Best Snow Chains For Your TESLA (Does the AUTOSOCK Work?)

So we all know how chains work when you're in the snow. However, tire chains are pain to put on and it can also damage your suspension and your rims. There's got to be an EASIER way! I got my hands on the autosock, a DOT approved traction device, as well as this amazon one to see if these bad boys actually work!
Autosock is the ONLY alternative traction device approved in the USA in all 50 states aside from chains. I recommend purchasing the auto sock as well as the aftermarket one if you are going to be in some heavy snow!

Thanks for the video. Do the chains you linked scratch the rim? I have the 20” tires. Do these fit it?

Please don’t be that guy driving around with snow on your roof… it’s either going to fall off and make it dangerous for the car behind you or slide forward when you stop and blind you. It takes far less time than it does to shovel the driveway and if you had just put on the cross climate 2’s as someone else mentioned you’d get through that driveway no problem.

The recommendation of putting the added traction on the rear tires is for when you drive up an incline, not reversing. Most of the weight shift is in the rear driving up the incline and in the front when reversing up.

Any idea how long will be last for those snow socks??
@thedownwardmachine
@thedownwardmachine 7 месяцев назад
Going uphill in reverse is the least likely thing I will do in the snow, so it’s a weird test. As other commenters have noted, most of the weight and therefore traction will be on the downhill tires, which probably explains your test results more than anything about the traction devices.
@Budooby
@Budooby Год назад
So AWD does have ability to independently control power to each tire, 4WD just gives equal power to all 4 tires all the time. Essentially when you turn on slip start, that’s pretty close to 4WD.

You may want to try Michelin Cross Climate 2's as your next tire purchase. Much better in the rain and snow than the Pilot All Season tires,

Fantastic video. I have a model X and planning a trip to Tahoe. I have the K&K tires for the rear (based on size) and the Autosock 697 for the front (would need the 698 for the rear and they were out of stock). Would it make sense to follow the following sequence - light snow: K&K in the rear; heavy snow: K&K in the rear and Autosock on the front?

Hello, and thank you for this demonstration. I'm particularly interested because you are the only one who dared to put socks on the front wheels while it is not recommended by Tesla, because of the proximity of some mechanical parts and brake hoses Would you nevertheless recommend socks on the front wheels for more safety or would you follow Tesla's recommendations ?

“No traction” with just the Pilot Sport AS4?!! I just got back from my second Tahoe winter trip and mine were amazing as-is. From riding on several feet of consolidated snow to up to six inches of fresh powder on top, I was stopping and turning just fine. Never got stuck either. [shrug]

Have you thought about trying the Michelin Easy grip or easy grip Evo? They go on like a snow sock but are more like a composite chain. I’ve used them for 8 years now and always keep a set in the car at winter now.
@lindastroud2364

I like the look of the easy grip. What size do you use? I am not sure they make the correct size for the y 20”.
@WEZ4136
@WEZ4136 5 месяцев назад
@@lindastroud2364 the EVO 16 can do 255/45/R20 and 275/40/R20, and the EVO 19 can do 195/55/R20. I have the EVO 12, as I had an X1 BMW with 18” wheels on, now I have a new Ford Kuga with 19” wheels so I’ll have to get around to checking if they fit or if I need to buy some new ones.
@lindastroud2364

Thanks for your quick reply. I have a 255/40/r20. Do you think the evo 16 will fit?
@WEZ4136
@WEZ4136 5 месяцев назад
@@lindastroud2364 I think it will depend on what space is around the wheel, like if any of the suspension, brake lines or drop links are too close it could be an issue and catch which would cause damage. I’ve got the opposite problem, I estimate I could be about 5 mm too small to fit my newer bigger wheels on the new car, but I’m thinking they do have a bit of play say maybe the ones I have could hopefully work. If not I am tempted to try some of the other ones on the market, just not many of them available in GB 🇬🇧 which I find odd

The autosock is better than the K&K bc that outer mesh prevents it from coming off the tire on the inside of the tire. Snow socks are a must in these conditions IMO.
