A month or so ago I picked up the Rzr Magnum platform by Arsenal. Could this be the ultimate saddle hunting platform? Let's take a deep dive into the product and find out. FYI ... I have NO professional affiliation with Arsenal.

I have the same platform. I love it ! I was in the same boat with reaching to use the tie off method. My fix was I now tie it in front of me and then rotate to the side I want it. Sometimes with a tree with rough bark I need to fold the top step in to get it to rotate but it makes it so much easier to tie .... try it out next time .

Remember back to the days when companies like Lone Wolf had the versa strap with the double J hook that you could position and the platform just hung on and then you cinched the strap on the versa button. Much simpler, less cost and you could pre position on trees you knew you would be hunting on a regular basis for "pennies on the dollar". Trophy Line had a similar idea. I miss those days.

I’ve got the same platform and love it. The angle adjustment is cool and it bites the tree very well. The small rope & the winding clip is a plus in my view. Super quick. To your point the winding clip did take a few hunts to get used to but even if there is small slack, once I step on the upper tab and toe hook it - the lockdown is outstanding.

Rumor on the street is that they are re-designing that portion of the platform for 2024. I have heard a lot of grumblings from many users of the platform about the 2023 attachment method. Still an awesome platform and knowing the guys at Arsenal, the 2.0 version will be even better than the 1.0 version.

Tie it off right in front of you without opening the stand-off. Go twice around the versa then finish the rope lock method. Once it’s tied, push it up and use the slack to shimmy it over 90 degrees. Start opening the stand off and it’ll tension the rope. Press down on platform, stand-off opens, and the bite is the absolute tightest it can possibly be with the durabraid. I have a video up if you can’t picture what I’m trying to describe

I have tried that approach as well. I simply prefer the cam buckle strap. Just so much simpler. That doesn't mean that the platform is bad. Conversely, it is probably the nicest platform that I have used and I love it. I have used it several times this year. I just prefer a cam strap on my platforms. I have tried nearly every type of attachment method on many platforms and I just like the cam strap. That is the beauty of mobile hunting ... options. And this platform gives the hunter options, another huge plus in its great design.

It helps if you tie the rope the way Scott says in the video he released. I was doing it the same way you did here only to find out the issues I was having with it not really biting were due to me not attaching it properly. Also, I noticed that when I started doing it the way Scott instructs I had significantly less flex when standing on it. For reference, I'm a bigger guy. I weigh 270ish depending on the day. I wear size 13W boots and have plenty of foot room.

The rope was tied per the instructions. I have seen Scott's videos too. I am not knocking the rope system at all. I said repeatedly that it is a cool design. However, for ME, hanging 90 degrees from the platform and trying to manipulate a rope in the cold and in the dark is not for me. This is an AWESOME platform. But my preference on ALL platforms is a simple strap and that is the kick ass thing about this platform, is that you can use pretty much any attachment method that you want to. Another buddy of mine prefers daisy chains and uses that on his Rzr platform. Options are great and this platform offers it all.

@@NewDayOutdoors I agree, it is a very nice platform. I do like that you can pretty much use any attachment method you want. I'm not trying to be argumentative but unless I missed it you didn't wrap the rope around the button a second time before beginning the process of wrapping the rope on the wing. That's what I wasn't doing before that was giving me some slack. If you plan to use another attachment method then it's no big deal, but for anyone who does plan to use the supplied rope the way it was done in the video wasn't quite right.
@chrisjanes3822
@chrisjanes3822 7 месяцев назад
Exactly, the rope has to wrap around the button first to pull the slack and hold the platform allowing you to tie if off freely. As per Scott's video Otherwise, great video as always

I think one of the hang free systems would work very well
@NewDayOutdoors
@NewDayOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
It might. I owned one and ended up giving it away to a friend before I got this platform. I did not like the Hang Free in the field. Just seemed too difficult to tighten down if you don't take the time to totally loosen the prusik (totally a me thing). I just find the standard cam-buckle straps so simple for platforms.

Is it possible to remove that rope attachement metal or is it welded on? I agree with your, think it crazy to fiddle running that rope through all those grooves hanging from a tree. I like simple and fast methods.

have the regular size Rzr, took the bracket off, use a 3/16" Amsteel rope mod with the trucker's hitch. Gets it super tight to the tree. Give it a try!!

I would imagine that once you get a couple turns on the cleat you could go ahead and cam it over without it mov ing and then finish off on the other side. Have you tried that? I am looking at this platform very hard because of it's packability. It also looks slick as heck. Thanks for the review.

I have tried everything. It seems to be a common issue. Word on the street is that they are re-designing the attachment method for next year.

Do their sticks mate to the platform in any specific manner? I see a few small holes and hooks (not the belt clip) and was wondering if you purchase the sticks and platform if they would snap together in a full unit... Everything I've watched folks really like this platform. Its on a different quality level .
@NewDayOutdoors
@NewDayOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
No they do not. The sticks do stack together themselves nicely. I have an interview that I did with Scott the owner of Arsenal back in late July on my channel where he shows how the sticks stack together. But no they don't stack such that it incorporates the platform.

Thanks think I've watched every video available on these sticks and platform...Actually ordered the Magnum and 4 X20 sticks as well a new saddle (Timber Ninja Ultimate) ... hopefully the wife doesn't see the debt card hit.. lump it all together with Christmas....

A platform at that price point should not have that much flex, everytime it flexes like that the material is getting weaker sure it may last years not something im trusting though
@fishingwithphil2582

It just does not look as solid as a trophy line.
@NewDayOutdoors
@NewDayOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
It also doesn't weigh as much or fold as compact. Trophy Line makes awesome stuff. But to compare them is apples and oranges.
@grindano
@grindano 7 месяцев назад
At 1 lb 2oz heavier, the trophyline onyx comes in at $229 vs $300. The trophy line has the same foot area, imo thee best bite on the tree, damn near zero flex, cut in angles for odd angle shots and a downward angled edge around the perimeter for foot comfort. I’ve seen at least 3 videos on here where people are Standing on the rzr and top teeth aren’t even touching the tree!
@longislandwanderers
@longislandwanderers 7 месяцев назад
@@grindanoif someone’s standing on a RZR and the top standoff isn’t touching the tree, it wasn’t tied properly. I own a RZR and the magnum. Have never had that issue. When tied properly it doesn’t flex much at all. I can clip the RZR to my cargo pocket and walk a mile in. Super light and compact. Not saying TL doesn’t make fantastic products. Arsenal products are extremely sleek, super light, and very quiet. I own many platforms, my Arsenal platforms are the ones I pack for mobil hunting. I leave my XOP, hawk, Tethrd, and Trophyline in pre hung spots all year so I can just walk in and hunt. But for stick and platform running and gunning man, this gear is the shiznit.
