Good video Ivan. I’ve got the Autel MS906bt and, thru you, I got the ThinkTool Pros. Love the ThinkTool. I work out of my home as you do but don’t do a fraction of the diagnostic work you do. Even at 66 I love the challenges diagnosing brings. Scan tools can become an addiction. Thank you for great videos.

Ivan, something to consider.. Autel will lock any updates through their server, or support if the scanners are bought other than a legit US distributor. They are pretty serious about it

Considering these tools cost about the same as a minor/mid level repair it seems a no-brainer to have one even if you just want to educate yourself about your own vehicle. I have found that a good honest tech will appreciate when you go in with a level headed perspective about the problem as long as you don't erase the codes first.😂

I got the Xtool D8 for $700.. It's very good, it has all the bi-directional controls. and 30 special functions. and is very good at making keys and pulling codes for special keys, ect.... It's one downside is that it can't graph the data very well.. I can only graph one thing at a time in the live data pid list.... and then I can only "combine" 5 different things at once, and it will only let you do it on one graph........... It won't fill the screen with several mini-graphs like the thinktool does, which is unfortunate... but otherwise it has been very good for everything else. and has 3 years free updates. It paid for itself in the first week easy...... The Topdon Phoenix ($900) or the Thinktool ($1200) are both better options from what I've seen.... The D8 is definitely worth the money though.

I know it was mandatory for vehicles starting 2008, to come from the factory with some form of TPMS. But these systems were available on a lot of vehicles long before that. Something you need to watch out for though, there are some Honda's, Acura's, VW's and BMW's for instance that don't actually have TPM sensors. Instead, they use the wheel speed sensors to measure the tire size difference. But in any case, it can be quite valuable to any DIY-er or mechanic, to have a TPMS tool to help in resetting that pesky low tire pressure indicator light.

I've owned TPMS vehicles since 2010 and haven't needed a tool yet (GM and Mercedes - can't speak to other makes). Provided I bought the proper OEM sensors, I've never had an issue following the OEM relearn process. Yes generic sensors are cheaper but they last a long time and it would take a long time to pay that back with a tool.

@kevin9c1
@kevin9c1 2 года назад
@@YuckFou0x0FFFF I think a lot of that is because many cars don't tell you actual tire pressures through the gauge cluster. All 5 vehicles I've owned with TPMS (04-08 vehicles) show me individual tire pressure, which I find very useful.
@athhud
@athhud Год назад
The cheapest option with TPMS is to keep the OEM sensors and just install new batteries. I know with my wife’s 2016 Impala you have to reprogram the sensors after the batteries die, but that’s no big deal with a cheap $10 ebay tool.

If the sensors already have an ID number, any sensor will work as long as the sensor is is on the right frequency. If you want to make a copy your current sensors to put in another set of tires/wheels, so you can swap sets without doing a relearn process, you will need a set of programmable sensors. These tools are fine if you only need to do a relearn. The Autel TS508 which I have can only clone/program Autel sensors. I assume the same applies to the 808 series. I don't mind that because I like Autel's push button release on their sensors which makes them a breeze to install and change.

I am always interested in a good aftermarket scantool that does bi-directional stuff. But for me it has to be very Mercedes compatible, particularly mid-2000s Mercedes. Best one I seem to have found so far is the Foxwell NT510. I can get a Mercedes-only one of these for $200 and that is going to be hard to beat. Again I need it to work with EVERY module, and support the same bi-directional controls as the factory Star system, with the exception of module programming. Someday I'll invest in a Star setup but a modern, lightweight scan tool that does everything but programming would be highly valuable obviously.

AUTEL is an unethical company that takes advantage of its consumers. I acquired a maxisys pro in 2015 and had no reason to upgrade its software because it was compatible with all of my vehicles. A free update released an application that works like ransomware and installs a timer that prevents you from accessing the diagnostic part of the tool. Now, all I get is a “Software is not authorized!” message when I try to use the diagnostic part of my tool The only available option is to purchase an upgrade from Autel for $1400.00. Product knotting is illegal in the United States, and this corporation should be severely punished for what they're doing to their customers in order to create cash flow due to the recent lawsuit Autel settled.

@@dieseldawg7132 It's very good.. It just doesn't "graph" the data very well, like the others do. If you've watched this channel a lot, you've probably seen where his ThinkTool scanner can have a full screen of like 8 different mini graphs all at once.. The D8 cannot do that at all. It can only graph one thing at a time... OR You can pick up to 5 separate things to graph, and it can only COMBINE them all together on ONE graph--- so all your squiggled lines of data end up over lapping each other and you're trying to look at several things at once----- rather than having several mini graphs that are easy to read.... This is really the only downside I've seen with the D8. But it was only $700, and that ThinkTool Ivan uses is like $1300.. SO it's almost double the price....... IDK, the D8 is still very good, and you usually only need that extra detailed graphed data when you are comparing to a pico scope signal, ect.. Othwise you don't really need it I guess.... But the point is, the ThinkTool is better and the Topdon Phoenix is better (for $900) ... and if I could go back, I'd probably just get one of those instead. This D8 has already paid for itself though, very quickly. I made several copies of IMMO Keys and key fobs in 4 different cars right away. And the Dealers were trying to charge me $500 per key, which is just insane. So again, getting a scan tool was the only way to go. I'm not paying some corrupt dealer $500 for a dang key to be made.

You can buy way better scanners with way more functions for the same money.Autel has become a money hungry game with updates,and the updates they do release isn't much at all.I have the MX808,and it was the worst 500 bucks I have ever spent!

I bought Autel MP808TS just a year ago. Last week the VCI died on it, just one solid red led on when plugged in. Contacted the seller on ebay, and they said that i need to send the whole unit back to China, and i need to pay the repair since i've owned it just over a year and it is out of warranty. Their listing says that it has 5 year warranty which is seemingly complete BS. I'll maybe buy another vci for it, but i thought about buying Thinktool Pros now. I have Launch Diagun iv too, and it has been working flawless for four years so i trust Launch quality more than Autel.

So, with a ThinkTool PROS available @ $950.00 today, which would you purchase, PROS or MaxiCOM? Thanks!

Ivan first excellent informative video. I own the launch X431 mini which is a very good scanner and just updates Honda enhanced software but looking for a larger screen and battery life. I’ve been considering the think tool pro that you have and also the launch X431 pro 3s+. Any opinions. Price wise they are close. I don’t want a Chinese clone software rip-off. I buy good quality tools with good support. Seems like you have good success with the think tool. Any input appreciated. You and wife stay safe and well Artie 👍

All the Autel, Launch, and Thinktool are Chinese. They reverse engineer the manufacturers software. If you don't want that, then you have to pay the premium Snap-on, Bosch, Autologic charge ($4,000-ish starting?). They pay the royalties to the manufacturers and pass the cost on. And then you'll find the Chinese will still do a lot the others won't. The Chinese software is pretty good at cloning modules, rewriting vin's, and working with anti-theft. I hardly even try the Snap-on unless all my Chinese scanners fail, even then it's a very low success rate for the Snap-on. The Launch and Thinktool usually do TPMS just fine if you buy a cheap $20 TPMS activation tool to use in conjunction with them.

@@donwasse7892 yes I know they are Chinese but I’m trying to purchase from a USA seller who will stand behind the product if something goes wrong. I will not purchase off Amazon for that reason. Thanks for the reply Artie 👍

I really like your videos and I would like to purchase one of theses Autel scanners but not until I find out why mechanics and DIY'ers are not up in arms and allowing theses companies to scam them with updates? You are being scammed like never before. I bet they are nothing but bug fixes. They want the public to find all the bugs and then soak you $600 each year. I would bet that if you missed two or more years of subscriptions that your machine would say this isn't supported and that isn't supported etc. How much longer will mechanics allow them self's to be scammed like this?

Thanks for the review. Can anyone answer this? If you buy the autel mp808bt and don’t pay for the upgrade does it just leave you with the with the info from the last upgrade? So I would not be up to date with 2024 cars and newer?

Do any of those tools allow the setting of VIN in the PCM (Chrysler, 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee) where a PCM has been moved from another vehicle?

Also the maxicom are the international versions. Maxipro or Ms are u.s. versions. . i did a lot of research and i personally didn't want the international versions. You can use maxicom here in the u.s. but supposedly the maxicom version only supposedly get assistance from overseas. Vs the Ms maxipro has customer service here in the u.s.... If i got to talk to someone overseas at a different time of day that I'm sleep then I'll pass. Lol

Looks like the MaxiPRO $100 off code is not working any longer. The price seems to have also changed from $630.99 to $680.99 I was going to pick up this scanner as I already have a separate TPMS tool from Autel (Autel MaxiTPMS TS508). I may have just missed this sale :(

Ivan, what are the limitations of the MaxiCom over the Thinktool? I've seen you using the Thinktool more lately. I've got a 2013 T&C I need to do TPS relearn (changed the ECU due to alternator not charging.) But also have the annoying TPMS on my 06 Suburban, plus an airbag light (mechanic replaced the heater core and that light came on.) Thank you for your advice. I'm a big fan of your videos and subscriber.
