Looking for the Best Swimming Holes in the DMV or Free Things To Do Near DC This Summer? How about a place where people created a moving current mini-lazy river "tube shoot" perfect for Tubing or a bumpy body surfing ride?
On today's adventure one of the closest swimming holes to Washington DC at Seneca Creek. It is located in Montgomery County Maryland (outside of Poolesville) and features something you don't find in other swimming holes. People have moved the rocks to force the current to move into a mini-rapids for some fun tubing action.
Make sure if you visit you don't park at Poole's General Store. Instead follow the sign (if it is still there) and park on the side of OLD River Road. NOT River road. From there it is a very short walk to the creek.

I used WAZE to find the GPS point (and google maps I think). But another place you could try for GPS would be Poole's Store, 16315 Old River Rd, Poolesville, MD.

Nice video. This is about a 5 to 10 minute drive from my house, I must pass by this place a half a dozen times or more per week. A slightly less congested great spot to check out, not too far from there right off of River Rd, is Violette’s Lock. And for a cleaner more swim friendly environment, try catfish hole in Great Falls Park. The park entrance is located where Falls Rd meets MacArthur Blvd, not far from Potomac Village

Thanks for watching! My favorite spot is Elizabeth Furnace, Down 66 towards Front Royal. That swimming hole is a real one, deeper, lots of fun. The one in this video is fun if you bring a tube, but outside of that is not deep and kind of dirty.

Not deep at all. The main thing here is the current. If that manmade thing didn't exist the place would be pretty weak. I also only wanted to stay in the current because the non-current parts were kind of stagnant and not great. One family threw trash into the water too. I'd recommend going here with a Tube if you can find one. And not expecting to stay too long or expecting it to be a paradise. For that, you have to go at least to Elizabeth Furnace, my favorite swimming hole an Hour from NoVa.

Elizabeth Furnace has 2 areas. The Rope Swing area, which has a "hole" where the swing is. But the more chill area is by the long rock which has both a stream with running water to lay in, and a 3-4 foot deep "hole". Here is my video on those ones.
