Love the speaker shootouts where you A/B speakers in a group that you reviewed individually before. And usually each had a positive review when reviewed by itself. This format illustrates how good speakers differ and is much more informative for someone looking to buy a speaker in a given price range. Plus one for spanking Kef and Klipsch on their pricing schemes. Finally love the "get'em while you still can" spots that give folks a shot at more speaker for their money. Great service

Man I am so pleased to see this channel growing. It's totally deserved. Also, I wish I saw this just before I bought my 600Ms a couple months ago. I'm totally happy with them btw, but this does kind of confirm my concerns with them. Luckily I'm using them for fronts in my theatre setup so there's plenty of power going through these things. I'd be looking at making a change if I had them just in a 2.1 setup, though.

This is fantastic and so useful in letting each person weigh the traits of each speaker as a match for their priorities. The one thing that I'd also like to have is impressions of how each speaker is when it comes to placement. Yes, a tough and time consuming thing to do with 5 speakers in the test. Some people have less flexibility than others. "Behaves well with side walls" is a priority for me. Edit: I see placement comments in the single speaker reviews of the speakers here.

Great shootout! I have had my Wharfedale Diamond 12.2’s for about a year now, and I loved ‘em from day one. I scored an open box deal for $250 (I’m about 95% sure that was the price). So a great deal. I was looking for a non-fatiguing solution and these were the ticket. I bought the matching wharfedale stands which were nothing special but look nice. Paired with my Yamaha AS-501 integrated amp. turned out to be a decent pairing. In the last year I’ve fed them a steady diet of everything I own from Yo-Yo Ma to Megadeth and they do a nice job with every genre. In a 14x15 room about a foot from the wall. I would have gladly paid full retail them and still been happy. I care less about this aspect, but they are nice looking speakers. The grills I’m not crazy about and leave them off. Technically the grills are fine, just can’t think of anything else to complain about. They were open box, but they were flawless.

Great Review. I just got the KEF Q350 and I'd generally agree with your comments. As you pointed out its less efficient and it just seemed to require more volume to come alive. Thought the bass was a tad boomy but overall deeper than you'd expect. I think the KEF probably requires a solid amp with some good control of the bass. I much preferred my Ascend Acoustics Sierra and returned the KEF. The Sierra doesn't have quite the soundstage but otherwise just sounded like a more natural and live presentation. I'll definitely try the Warfedale's when I build my second system

I believe there is real honesty and competency in your listening and comparative analysis abilities. Over 90% of the ausio review channels cannot differentiate between quality and flawed sound. The German Engineer who redesigned Wharfedale's entire Diamond 12 series, has a speciality in cabinet dampening. Hence, the results speak for themselves. Vastly underrated and overlooked speaker that is more than competitive than nearly all to a $1000 threshold.

All of these can be demo'd at the Magnolia store in Best Buy (except the Jamo's). I was all set to pull the trigger on the Q 350's, until I heard the B & W 606's (much better, but 200 bucks more) which had me rethink my choice. So I saved my pennies and purchased the Axiom Audio M3's with matching center for about $700.00 shipped. Point being save up a few bucks and you will have more options if you need them.

I've seen your reviews on the Uni-fi 2.0 and Diamond 12.2. Regardless of price and other qualities, which of the two do you think has better imaging and soundstage? Or are they comparable in that regard? From your review I understand that the detail is probably better on the Elac, though they are more expensive here. Quite a bit too.

LOVE your attitude, your nonchalance, and products tested. BIG thumbs up! Would it be reasonable to ask for a review someday with these speakers used with a pair of subs? Relieving them of low bass duty opens up their soundstage abilities. I've got Triangle Borea BR03s, matched to a pair of SVS SB-2000s, and it sends the imaging into orbit. Also, could you maybe do an imaging test using one of the "patented New Record Day Imaging Hacks", in this case being 45-degree-ish toe-in, with right speaker aimed at left listening position, and left aimed at right (on a three-listening-position sofa). That single hack has infinitely increased my soundstage and my listening enjoyment. All that said, I flat-out loved this review! p.s. You got another sub! Another one of us crazy, Hi-Fi addicted, gun-toting, speaker loving Texans!

@theoriginalcraig
@theoriginalcraig 3 года назад
@@cheapaudioman Thanks for the reply! I totally agree. I DO like seeing and rating what all the speakers do on their own. Sometimes, a sub isn't totally necessary, but if you have a superfast sub, the difference is hard to believe. Steve Guttenberg made a good point that subs not only fill in the lower octaves, but they also capture the acoustics of the room and the echoes and the total presence of the place where it was recorded, especially when it's recorded in a venue like a church or concert hall. Also, when relieved of low-bass duty, your amplifier(s) can really concentrate on sending the cleanest mids and highs possible. I recently switched over from Marantz monoblocks at a genuine 125 watts/8 ohms 200 watts/4 ohms rating, to a Nelson Pass amp with 15 watts...and it is a REVELATION. I can't recommend them highly enough. Simply put, they sound EXACTLY like tube amps. I had the choice between a First Watt F5 and a pair of hot-rodded custom-built Nelson Pass Amp Camp amps, and I chose to go with the upgraded Amp Camp amps. They're 95% of the sound, can be played WAY louder than you'd EVER believe, and they're one FOURTH the price. Nelson Pass (very accurately) tells you ahead of time that their only real quirk is that they require a TON of input gain, then they absolutely blow your mind. Find a reputable, established amp building specialist who specializes in Amp Camp amps, and audition one. Actually audition a pair, bridged mono. In stereo, they're 8 watts, but even then, if you've got really efficient speakers (93 dB and higher...Magnepans need not apply for the job), then even 8 watts will utterly blow you away. My amp builder played ONE amp camp amp as a demo for me. In stereo. 8 watts. Driving his Klipsch Cornwall 3s, and it sounds AMAZING. Obviously, the bass isn't thunderous, but add a sub, and you're golden. 8 watts isn't much, but in a Class A configuration, it does WAY more than you'd believe. 15 watts in Class A (crossed over at 80 Hz and paired with a sub) is enough to do nearly anything you'll need, but might not play quiiiiiite loudly enough for your neighbors to call the cops. Then again, if you live in an apartment, it'll definitely get the cops called out! Anyway, try it out sometime, and keep up the great work. If you need the name of a well-known builder with a superlative reputation, I could put you in touch. Keep up the great work, sir!

I love watching your reviews! What would you recommend for close proximity listening (ie using speakers with PC, where you work and listen to music all day)? I read that its very important that tweeter and woofer are close together if you listen up close and that metal tweeters can be too harsh for close proximity listening. I would add a subwoofer for lower frequencies and also use two for surrounds when watching movies. Any recommendations? Thanks! (Currently I use Klipsch RP160M but they are waaaay to bright for 80cm listening distance and cause me very quick fatigue and beeping in ears even at normal volumes)

Nice comparison ! Would be interesting to see the Dynaudio Emit M20 thrown in this mix. Nice bookshelf speaker in the $500 - $600 range but hardly anything on RU-vid on these. Not sure how hard there to get in the states though.

Great comparison video! I purchased the RP-600M's about a month ago and even if they didn't fare the best against this competition, they still sound better than anything in the rest of my house. My dad's old Pioneer receiver is in need of servicing, so I'm saving up for the TA-100.

Great video! Just got done watching your review on the ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 and I'm curious where you think they lie with these speakers in this video? I am looking to add a couple bookshelfs to replace my current rear surrounds. Your videos are helping me narrow that list!

Recently I have bought amp Onkyo-A9150 and KEF Q350. Played very well together but I have listen to this review and thought that I can try Wharefedale 12.2 and compare them. So I have ordered them also. Both played well but something was still missing to me. I couldn't feel the greatness. Fortunately my new jack-2xRCA cable arrived (nothing expansive) and after replacing them the real 'magic' began (source was my old LG G6). Speakers started to sound amazing. W12.2 are much brighter, Q350 much warmer. After couple of days of listening to various music that's my general conclusions: Q350 are louder at the same volume, W12.2 lacks bass until I used amp corrector significantly. I also use CD as a source and the sound from both speakers was just great, much much better comparing to other sources . Bottom line: to me listening to Q350 was WOW vs W12.2 I LIKE IT. At the end Q350 stayed. Remarks: use all these online reviews as a guide, not something granted. The best way is to listen for yourself and decide :)

Love your reviews, I only recently found you. Great reviews, I have had Kef q150's which i totally enjoyed for the last year, took them about 5 months to say hello, but were missing a bit of depth, so, Kef Q350's were on sale so now i have them on 28 " sanus hardwood stands 30 " to the front plinth, they are still breaking in.....They are both fantastic, the 150 pings higher piano notes, the 350 gives me the lower resonances which i love, Have been using them with an older yamaha rx797 which is no slouch and for me in an 800sq ft apt in canada they are fantastic!

Interesting comparison; thanks for the video. One other comparison could be the forgiveness of the placement. I am not sure how much more work it would add, but it can be a decision making factor for some.

I have individual videos on each of the speakers when I talk about different placements. for these they all go in the same spot with the same toe in etc to eliminate as much variability as I can. With this many speakers it's really tough to run through a lot of different scenarios. when I do these I actually listen and do the test with all of them in one sitting. i don't want to just talk about generalities of a speakers characteristics from memory so it can get tough

Another great video Randy. If you want something new to listen to, I use this track for the Piano and 3 min in to see how hard the bass hits which is also great to see how much impact a sub has. Coleen D'agostino, Deadmau5 - Stay (Drop the Poptart Edit)

Klipsch pricing is absolutely ridiculous. Tried to buy used, $600, too high. Found some refurb on Amazon for $459. New on Amazon, $630, I ended up calling a local shop and they had pre-black Friday sale for $359!!! Great review. Thank you!

@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 года назад
Albert. I agree that it does sound great. At $400 I think it's about $100 too expensive for what it is. All of these with maybe the exception of the Jamo's are much better speakers than the PSB and built significantly better. They do sound great though but with the Elac debut 5.2's regularly going on sale for $200 I don't think the Alphas have the value proposition as many other speakers.

Thank you Randy. I subscribe to a couple of other channels. You can probably guess at least one of them. I find them frustrating. THIS, is the way I want to see reviews. I may have found you late but I am a sudden fan. I love the checklist routine you use in your other videos. I had a feeling about what you would ultimately prefer from the beginning because you describe the sound signatures and what you like about them the same way I feel when I audition speakers. Realism over extracted detail and absolute separation though both are important. I don't want to focus on the "wow did you hear that before" as much as enjoy the full spirit of the music the way that the artist and mix was intended. I never want the frustration of feeling that part of the music is not represented at all or poorly so. "Heft" at all levels, I knew exactly what you meant. Now, as a U.S. citizen living in NZ, I can't get my hands on the Wharfedale 12.2 yet. Will try to wangle a pair somehow. Cheers to your method.

Randy, the other night at work I felt something weird in my manly nether regions but as I was busy I didn't think much of it until I got home and saw blood in the crotch of my jeans but I was really busy at home as well doing chores and since it didn't hurt I carried on. Well, there was blood the next night and when I saw blood the third time while at work I decided to go to the medical clinic where the doctor examined me and said it was just chafing between my upper thighs due to my psoriasis so I was thankful it was nothing serious but afterwards I thought of that great line from Jesse Ventura and how I could actually relate to it
