Hida Folk Village is an open-air museum in Takayama that showcases traditional Gassho-Zukuri houses of Hida region. It is a great way to experience the traditional architecture of this region without going to Shirakawago.

We were there last week and witnessed the Hida Folk Village winter illumination! It was very lovely to see! ❤️

Went to the Hida Village several years ago. We had the place mostly to ourselves......entrancing! I would like to live around there and be a retiree volunteer....for anything they might need done that I can still do!

Been there. It's a great place! (although I used Yusuke-san's bicycle instead of the bus :D) There's a very cool miniature waterfall there as well, and in October, there were swans on the lake. At the top of the village (as it's located on a hillside, or even mountainside), there's also a weird but interesting temple with pictures on the ceiling. Definitely recommend the place!

I think Shirakawago still wins in many aspects. But if you don't have time, or if you are tight on budget, this is a decent alternative :)

Japanesquest awesome! Thanks for your response! We've been to Japan a few times but only recently discovered your channel. Your video on Takayama has helped a lot and we decided to try the tourist pass that includes the bus to shirakawago for our trip next week. I hope it's still snowing so we can see it as a snow village. Thanks!

Unfortunately just too cute. Hida Folk Village is one of my favorite places in Japan. I saw it in mid November. I agree that it is preferable to Shirakawa Go and much easier to reach. That doesn’t mean that both aren’t meant to be enjoyed.
