I've used both but I'm enjoying the overall camera system on the S23Ultra. The zoom is what really wins me over. Watching my kids play soccer, track, and basketball..the zoom comes in clutch! 4k at 10x optical zoom is unmatched! Also I love all the other options, really liking the 50mp mode, seems to be the best of both worlds.

This is why I love your videos also about smartphones: The photographer perspective and not the usual Tech RU-vidr perspective. I'm a photography and tech geek and use the 14 pro, but sold my S22 Ultra and I also like the Pixel 7 Pro I've used for 6 months. I like these phones for different reasons. In the end I have the most fun with my Xperia 5 IV as daily driver and to take photos (with a real shutter button *love it*) and making videos on it. The processing is so much more natural and I have all the controls in my hand and even in the "BASIC" mode, you can still point & shoot if needed in a hurry and the post-processing is doing it with less magic compared to the Samsung/Apple/Google devices, but they catching up with every generation but still keeping it more natural look. On the Pixel, iPhone and the S22/23 ultra it is boring over time. Just press the shutter button on those devices and the post-processing is doing the magic...and many times with overprocessing and too social media oriented. Not bad in certain situations, but like I said: BORING :) Keep your great work and your amazing chemistry :)

With 4x4 pixel binning, it's not clear how much value you'd get out of the Samsung 200-megapixel raw file. In my tests I saw no real resolution improvement over 50MP shots. Samsung uses AI to interpolate the RGB color values for each pixel in those 16-pixel patches, so there's a lot of processing even before the demosaicing and oversharpening and oversaturation. But yes, I still wish I could pixel peep all the way at the 200MP raw files. I also agree about the overprocessed Samsung raw. One big difference for me: Apple lets you take raw photos with all its cameras, not just the main, wide-angle camera. The telephoto cameras on the S23U would be better if you weren't locked to HEIC/JPEG formats.

Ive been ok the Samsung ultra Bandcamp ever since jumping ship from my Lumia 950 as windows phone apps started shutting down. The S23 Ultra has delivered my best ever results from a phone camera. Granted, I use the zoom lenses way more than the 200mp mode.

Finally The first video on the whole of RU-vid that I will actually trust as I know you know everything there is to know about cameras. The 200mp and 8K is a gimmick. The 8k video looks very crisp yes, but it’s full of imperfections when blown up onto a full sized TV, and that 200mp sensor is also a gimmick. With that little lens you’d be lucky to show 20mp worth of resolution. A 30mp 5D mkiv DSLR would walk all over it in image quality and technically has over 6 times less mega pixels. I use my iPhone for its simplicity and unbeatable video quality, then if I want to take the best photos, I’ll use my DSLR. The iPhone takes photos I cannot argue with for a phone. Obviously the Samsung has better zoom capability past 10X, as it has a dedicated lens. However up until 10X which is a more useable focal length the iPhone takes the better shots. The 48mp on the iPhone is also far more useable in 90% of scenarios than the 200mp of the Samsung.

ExpertRAW is more like a more flexible Auto mode. Pro mode allows you to take true RAW bayer snaps that not only are truer to what the sensor is capturing initially but also more flexible. I much prefer it to both ProRAW and ExpertRAW. It would be nice if you could compare those.

I have to interject my experience with my new G23 Ultra, vs my Note 10+ camera. 1. Yes, its sharper, but slightly over sharpened. 2. The colors are so over saturated in the G23, that if you have a blue sky with bright greenery, the colors become almost fluorescent, and quite hilarious. You would need to take the same pic on the note 10+ and edit the pic with +35 saturation boost to achieve the G23 result. Just the other day I was video calling mom with Google Meet, and she looked so red in the face she looked like one of the 7 dwarfs. She wasn't very happy, rather grumpy when I told her. In all other regards the G23U smokes the Note 10+ camera.

I have the iPhone 14 Pro, and I'm curious how it compares to an old DSLR, say the Canon 5D with 24-70mm lens? Have modern sensors and computational photography in the iPhone 14 Pro allowed it to surpass old DSLRs? It's definitely much easier to take a smartphone hiking and out and about compared to a DSLR. Totally apples to oranges comparison, but it's something I've wondered about.

My daughter has the iPhone 13 pro, not sure if the camera is the same as in the 14, but I guess it probably is and both my Nikon DSLRS blitz it for photo quality. Once you get the photos onto a big screen you will see the difference, especially in the detail and colours. Close ups not as big difference but still there is a difference, but if you are zooming or using in low light the DSLRS are way ahead. Doesn't mean to say the iPhone is not a good substitute for a DSLR as for simply sharing on social media or if you are just doing some close up photography or general landscape photography it will be more than suitable. If you are serious about wanting to get the best shots that you can without having to spend time doing lots of editing after then DSLR all the way. Depends what you want from your photography and how you wish to show off your photos. But nowadays for most average users any smartphone will take more than satisfactory photos, except when it comes to zooming in on objects a long way off, especially wildlife they are not even close to say a DSLR with a long zoom lens attached to it. I know I have a 600mm lens exactly for the purpose of capturing wildlife clearly even from a long way off.
@RedRage2697
@RedRage2697 Год назад
At face value a phone photo will look good, but the detail will never be as good as a DSLR simply because of sensor size. If you are looking to print your photos, I would use a DSLR. Otherwise, a phone camera will do just fine for most uses. I have an Instagram where I post my pictures for my friends to see, and they can never tell which ones are taken with my phone or my DSLR (Canon 90D)

Even 48 Megapixels is overkill. Sure you might get a sharp image, but at the end of the day the camera sensor is still small and the lenses are subpar( vs high end camera lenses) so you can't create the same natural look and Bookah you could from say an old Fuji 16mp X-T10 + Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 lens

Had both and returned the s23 ultra. I felt the s23 ultra is by FAR a better standalone device overall but like you stated, ecosystem. As far as cameras, I felt the s23 ultra to be more versatile and fun to shoot with and the IPhone was more consistent in the results. The shutter “lag” on the s23 ultra also posed a problem with moving subjects, creating soft and sometimes blurry results. Camera is really important to me and with the consistent and more reliable results, I chose iPhone. I REALLY wish the iPhone had 10x optical!

Personally I use my iPhone 14 Pro Max camera generally for close to midrange photos in daily life - pics of friends, interesting things nearby, maybe sunsets, etc. I don't generally use it for photos really far away that would require the longer lens. It would be epic to have of course - don't get me wrong. I have a Sony A1 that gets used when I'm serious about taking a photo - but obviously that isn't with me every time I'm out like the phone is. The iPhone and its user Apple interface is pretty satisfying for what a phone camera gets used for in my daily life - I am excited to have the RAW photo option and higher megapixels. Having had every iPhone since the beginning I can honestly say they are now approaching a satisfying image compared to a few years back. I have to say I'm pretty satisfied with the 4K 60p video on the iPhone 14 as well. 8K will be a game changer in my opinion on the next versions - especially since you can take still frames from 8K that are very acceptable (at least on my other cameras). I totally love your reviews and vids! Your channel is the one I go to first for reviews. Very well done and informative - and done with style and flair. I've learned SO much from you both. BTW you both get BETTER LOOKING every year... Maybe you should do a review of your anti-aging regimes. NOW if I can get my new iPhone 14 Pro Max to quit randomly restarting throughout the day I might be totally satisfied with it...

I was glad that iPhones were finally going to switch over to USB-C this year. I get that they were being forced to by the EU, but it was about time. But then it turns out that Apple decided to 'Apple it Up' and have made it so that you need to have specific Apple cables in order to use the USB-C. And on top of that, it's no faster than Lightning Cable was. It uses USB 2.0 speeds. Kind of tired of Apple screwing over people for the sake of it. As far as the phone cameras go, I don't really care too much. I agree the megapixel counts are marketing and as long as they can get the shot, great. But I only ever use my phone camera to take pics of things like small print so that I can embiggen the letters and read them. Or maybe scan a QR Code. If I want to take pics, I'm using my Sony A7iv to do it.

I do wish it was built into the phone like with the iPhones. Some of the aftermarket ones for Samsung S22/S23 Ultra interfere with the S Pen. I've got a Pitaka MagEZ case for my S22 Ultra which is the only one I could find specifically advertised to not interfere with the S Pen. But I would love to have a grip, kickstand and lanyard attachment built into my case, however having magnetic mounting was the most important case feature for me so I went with the Pitaka. If the magnetic mounting was built into the phone, I could put whatever outer case I wanted on the phone and still have the magnetic attachment. I suppose you can just put a metal plate between the phone and your case of choice, and that would still mount to magnetic accessories but have the benefit of not interfering with the S Pen. However it's not going to work as well as a dedicated MagSafe or MagSafe-compatabile array in the phone as that gives a stronger attraction and aligns everything properly. The MagSafe array in my Pitaka case is just about strong enough on its own to hold the phone to a fridge!

I have the Samsung S23 Ultra, and well the camera I find is awesome...great to see the improvements where it counts...this phone is noticeably faster than even the S22 Ultra. This being said I also have a fujifilmX-T2; hopefully soon to upgrade, so when I want to take some more controllable shots that is what I use. I do get a good amount of use from the telephoto lens on this phone and it really should be an option on flagship phones. There are times when the full 200 MP option is nice, Id say try taking a picture in a studio setup with all equipment and review to see if there is really a difference, someone below mentioned that this sharpening is only baked into the expert raw app. Maybe follow his suggestion of using the basic camera raw setting. Last thing to consider is, as this is a new sensor on a new phone there will be tweaking and fixes in upcoming updates. Iphone had the same issues when they firstly introduced the 48MP sensor. All in all I have this phone, my wife has the Iphone 14 pro and we get similar results when taking pics anytime, there are colour differences of course but they are down to personal preferences. Airdrop is nice to have, but honestly there are other ways to send people a pic or video wirelessly on any platform. I like to just connect my phone to my computer; Mac or PC via cable and have just full access to the phone memory.

I have a S22 Ultra and I would love the Apple ecosystem and how easy it is to interact with other users but I don't want to be completely locked into it either. The Airtag has a much bigger user base in case it gets lost compared to the Galaxy Smart Tag for instance, but I do like that you can press the button on the Smart Tag to ring your phone. If I lived in a big city in the US, I feel like owning an iPhone would make your life a lot easier considering how many people use them around here.

Huge disappointment on this comparison, unprofessional (or biased?) 1. On 200MP test part, which mainly focused on low light/indoor complex light situation, which is not a tiny 200MP sensor designed for. If not a scene with bright light and objects with details, how can you tell if there's more details or just sharpening? Also, Samsung can choose less sharpening in Camera Assistant. 2. At 2:38, claimed adding details without proof that there's no that details is misleading. 3. Clearly using Expert RAW at 5:25, which Samsung told you is a processed. It has the REAL RAW in Pro mode! BTW, Expert RAW also has a lot of options to play with if you want. 4. Close up shot, personal preference, S23 U win for me. 5. At 9:30, iPhone seems a little smoother, but is it running by the same person at same time? Also iPhone footage blow out all the highlights on the concretes and beach. I enjoy the way of your discussion style though. Hopefully the know better about your phone and compare it in a more control variable method way next time.

Everytime a listen "iOS is easier..." or "Android is easier" it comes from people who don't use the other OS often. Of course it is easier to use the one you know!, same as if you give an iOS device to an Android user he will equally struggle to get things done. But the fact is that both OS are very easy to use, to share pictures and everything else, but specially the OS that you use every day. The only difference is that iOS makes you slave of one manufacturer forcing you to buy highly overpriced devices, while Android does not. All the key parts of an iPhone devices are manufactured by Samsung, LG, Sony, and TSMC (display, battery, RAM, storage, camera, and CPU ...) but when they are rebranded as "Apple" you have to pay double for them.

I HATE apple for reasons that would take 789457092347509382475 years to fully cover. But I HATE everything else even more. It's a weird kind of monopoly situation. As far as apple is concerned, they lock you into their ecosystem just as you say in this video and even though there are lots of other choices, you have to give up WAY too much to switch to any of them so they totally own you. The same is basically true of the other options too. Even if you argue that the other options don't lock you in with a really useful ecosystem so they're not as guilty as apple, they DON'T have an equivalently great ecosystem ! So you're FORCED to either give up things like a good camera or give up things like a good ecosystem. And who is going to own and use both simultaneously ? So either way, you have to make a choice and then you're stuck with whatever options (or lack of options like apples crappy camera) they decide to cram down your throat. Totally sucks.

They are giving you that, and it improves with every generation. Its just that no one algorithm is going to please everyone. That's what you're seeing here. These smartphone cameras are for those that don't want to do-it-yourself. They're designed with the common shooter in mind that just wants good results straight out of the camera. All these types want to do is to compose and press play. Although there's nothing preventing them from having a true RAW mode without their generic recipe for the more seasoned crowd. Some apps such as FILMic Pro, do a better job with this.

From what I've seen I think the s23 Ultra is better on some levels but I never bought into the 200mp part - that's a marketing ploy IMO. I’m not even tempted to switch back 😂… and I switched from android from just 2021… the ecosystem is that good and changed my perspective of these mobile devices being of more a tool than a toy, content consumption and communication device that also takes great pictures 🤷🏾‍♂️. But can’t wait to see what these phone companies do with these computational photography tricks in the future… they’re definitely not there yet, but fairly close to making your smartphone the camera you need for most situations… especially since they’re so small and portable.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure a lot of people have gotten used to the "misconception" that only Apple does certain things. That hasn't been the case for at least 3 years. Android, well at least Samsung, has provided equivalent iPhone functionality in many ways. They didn't acknowledge phone link that allows you to use your phone on Windows to message, make calls, run any app, or move files. It's the equivalent of air drop and more for Android/Windows users. It's getting old that reviewers don't do their due diligence to actually see what Android has to offer and goes off of assumptions from 5+ years ago than no longer apply.

First of, you can get magsafe for the S23 Ultra. There's several covers for the phone with built in magsafe. So just get one of those and you got magsafe too. As far as the baked in noise cancellation and sharpening, I totally agree. I don't want that. Or at least I want to be able to shoot without it when ever I need that. So I totally agree with you there. Got the S23 Ultra. And yes, the 200MP isn't close to actual 200MP of details. To be honest the 50MP isn't close to 50MP either. But most of that is due to the dang noise cancellation and sharpening processing. But for digital use, it's actually pretty good. But you don't want to be pixel peeping, or printing very large prints. Still it beats the iPhone though.
