cause or the fix.
Hey Jason i want to ask that if 7800x3d is ok for video editing, graphics designing, coding and other productivity work because i need to do these work along with gaming. And if not can you suggest any other cpu good for mixed purpose.
You got the best for gaming and like a 10-20% less the best for productivity...I wouldn't get rid of that CPU unless you really are concentrating on productivity, and then you would want to get a non-X3D processor for better multi-threading anyways.
@@RaiDen_Not0P if you need a CPU for those I would go 7900X instead as it's a better CPU for Production Work for about the same price as the 7800X3D. Won't be as good for Gaming though.
The reason you buy a non x3d chip is for productivity and no fuss with the dual ccds or core parking nonsense, who buys a flagship cpu for efficiency? 7950X is better unless you are taking advantage of VNNI and AVX 512 which some chess engine compilation will. Skip Zen 5 and will wait for Zen 6.
I really like my Asus ProArt X670-E Creator Wifi. It's going for $459.99 at Amazon currently. For the level of board this is - I feel it's a good value for it.
Ryzen has memory controller (infinity fabric) inside the CPU that needs to run at speeds 1:1 with RAM, if you go with ram above 6000, the memory controller can't keep up and reduces speeds
On AM4 or AM5? I have a 5800X3D with a 3090 on AM4 and run at 4k for everything, including gaming, using my LG C2 OLED tv. The 3090 is roughly equivalent (but slightly slower) than a 4080 when looking at test charts. Unless you need AV1 encoding, you are good for a while still. If you aren't upgrading to a 4090, it is a waste of time.
I'm to late to. This party. I did return ryzen 7900 with 4 sticks of ddr and 3 motherboards that I tried and crashed the system So bad that I wasn't able to boot again... so I'm staying with my money and looking at the market not having the balls to try again
Hey Jason great video. I’m new to pcs and kinda stuck on what to get. I’ve been considering the 7800x3d but can improve my gpu and other specs going with the 7600. What should I do?
@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you. Nevertheless I ordered ATX3.0 850W. 9950x with 96 GB RAM, internal GPU it drains 230 Watts max. The rest is/will be reserved for a real GPU as I've heard they might eat even 400 Watts.
Hey, sorry to be a pain but I’m completely new to computers and I’m saving up to buy one. Could you please tell me if i have made a mistake or went overboard on a part? Ill be using a ryzen 5 7600x Corsair vengeance 2x16gb ddr5 6000 and a CL of 36 4070 super windforce OC Corsair rm750e 80+ gold Samsung 990 pro 2tb Msi x670e gaming plus wifi Thermalright aqua elite 360 And a montech air 903 max
So you don't need a X670E. B650 is all you need. Also if using it for Gaming I would go AMD on the GPU instead. Finally Jason recommends 6000 CL30 for RAM. What country are you from? If it has a PC Part Picker and I make adjustments to your build.
9950x is a dud. Just save the money and get a 7950X instead. There is no reason to purhase the 9950x over the 7950x! Also the 9900X and 9950X owners have to worry about scheduling conflicts now just like the 7900X3D and 7950X3D did. The 7950X didn't have to worry about scheduling conflicts out of the box.
noo,why you suggest this crappy cpus at all(unless you get them for free or be payed by sime store or amd)? Otherwise they are too expensive and gives basically none improvements or 1-3% over zen4 counterparts and you cant call that improvements
This is a build guide for those that are building with this CPU. See our latest video on the channel and the video before this one for our thoughts on its lack of value, but for those that are going to build with it I want them to get the best bang for their buck they can
This is a guide for this very specific CPU and super high end creator pc! If you are looking to build a gaming PC there's actually incredible value to be had, this just isn't the guide for that. Hop over to our latest Best Builds Series and in particular, check out our Best Budget Gaming PC 2024 video.
Well if you have the budget to purchase a high end CPU like Ryzen 9950x you won't think twice and buy another lower GPU than 4070 ti super it just doesn't make sense
Why buy cpu that underperforms worse than the previous model and pay extra for it . Every review of this cpu is terrible , I was waiting to purchase the 9800x 3d because I'm stuck with a rubbish 13700k degrading and even feel let down by AMD now . The pc market is absolutely rubbish at the moment .
@@2hotscot no , but I might aswell wait for the 9800x 3d reviews as I'm not in any rush, but it's not looking very good even for the 9800x3d if the rest of the line up is like this, plus I'm waiting for the x870 boards in September, again no point buying a 670 if I only have to wait a month , just a very disappointing launch thats all , was expecting something a bit better.
In short: If your interest is gaming wait for the 9000 series X3D launches soon rather than get this now. Otherwise stick to the 7800X3D if you have to have it now. Optionally, wait until that X3D launch and compare prices and performance between the best AMD gaming CPUs for some potential savings to your wallet.
No doubt it's a great work performance CPU, but AMD should've focused more on single core gaming performance, without having to upgrade to a 9xxx3D architecture. Step up your game AMD! BTW - Take a shot every time Jason says "9950X" on that intro! 😄
For the rest of Ryzen 9000 I totally agree, but people interested in this type of build are likely doing professional applications on their pc so for those that truly need the best of the best I think its worth it. We are using ours as our new main video editing rig for example.
But what if you just wanna crunch a bunch of numbers... 16 fast cores with AVX-512 could be better than a double precision GPU depending on the workflow. And you "technically" can use ECC on AM5 too. But yes for just gaming 7800X3D is king still.
