I totally NEED a huge shoe sideboard for my family and guests as well!! My husband and I have 4 kids - 3 teenage boys and a 25 yr daughter. My daughter and one of our sons are absolute shoe FIENDS! Each of them have enough shoes to fill more than one of these units on their own. Add guests to the mix and we definitely need a gigantic shoe cabinet.

I'm Norwegian and we don't wear shoes inside the house in my country either. A lot of other northern european cultures have that tradition too ^^ So many lovely options, but most wouldn't work in Norway. The weather is often snowy and rainy so shoes need to dry on an open, preferably metal, surface. However they would work fantastic for shoes storage in a bedroom!

I am LatinX 2nd generation born here and can tell you when I got divorced I decided to make my household a no shoe space. Being a single mom and having to do all the cleaning and organizing I knew the no shoe home was an option for me. When my Dad visits he has his own pair of slippers when he arrives as so does my daughter and myself. Guests know they need to take their shoes off as well as repair persons. Thank you Julie for this video. I need ideas as to how to create this space in the entrance area of my home.

Another great video with valuable tips. I have a better idea about what I like and now it's more about deciding on a few pieces out of the many options you shared that will work with my modern farm house style. What I will take away most from this is when you said dont look at the name of the furniture but if it serves the function you have in mind. It makes so much sense now, thanks Julie. Love the sourcing videos and creative functional tips! If not already on your upcoming list, consider counter stools. I’m struggling to find one for a kitchen island with low back so it is comfortable for older adults to gather or have breakfast with swivel and performance fabric if coming in from the pool for a snack. Great point! Invest in some cedar blocks to help combat the smell. If you stuff newspaper in sneakers, it helps absorb smell and mildew

Hi Julie! I never thought to use a console as a shoe rack. Terrific idea. I agree that one cannot place the plastic ones in a nice part of the home. But they are easier to clean. Any ideas from a pro diy pro to hack them up if you have to use them. They are so compact. Nice hair style on you! ❤️🥰👏🏻

Hi Julie, I love all of your videos, so helpful. I will be grateful if you can make a video about how to make narrow/ small entryway look bigger. I will have a loft conversion done and my staircase is in the living room. Following the UK regulations, to have a loft conversion done, we need to build a wall to separate the staircase to a room (the theory is that if there is fire happens, the smoke will go up so people on the upper floor will know rather than the smoke fills up the room downstairs first then slowly moving up). This will make my house entrance very small and narrow. I am looking into ideas of how to make it looks bigger. Many thanks.

Thank you Julie. I recently found your channel. You are so helpful and easy to listen with great pointers, quick jump on a topic and not too long of elaboration. There is nothing more irritating and disrespectful than seeing popular designers mocking anything that they consider not the latest trend and people who own these pieces instead of giving practical advice for different budgets. Your advice on using variety of cabinets for storage of shoes is spot on. I purchased nice front entry cabinet with drawers from Costco, since Ikea and Wayfare is not available in my state, and we store all our hats, gloves and dog winter jackets and booties in it. now, I am in search of vertical shoe storage idea for garage since most of our shoes get wet from rain and snow. I am wondering if there are any narrow plastic trays that could be inserted in any of these cabinets to keep the shelves from getting wet or very dirty or some sort of idea what could be inserted?

I would probably dedicate a vertical rack especially for wet/muddy boots and line the bottoms with a silicone tray. They make all shapes and sizes, I found a few on Amazon that would work. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel 🙏☺️

A timely video! My (30 year old) apartment has a very dated looking built-in shoe cabinet in the entryway, which is very handy. One of my future projects is to redo this cabinet. The cabinet has slanted shelves which I find impractical and annoying. They're fine for sneakers and flats, but I find heels tend to "slip" down the shelf and the little "fence" at the bottom of the shelf (which prevents the shoe from slipping right off the shelf) may scuff the shoe. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. When I replace this cabinet, I'm totally getting flat shelves.😊

Hi Julie,nice and helpful video as usual..one question though..i am from NE India where everyone wear shoes inside..but i like the idea of putting off the shoes inside..if we tuck in all the shoes in a cabinet,how can visitors get a message that we don't allow shoes? On the other hand,i hate clutter and i couldn't stand the idea of putting indoor slippers in plain sight..any solutions?

I get this question frequently- some even suggested to leave a little note at the entry to remove outside shoes alongside a basket of new socks/ washable house slippers to guests to slip into

But some racks have doors with no holes. Because in rainy seasons shoes socks smell very bad. So it needs to have ventilation holes in rack so that the smell or odour coming from shoes or socks can escape.

If your walls are flat, I would go with Shitake eggshell or satin sheen on the cabinets, especially if you want it to blend in. The slight sheen will actually make the color look a bit different

The problem with the closed shoes storage in this pricey pieces is thr smells. The rubbery dirty shoe!foot smell greets you every time you open the doors. I. Constantly spraying the drawled and shoes with perfume to get rid of the problem. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on the piece… if it’s solid wood that’s going to absorb odors.

My only complaint about this video is that I had to go through 30 minutes of expensive furniture, and then in 10 seconds I have to pause and zoom in to see the 50 dollars options. And then check the links and open them one by one, to see what you chose.

I don’t understand how some people keep their footwear inside their bedroom, in their walk-in closet, on open shelves, along with their clothes n other items. I prefer keeping all my shoes in a separate shoe cabinet with closed doors at the entryway.

I have two shoe cabinets in my closet. Once I enter the home, I take my shoes off and carry them in there. But NEVER any shoes in the house for sure 🙌

I'm African American, and my home is a no shoe wearing home. Visitors must leave their shoes at the door or wear shoe covers.

I disagree with your statement that furniture shouldn't have engravings or other interesting details. Those artisan details add character, especially in a traditional interior decor style
