My first serious synth setup was a Roland MC-202 and my brother's SH-101 (when he wasn't using it). Looking back on it I'm amazed that I worked out how to use them without the manuals - they were already about ten year old bits of equipment and the manuals were long gone. This was before the world wide Web took off, about 1992. Now we're living in a bit of a golden age, with Behringer and Korg making affordable versions of iconic kit like the TB-303 and MS-20 with RU-vid videos like yours to show is what we can do with them.
All were good, with the Uno perhaps being outshone with no standout feature. My favorite was the monologue, loved how many timbres you were easily able to switch between.

I Have the TD-3 Modded-Out, the Minitaur and the Typhon. Never used them at the same time but want to experiment it with my Akai Force to sequence all of them ... TECHNO MAYHEM hihi. Thank you for the nice job you're doing. Keep it up. Cheers
I got mine rig up to my crave via cv patches. The easy if expandability is one of the TD-3’s best features. Dollar for dollar 💵 the best synth out right now.
They all sound great to be honest, Pete. I was surprised how good the UNO sounds actually. It held up well against some pretty stiff competition. I've had a Monologue for a while now and I absolutely love it, and I've also recently added a Typhon too. It's early days with that and I'm still getting used, but so far I'm very impressed.
@@Iggxzy The Typhon is great. I can certainly recommend it. It's one of those synths that's deeper than you'd expect. It's surprising what you can get out of it once you start getting used to it. The effects are great too. I've also recently bought a Dreadbox Nyx 2. I wasn't intending to get another synth yet, but found out that it's due to be discontinued, and it's one I'd wanted for a while. It's early days with that yet but first impressions are very good.
At the moment my TD-3 is “married” to my KORG Monotribe (with MIDI I/O kit), they are a great pair. I make the TD-3 do the sequencing and then run the audio through the input on the Monotribe. That way i have basically added an extra MS20 Oscillator and a MS20 filter to my TD-3, it’s my little ACID Monster! Haha 🙃
I use my old Micromoog with a Kenton pro solo and a extra adjust pot hooked on two jacks to have a correct voltage for the MicroMoogs Keyboard ( no 1 v/octave ) . This whole installation is sequenced with a Td3. My other Td3 is sending cv out to the Micromoogs cv filter port . The nice thing on the old moog is the pseudo suboscillator and the weird modulation possibility .
It works nicely to drive my other synths that don't have as nice a sequencer but it also has sync input so its easy to sync with volcas as well and works nicely with the volca drums and volca nubass.
I must admit I have a bias towards the Typhon, but I really like it. I also own a Syrin and a Monologue. They would be my second and third choice respectively.
@@psmaulehlien I guess that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I do even understand what you are coming from. But I personally think it looks great, especially in real life. Fairly clean, with a splash of personality. I specifically love the look and feel of the knobs.
Love the idea ! And all sound really good. I have a Bass station 2 and looking to add a dedicated bass synth for low end so that I can use the BS2 for arpeggios. I love the look and sound of the typhon....but how does it hold up against the Minitaur for solid low end? I know they are slightly different beasts but just interested in peoples opinions on the 2. Typhon for me but I reckon just two TD-3s would be my 1st stop off point. They just really kick ridiculously hard if you push the accent. Slightly detuned or an octave above the other is gonna sound ‘kin’ MiGHTY!!!!
The clear winner for me is the UNO. That is....if the Typhon was only dry. The UNO wraps well around it. Funny, they're both the cheapest synths out of the four. 👍
The microbrute controlled by the td-3 via cv sounds pretty good. I just got a model D. have not tried that yet but i bet i can make some trippy shit. and there is a webiste out there that lets you program patterns into the td-3 really easily. it's slick.
i have been running mine into my moog little phatty. very fun. sending the moog only notes and no tempo so i can get some crazy fun arps going etc. good times.
I reckon, although only 1 VCO and a sub, that the Arturia Microbrute would partner really well. It’s one VCO with mixed waveforms and sub produce some amazing harmonics and is only about £$€200. Then add a delay pedal to get Typhon type sounds. Typhon sounded great but bit unfair as it has built in fx. Still, I’ll probably try a buy one at some point. Good on those Athens Greek boys. Superb. Thanks for the nice feedback! Yes, in the 1-vco range the microbrute is a hot candidate. But as far as I know it's not velocity sensitive, so it will not respond to accents...
hi, thanks for this, but what i a missing is how to connect the TD-3 to for example to the UNO synth. is it TD-3 midi out ->UNo midi in and TD-3 audio out -> UNO audio in? we are all still learning :-) thanks
😊Yes, td-3 midi out to uno midi in, same with the other synth partners. The audio outputs are combined in a mixer which also allows to set the two synths on different stereo pan positions
Yes, the DB-01 would be an excellent replacement for a second td-3 but still it's not a two-oscillator synth. Although the sub-osc significantly extends the sound spectrum...
I'd suggest getting the RD-6 if it's going to be your only drum machine. It's got all the essential sounds and has great connectivity. I use the Volca Drum for adding percussive parts alongside the main rhythm patterns played on an RD-6.
If your focus is on ease of use and you are happy with just one (good) sound setting, unless you mix the single-outs externally, then go for the RD-6. If you want to create your own sounds and you are not afraid of a complex user interface (or an external editor software) than go for the volca drum.
