Most people on RU-vid say that this is a stage keyboard (which in fact it is) BUT honestly, I think it's the perfect tool for studio recording. I've been trained as a classical pianist my whole life and have been looking for a good keyboard to start recording. The problem was that none of what I searched for met my demands until I visited Sweetwater Music in For Wayne, Indiana, and discovered this one.
This keyboard has a real hammer action keys designed by Kawai, all of them are wooden made, weighted, and they just feel so realistic and robust. I can say that I enjoy playing more on this digital piano then on my acoustic Kawai grand piano. What?! Yes, that's true. Recording an acoustic piano is so complicated, so I decided to trust technology for the best sound quality possible. Kawai designed everything to make it be as similar to a grand piano including the natural overtones, (sympathetic resonance), pedal noise and hammer release noise. It also has a USB-recording interface, MP3 or WAV files, (I used WAV format for these recordings), MIDI output, triple pedal, 1/4" unbalanced and XLR balanced outputs, 1/4" inputs with Line In level fader and so much more.

Wonderful instrument however I am holding back with the purchase as I believe as Kawai might be comming with its next incarnation soon as it has been 6 years now since the release, am I right? Are you using factory presets or some external sound sources?

How do you find the repetition rate of the keys? For example try start of friska section HR2-Liszt, i have the es920 and it's unstoppable in this respect, lightning fast, i had the CA99 which has GF3 action, i know mp11se has the GF1, which is significantly older action than GF3, regardless, the key repetition rate is faster and overall action is faster on es920... Which is weird as its a cheaper folded action. I do prefer the longer pivots and keys though on the GF actions. Bought iloud mtm for my es920 too, tbh I'm thinking of getting mp11se also, nicer to play on, but i worry the action is not fast enough, nor is key repetition speed, very important for advanced classical as you're probably aware. honestly I have never had problems with the repetition on the mp11se. However, I need to focus more when I have to play faster passages. It's very easy to press a wrong key. I wish the keyboard action was a bit heavier to have more control, but it's still doable. :)

Fantastic playing! I have the mp7se and it’s such a great piano! I have reasons to believe it sounds better than most brands. The problem i have though is with getting people to hear the quality of sound i hear when I play. By the time it goes to the mixing console the nice effects get muffled out. If i use the headphones ports to go to the mixing board it sounds better than the line outs

Thank you for listening! It does sound better then most brands! What's your signal flow? Maybe you should consider a audio converter as well. Honestly if one device in the signal chain is not performing well then the whole recording can be compromised

Tengo el mismo problema,nadie ha podido escuchar lo que toco. He intentado con amplificadores de bocinas de 12 pulgadas de marcas,con parlantes de campos cercanos , los vendí y compré los bose S1PRO . El resultado que con todos estos equipos he tenido un sonido que parece más a un xilófono,que a un piano.

It's nice, but you should try Silent Yamaha piano SH2..CFS concert piano Bosendorfer, with reel keyboards, reel hammer, real touches... Or with midi, visit VSL site, and listen amazing sounds with Synchron Player .. Incredible

Hey! Thank you so much for connecting with me! I am using the Roland KC200 12 inch speakers! They are doing a great job and are easy to connect with the Stereo link option. Though I do prefer more using my Bose QC35 II headphones. The sound is more refined.

This is the best sounding piano ive heard in a keyboard from 3k-4k price range. Only thing i heard that might compete is the Korg Grandstage 88....but im entirely not sure. Has anyone personally played both up close inperson to be able to make a sound judgment? Thanks if anyone can anwser my question.

yes I have at Sweetwater Music! The sound is better and infinitely more customizable then the Korg Grandstage. Also, the keyboard feels more realistic on the Kawai MP11SE :)

I do not have enough knowledge to comment about the piano itself but, here's a little fun fact that makes me laugh a little whenever I think about it. In Japanese "Kawaii" (with double i, written 可愛い or more commonly かわいい in Japanese) is an adjective that means cute or adorable. But the Kawai (written 河合) from the brand name has nothing to do with Kawaii, in fact it is the last name of the founder of Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (株式会社河合楽器製作所 written in Japanese), 河合小市 Kawai Koichi. I know it might be unrelated to the video but I just can't help but remember that word whenever I hear the name Kawai.

Would love to know your expert opinion on Kawai CA 78/ 79 Vs Mp 11se( Price almost comes to same for Mpse 11 $ 2600+ Monitor + Stand vs CA 78/79 $ 3500 Aprox) ..I know CA series is For home use & MpSe Series for Stage Live Performance.. Hmm honestly as I mentioned in the previous comment, I think that the MP11Se is overall better. I have no regrets about having it. I am also only using it for the acoustic piano sound. It's much more natural than any other digital piano sounds on the market☺️

@@abrahamsg8318 I am using the Roland KC200 - 12 inch stereo speakers! It is perfect for my needs! I dont remember the name if the stand, but you you need something sturdy, because the keyboard is relatively heavy.

Please, could you tell me what options do you use as Voicing and Touch in the fragments of Liszt? Have you created a custom touch (velocity) curve? I like so much the way you get that dynamic range. I have also this piano but when I try to play pianissimo I get many ghost notes. I know I have to practice and improve my technique, but it would help me to know what configuration do you use while sounds so great. Thanks

Hi Daniel! I have not created a custom velocity curve. I think I'm using normal voicing and normal curve but I'm sure something that I set makes a difference since I also had the same issue with some ghost notes here and there. ☺️ I'm happy we have the same keyboard!!!! I'll look tomorrow in my options and will tell you.

thank you so much! I had the chance to play all of them in store at Sweetwater Music and honestly the Kawai mp11se is the best in terms of keyboard, sound and quality. It is a bit on the heavier side but I never had problems moving it around. If you have been classically trained before, this would be the best. If you play church music, or perform a lot on stage you might consider the Nord Grand.

I was looking for something very similar to a acoustic piano, and this one is the only keyboard that has wooden keys with an actual counterweight system, it's a lot more sensitive in expression

@@pardonmypiano Im not classically trained.... far from it. In fact, I took lessons for less than 6 months. I quickly determined that reading music was never going to happen. Looking at the lines/scores makes me nauseous. But I was spoiled to learn by ear on a 9' Yamaha that recieved tuning and inspections every 3-4 months. So having that same feeling is very important to me. 5 yrs ago, one of our dear mothers of the church passed away, and I was blessed with her 6' Yamaha. If you go to my channel, and push "videos" or "playlists" you will see me playing it in my living room. ....Im not sure what my style is. I play incorrectly, with bad posture, and I can only play in Eb or Ebm. (Very little in C or F)... I'm really just a drummer. I want a keyboard for analog basement recording (without a vst.) It will probably never leave my home.... ever. So portability is no concern.

@@pardonmypiano Thanks for the great video. Have you tried the Kawai VPC1 controller? I heard it was excellent for classical performances, and under $2000. For those with a $12,000 keyboard budget, the Millennium III Hybrid grand piano action is supposed to be the best of any digital or digital hybrid actions, and can be found in the Novus NV10.

@@pardonmypiano oh thanks for replying I am from Iran but I live in Northern Ireland I don’t know if you had chance to try Kawai ca99 I am confused between mp11se and ca99, and also the price is issue as well and mp is cheaper I play Iranian style and use a specific technique a lot and I want to ensure that this action supports that technique Is there a way that I can take a video and send that to you??? Unfortunately I couldn’t find mp11se in shops here to try that

In the video in time 03:06 to 03:08 you tried to play a key with two fingers with trill (same key in different octave but you didn’t make it I don’t know if you are not good at doing that or the action didn’t let you do that???

Studio Monitors (Kali Audio LP-8's, 380/pair)) would be excellent in a studio/practiceroom setting, and for live concerts the QSC CP8's (powered, about $400ea) are excellent for live indoor bands. Either of those choices would give you amazing sound quality (far superior to any roland amp).

Hey! I am using the Roland KC200 12 inch speakers :) CA99 sounds like a great option too! I want to try play it in a store because I think that the keyboard might be a bit heavier than the MP11SE

@@pardonmypiano Thanks for the update, Im debating between the MP11SE and the CA99 but I like the way the MP11 is set out with the buttons and the dials also it sounds awesome thanks to your channel but Im sure the CA99 is also a great piano, Its a tough one to decide on but I think I will choose the MP11. I have a Kawai K300 upright but honestly the tuning is always out even after a tune before you know it a note is out of tune and there is more & more notes so I am thinking of selling it

Honestly, while researching the MP7SE I realized that it has organ sounds...mine doesn't have, I wish it did. Also, it's a lot lighter than the MP11SE, a lot easier to transport. The keyboard is similar, same acoustic piano sounds, and pretty much everything else. I don't understand why MP11SE is 1000 dollars more.

@@pardonmypiano Thanks for your reply! Only the MP11SE has the real wooden keys, but from what i can find the action on the MP7SE should be just as good. I can't verify that though since none of the shops over here have either one of them in stock. Anyway, i'm a guitar/bass player, picking up the piano after 2 decades of focusing on other instruments, i'm sure i'll be impressed with the 7SE. Keep up the video's, i really enjoy listening!

Apparently the MP11SE keys have sticking issues after a few months ……. This is due to the padding material …… I got my MP11SE and it turn slightly one year now and the problem with the keys seems to be a common issues.

Hi brother Today I received my mp11se finally but unfortunately there is a problem I think When press the bottoms (1 to 4 and just 2 and 3 and 4) the bottom stuck inside and with a noise come back to normal) Do you have this problem???? And also the screen has a lot of scratches?

There could be a small stripe of protective tape. You should remove it! Also my screen was fine! It might only be there screen protector. Let me know!!

Would you recommend this keyboard as an alternative to an upright to study classical music many hours a day? I’m seriously considering it.

Hey Roberto! I would say it is a lot better than an upright. You never have to tune it, and the keyboard feels like a real grand piano! (just a bit lighter) Also you can do amazing recordings like these ones :)

the only thing you should have in mind is that it doesn't have its own speakers. So you need either a good pair of headphones or amps.
