Hi Steve (and everyone else following this amazing channel)! I would love to hear a bit more about how the 12.2s compare with the Bronze 100s. I'm torn between the two (in my region 12.2s go for €375 - Bronze 100s for €450), and no place to directly compare them here up North at the Arctic Circle. :) Thanks and keep up the fine work, sir!

Posted this on another channel hope it helps folks out: i just bought a 12.2 and love it! Thats a huge compliment as my current stable has Kef LS50, Focal chora 816, sonus faber cremona auditor. All at far higher price points. I bought it because it can give me something my other speakers cannot. A warm and relaxed sound that is tonally well balanced and not too exagerated. Sure it can’t match the accuracy and speed of my other speakers but the warm sound can keep me in bliss and listen far longer (and fall asleep on the sofa). What suprised me the most is that the sacrifices in speed, accuracy and top end air is fairly small so am really pleasantly suprised how good budget speakers are these days!.

I have a pair of 12.2s, Elac Debut 2.0 6.2's on the cheaper flank, and a pair of Polk R200's on the higher end all lined up in my listening room right now. The clock is ticking on which ones to keep vs. return. When I am almost ready to send back the Wharfedales, I hear a track with which these speakers truly shine. Percussion. Synth. Acoustic Guitar. Piano. Bass. Male Voices. It comes down to this for me: It's a very special speaker for rhythmic music, country music and male acoustic music. It excels at reproducing TV and soundtracks. Not airy enough on the high end for jazz or classical for my tastes. It sounds "limited" in the 8k+ range, in the electronic sense. But when bombs are dropping or Law And Order is going "duh-dung", the 12.2s are in their zone. I think I'll keep them.

If you listen to much youtube music FX sound is a subscription service that uncompresses the youtube music. I tested all the different sound enhancers out there and this was the best. I had a lifetime license but I moved to the subscription version. Light processing is the best setting. As most of you know there is no better service than youtube for "live" recordings. I have been to at least 250 concerts dating back to 1966. I saw almost everyone. I saw Cream I passed up "Band of Gypsy's at the Fillmore East. due to a snowstorm on New Year's day in NYC. I was at the closing weekend at the Fillmore with the Allman's and I saw Led Zeppelin's second tour of the U.S at the Singer Bowl. To me live music is the magic.

Satie is a tricky customer, so to speak, as far as piano sound is concerned. I wasn't very impressed with the sound of the Rogé either. Even worse (more thin & "clangy") were Aldo Ciccolini's 1980s recordings. Klara Körmendi on Naxos, otoh, had a disastrously thick and over-warm sound that just doesn't suit Satie at all. Didn't help that she had zero feeling for the music and sounded bored throughout, either. Best I've heard for Satie are Ciccolini's 1960s recordings (now hard to find, sadly), Frank Glazer's 60s recordings and Peter Lawson, who sadly only recorded one album's worth of Satie, but it's very good.

Great review. Im trying to decide between these and the B&Ws. I live in an apartment and I listen to mostly heavy rock, classic rock and some pop . At the moment I have a JBL extreme 2 but I hate having all the sound in one speaker and no sound stage and the sound is either full of bass and too little trebble or too much which is why I want to go back to an old school set up like I had in the 90s . I want physical volume and treble and bass knobs and speakers that can be separated and are flexible so I can turn them up when the neighbors are out and not disturb people if everyone is home. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

@GeneralCurtis3LeMay I don't really believe in the sound of "British construction". A thing is a thing, it can be assembled in Mars and it still will sound the same. The brand belongs to IAG. And measurements proof that they know what they are doing. For now I use Wharfedale 230 and I'd call them a speaker where middle frequencies are it's bread and butter. British sound is basically "good sound". Maybe also "mellow sound" cause of the well known "BBC dip".

@GeneralCurtis3LeMay Do you realize that there is such a thing as technology? I have lots of things that is made in China, a really high-tech stuff. Like optics, processors etc. It doesn't matter where stuff is made, if technologically they are made to the same tolerances and QC. I'm perfectly fine with Chinese made products, I have a problem with Chinese tyranny but that is a different story... Lots of manufacturers have Chinese factories nowadays, BW and KEF are perfect examples of high-tech mechanical stuff. And China is not what it was used to be, it's starting to be a technological pioneer, for example my Godox strobes are IMO better than European and American offerings, so are DJI drones. Even Tesla is building a plant there, and they say that Chinese engineers will make their own Teslas. Your thoughts are dated IMO.

@GeneralCurtis3LeMay I say what I think. Being friendly is not my top priority. I try not to be rude but what I'm doing on this page is not your business. You can start your own channel and then say who can speak there and who can not. I don't care about all that Soviet goodies BS, that's from another era, from a fake era by the way, and being Russian I can say that 99.99% of soviet goods were horrible with QC, they are not even close to my Wharfedales that I partly disassembled and I was amazed by how good they are made inside for that price. I've had some famous Soviet speakers and they are as bad as it gets. They sound horrible and they are ridiculously bad in terms of craftsmanship. As I've said, British sound is just an acronym kinda for a good sound basically and the famous BBC dip is part of it. Take care!

I originally got the Diamond 12.2 and it was a box of distortion and harmonics , awful speaker. I returned the 12.2 and got the EVO 4.1 and what a difference. The EVO 4.1 is light years ahead , the sound is crystal clear , the amount of clarity and details you hear are immense, the base is super deep and tight, much better than Diamond 12.2. And the looks are to die for.

It is all about what you enjoy the most.

I also saw his mentor John Fahey when he made his live at the bottom of the world gig over 40 years ago and Richard Gilewitz’s reprise of that event. I very much enjoy the American Primitive guitar style.

Wharfedale Diamond 11.2 vs 12.2 ! What are the differences in sound?
@ryousuketakahashi5038
@ryousuketakahashi5038 3 года назад
The 11.2 Sounds much better in every way [ bass extension, midrange, diamond-like highs ]. The Diamond 11.2's are more stylish than the new series and better made. The 11.2 are the best standmount speakers under 1.400 € . You won't need a subwoofer. Bass extension as low as 40 Hz, tight and deep.

Yes, very good. But if you can.. Buy the Wharfedale EVO 4.1 ... They cost a little much more but they sound DIVINE. They sound better than 3.000 or 4.000 $ speakers. Today i received mine. The EVO 4.1 are the best. When you listen to them you just feel every emotion. The same music on the evo 4.1 sound 10 times better than Diamond 11.2 . It's worth every Penny.
@rosswarren436
@rosswarren436 3 года назад
11.2 is more artificially bloated in the lower mid-bass...The 12.2 is more neutral. As others have mentioned it is like Wharfedale followed ELAC in toning down their "bloat" from the Debut to the Debut 2.0. Now, some might like that bloat. (Many have). And it might be fine in certain rooms. YMMV. As always it depends on what you like and maybe whether you are going to pair them with a dedicated sub-woofer. A coworker of mine got the 11.2 when they were on the fire sale and is using them in a small office in his house without a sub and he is very happy.

@@jonathansturm4163 My parents were Country folk. We had big gardens and a chicken coop when I was young. I remember my dad killing chickens in this fashion, and seeing their bodies flop around the yard in their death throes. My mother would boil them to facilitate removing the pin feathers while preparing them for cooking. It would always produce a terrible stench throughout the house. However, after the work to remove the feathers and cook them, they would taste very good. We then used the feathers to stuff pillowcases and make comfy pillows to sleep on. We also enjoyed fresh eggs from the laying hens. A bygone way of life, rarely seen these days.

@@HareDeLune I’m missing the farm. My neighbours up the road reduced the labour content of plucking considerably by purchasing a plucking machine from Romania on fleabay. It looks like rotating inflated rubber gloves and they borrowed my large Ryobi drill to drive it the first time they used it. You actually don’t dip the chickens into boiling water; that sets the feathers tighter. The water needs to be at about 150-170F. You can get away with lower, but the water cools off pretty quickly and you don’t want to have to keep reheating it if you are doing any number of birds. We’re fortunate here in Tasmania in having tasty free-range meat birds costing very little more than tasteless factory-birds that in truth are reject laying birds.

Steve thank you, I'm seriously considering these for a new tiny home. There's an interesting connection - they are designed by Karl-Heinze Fink who recently stepped in to finish the last job his friend Ken Ishiwata started but died before completing. This was going to be a special edition Rotel A11 and CD11 series that KI was putting heart and soul into after mysteriously parting ways with Marantz. He got as far as approving prototypes apart from some minor changes he thought they still needed. Then he died. Now the series has been named Tribute (A11 Tribute and CD11 Tribute) with a Japanese character placed on the front that translated means something like 'respect' or maybe 'reverence'. It's kind of a shame on Marantz as far as I'm concerned that after he gave them 40 years its Rotel that is honouring him this way. Anyway, I don't know if you're a big Marantz or Ishiwata fan? Can't recall any reviews on your channel but in any case I really hope you get the Rotels in for a run. This is epoch endings stuff and part of that KI legacy is that they kept it affordable, very much like these speakers.
