The Zoolander reference alone was great, but when you dropped that red Swingline stapler down like a boss, you just won video of the year. You can pick up your award in 4 months at the ceremony.
I want every single one of these products. My wife wouldn’t let me install the Lifx Tile or Beam products in the family room, but that wood product looks great. The Lifx are perfect for my kids’ dorm rooms and apartments.
The nano leaf lights look AMAZING but I can’t justify spending $400 on a single light feature (even if I could afford it)… I guess I’ll just wait for some cheaper options.
Good video! I went crazy with lights in my living room. It's basically my game room/home theater room. So I have lights behind the tv, and a few behind the chairs to help the room have a solid feel to it. Im so jealous of those light saber looking lights you have in your theater room! I really want to get a few, but dang those are pricy.
One thing I did is wrap LEDs (strips) around my speaker stands then put paper or lampshade material around it to diffuse the light (and hide the eye sore of the stands)
Another awesome video; thanks Reed! Do you mind sharing what monitor/display mount you are using? I am in the market and haven’t seen the one you are using I don’t believe. Thanks!
I use a govee lyra in my office in the corner to get more of a reflected rgb effect. I would imagine that looking at a strip in the corner, even diffused, would be straining over time.
Even though I'm moving to smart switches now, I tend to prefer the Lifx bulbs for 2 reasons. 1. They remember their last powered state, so if power goes out in the middle of the night they won't wake you when the power comes back on. 2. They are able to be locally controlled, so if the internet drops or lags, you can still control them on your local wireless network from the app. I used to use the Sengled bulbs, which are great, but when I lost power I lost the ability to control all my bulbs. Things to think about.
Hi Reed. I'm looking for Paul. Is Paul here? I'm a Wyze bulb fan too. The color ones are great. I also have a Wyze Sensor which is on my mailbox. When the box is opened, two of my Wyze bulbs turn red. Once the mail is in, I say "Hey Google, Go Postal", and the bulbs reset back to white. How cool is that? Just like the Man From U.N.C.L.E. does. (ask an old person what that is.)
@@SpaceStrike The distance is about 15m or just under 50 feet between the sensor and the bridge that the sensor talks to. My mailbox is plastic, so there is no signal attenuation. When I tested it a couple years ago, the range extended to across the street. I've had this going for a couple years now, with only having to change the battery now and again and rebooting the camera with hub mostly after updates. I did attach the sensor with hook & loop material as I wasn't happy with the silicon rubber sealant that I first tried. Makes it easier to change the battery. Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
@@SpaceStrike The metal mailbox is likely the problem. You can test your sensors by holding them and varying the distance. I also wonder if the metal would interfere with the magnetic sensor? It looks like Wyze has some new sensors, but they might be tied to a subscription. If they become available otherwise, I may change, but then again, mine aren't broken.
Trying to figure it what LED lights I should get for my dorm, I am looking for a cheap option but also want it to be smart. Is this too much to ask for?
I had the exact same problem with the nanoleaf light panels connection. I had a static IP on my local network for the nanoleafs and now I have no more trouble :) I tried with the essentials light strip but I have trouble finding it :)
Forget the lights… where did you get that shirt?!?!?! Haha. Thanks for this vid. Doing something research on layout for 2 home offices and a living room. Lol
Like the nano leafs 😍 Just wondering about the (not so smart for todays standarts anymore) sountouch10 in the corner 😅 Oh moment I also have some of them around 🙈
Every time I watch one of your videos, my list of things to do in my own home gets longer. And more expensive. Seriously, thanks for the great content.
Any chance you can review any smart outdoor lighting for the holidays? Maybe Christmas lights or smart holiday decor? Just bought a new house and wanted to see what might be available for the season this year.
Look at his CES video. He showed some really cool RGB lights that are made for holidays. They are a bit pricey but they are cool. I believe they are called Twinkly.
As always Great information and inspiration. I have a question regarding smart bulbs. I'd like to add smart bulbs to my ceiling fans. Problem is that the bulbs are just a little to large. The bulbs I have tried are the WLPA19 Smart Wyze Bulbs. Can you recommend a smaller bulb or maybe even an alternative ideas. Thank You!
Maybe put a light strip around the room. There might also be generic brands that make cheap smaller bulbs. They may lack features though. Or you can have the Wyze bulbs in lamps for accent lighting
I've always wanted to have those channel LED in the corner as you've shown, but I never liked the "dotted" style they show. Is that only on camera? When you're looking at it, is the led separation (as in, you can see each one of them) less noticeable?
Question for you I know you review all kinds of devices different manufactures, but why not stick with what you like for your office why mix so much, so many different echo systems that dont always play well together? You are using Govee then Nano Leaf??
Hmmm it’s still working on my end. What country are you living in? Sometimes Amazon links can have issues when it converts the link for outside the USA.
@@Mitorah You might have to visit the US site. I looked on the UK site and could not find these bulbs. You're looking for the Feit Electric ST2160. The ST19 bulbs look pretty cool, too. (I don't own either but wanted to mention where to find them.)
When you came in the room and the strip turned on blue and went up the wall sequentially is that a function that can be set in the Govee app? the sequential part im sure it was triggered by motion
I've been tempted to use the govee light strips on a switched outlet I have, but I see complaints that they go through the rainbow of colors each time the power is restored... Do you know which light strips don't do that? I just want them to go to the last used setting
How could I figure out a routine for my apartment that has a motion sensor but it keeps triggering my lights on when I want them off if I voice command them off? Thanks Great video
For what you want, it sounds like you need a motion sensor, and a smart switch. With Alexa you can set the motion to trigger the switch. Alexa would also be able to control the switch by voice, AND you should be able to toggle the switch too if you wanted. Just make sure you buy a smart switch, and NOT a device that goes over the current toggle if you have more than one switch for the same light. Smart switches are smarter. Devices that cover a current toggle can connect to Alexa, but are too dumb to know if you toggle them by hand if you have more than one switch for the same light. Your looking to spend about 20 for a good motion sensor, and about 40 for a basic smart switch without going too cheap. Hope that helps.
@@jester4761 I have the motion sensor and it turns on the lights but often times I then turn them off with my voice and I get up and walk they come back on. So I need almost an If lights turn off by voice don’t trigger motion sensor for an hour or something like tjat
@@Alex-ni6qk ok. I see what you mean. When creating the routine you absolutely can set a time frame. You could set the motion to turn them on. Then create another routine that turns the light off after 5 minutes of no motion. You could even set them to be on with motion, dim after 5, and then off at 10. Basically you need two routines. One for on with motion, and one for off with no motion after a time frame.
@@jester4761 I have a routine that does exactly this in my and my husband's offices. It works well for that purpose but that's not what @Alex is looking for. What he's describing is, say, walking into the living room and having the motion sensor turn on the lights. He then settles in to watch a movie and verbally turns them off. He wants them to stay off, but if he moves, it triggers the sensor and the lights come back on. I'm not heavy on routines, so I can't help much, but maybe someone else around here can?
But are LIFX and Wyze overdriving their LEDs by running them at their max output, if so that’s why your seeing a difference but you’d also get much shorter life than the Hue. I’m going to get that’s it. I’ve had other brands fail but never a Hue.
With the price difference between wyze and hue, is lifespan really a factor? While the wyze is a nice bulb it is very slow to respond. Not ideal as a primary light source when using motion or contact sensors.
I've had 2 Hue white bulbs fail on me with only about a month and a half of use, and only running at about 10% brightness (used in a ceiling fan light fixture above my desk for work). Luckily, getting them replaced was fairly easy though the warranty process. So far my Wyze color bulbs are working great.
@@ufninuyasha every product has bad ones. Sorry you found a couple. In general though most people do say they last well and that’s been my experience too. Hope the new ones are much better.
@@dnoland77 price is always brought up with Hue and yes they are more expensive, look for offers and Amazon deals, that’s the best time to get them if your not in a rush. I would grudge the extra if I felt I wasn’t gaining anything but I feel I am. That said I do have a few TP-Link and Innr as well.
I’m having some issues sharing Spotify music across multiple Google devices, I just want to mirror the sound, but it always says ‘your spotify account is in use elsewhere’... please help!
@@SmartHomeSolver how many devices do you have on your wifi network? I've been moving more and more devices to zigbee and z-wave to reduce the number of devices on my wifi router.
I need to look into that. It’s a weird button though because it doesn’t “click” down. It’s like pressing on a screen so I’m not sure if it would change it. I’ll have to try it out.
She's just getting started with midi keyboards so it's her beginner one! And here's the link to the floating bulb, sorry I forgot to put in the description: amzn.to/3npQIjo
thanks for the link :) i bet my grandson will love that thing. and it's a pretty decent lookin beginner keyboard. the 4 octaves might be a little limiting, and it'll be difficult to play softly. but it's a good start.
I'm sure everyone eats up this RGB garbage, but can you talk about high quality white lights with warm dim that you actually use for your main house. Light strips opposed to bulbs. There aren't any good reviews/recommendations at all other than for under cabinet lighting.
