Best Team for Hoenn: Sceptile Edition 

So i forgot that Energy ball is obtainable post game oops lol. Use Calm mind on Gardevoir instead pretty sure you get that from Tate and Liza.

I'm currently doing a Hoenn run with all Grass types... Just made it to the 6th gym. Flying type. Pray for me... Edit (1 year late): To answer those who were curious enough to ask, I skipped Winona for experience with the twins (who were a breeze). Went back and died about a million times before I got lucky with a her Altaria setting up Dragon Dance while I got 2 back to back crits. I got to the Elite Four but never won since I lost my save file. Couple things to keep in mind if you do this run. I didn't use HM slaves. I picked grass because I could maintain a full team of 6 HMs split between. That said, Lombre/Ludicolo is essentially your Water HM slave. He also demolishes Flannery. Tropius is obviously your flyer.

Hoenn is definitely the hardest choice to choose from for starters I love the design for all of them !!

Sceptile is still remains to this day, my first starter Pokémon.

My first starter was actually Totodile in Gold, but the Treecko line became my top favorite after R/S. I always wanted Sceptile to be part dragon and the Hoenn remakes finally made that a reality. My Hoenn team is Sceptile, Flygon, Armaldo, Ninjask, Mawile, and Seviper.

Just a nitpick, but please don't list the effectiveness if you can't use the move for the boss fight, like saying Gardevoir's Energy Ball against Roxanne.

I wanna try this in emerald. Just going to change that Swellow boi for my mvp Flygon. That would be Sceptile, Gardevoir, Gyarados, Hariyama, Manectric and Flygon. Neat!

I played recently through ORAS with Sceptile and it was the most fun I've ever had while playing through the ORAS games the team I used was: Sceptile Delcatty Absol Milotic Altaria Dustox The team is super and I personally thought that Delcatty and Dustox would be weak but quite the contrary they both did a very good job which rlly suprised me

Sceptile has to be my joint second favourite starter, falling behind Greninja, but being joint with Empoleon, empoleon was my first starter ever but got outdone when I played through Y by Greninja, sceptile just feels so strong in most games, it’s also one of the coolest looking starters

Oh, and for other flyers, Mega Altaria is genuinely overpowered as fuck. Get a heart scale and relearn dragon dance, then use pixilate Facade to destroy everything. Its high natural bulk and ability to change types to set up on different mons makes it very, very good.

I love Sceptile and grass starters in general. My (current) Sceptile team revolves around Swallow, Gardevoir, Swallot, Aggron, and Milotic.

Go with FLYGON as a flyer. If you train your trapinch from the moment you get it, it will be a vibrava by the time you get fly. It is the only flying move it can learn. but a flygon has way more power than swellow.

My team in Emerald is: Sceptile: Leafblade, Cut, Earthquake, dragon claw. Swellow: Wing attack, Fly, Facade, Brave Bird. Pikachu: Volt tackle, Electro ball, Thunderbolt, Rock smash. Torkoal: Overheat, Flamethrower, Earthquake, Strength. Aggron: Earthquake, Surf, Rollout, Bulldoze. Gyarodos: Dive, Waterfall, Dragon Pulse, Crunch. Note: By the way, Gyarodos' Dragon pulse can be found in the top right corner of Sky pillar. Use walk through walls.

I have always chosen Treekco as my starter. My team has basically stayed the same since Emerald as well being Sceptile Latios/Flygon (Latios was a bit more difficult to get in gen 3 so Flygon was a nice substitute) Metagross Gardevouir/Gallade (Gallade of course did not exist in gen 3) Milotic Salamence

My Alpha Sapphire team is Sceptile Gardevior Altaria Camerupt Menectric Sharpedo

If you're playing Emerald, having an electric and grass type (Or just moves of the type) can be pretty crucial because of the champion having a bunch of dual types that resist both.

Personally, I’d go with Energy Ball as Sceptile’s Grass-type Stab since it’s Special Attack stat is higher and Energy Ball has the same base power as Leaf Blade so not a lot changes. I get Leaf Blade allows critical hits to land easier, but it that doesn’t matter to me. Also after completing the story, I’d go with Dragon Pulse. Edit: Also I would use this team but change some things around for example: I’d replace Hariyama with Slaking since I used Hariyama in Pokemon Ultra Moon and don’t wanna use it again and Slaking just has better stats and more type coverage thanks to its Move Pool. Also I’d use Azumarill instead of Gyarados for the same reason as Hariyama, and there’s already a Flying-Type on the team being Swellow/Crobat (I can’t decide which one I want) then use Grumpig instead of Gardevoir since I’ll be using Azumarill which is a Fairy-Type like Gardevoir, it’s quite powerful in the Sp. Attack stat as well and it gets access to Thunder Wave which to me seems more useful than Thunderbolt. So short, sweet and to the point, my team would be: Sceptile Grumpig Slaking Azumarill Swellow/Crobat Manectric

My fav team for hoenn is Sceptile, Aggron (metagross if possible), Flygon, Ninetales, Milotic, and Gardeviour. I also usually have subs of Manetric and Sableye. Linoone HM slave

Here's a funny story. I was out to get a ralts on 102, and I found it on my third try. Treeko used pound, and it did 1/3 hp. The ralts then used screech. I thought to myself, ok, I'm going to hit it one more time just to be sure. Unless I somehow get a crit, I should have it. Guess what f***ing happened.

It’s a tradition of mine to pick Sceptile for Emerald, Swampert for Sapphire, and Blaziken for Ruby

On my most recent ORAS run, I ended up really enjoying Azumarill. I usually stick to Swampert, Gardevoir, Slaking, Aggron, etc. When I went for my Sceptile run, Azumarill with Huge Power was crazy. Sometimes slow, but get a good nature and Aqua Tail and Play Rough are powerhouses.

FFS, SKARMORY IS THE BEST FLYER IN ORAS. Swords Dance/Steel Wing/Fly/Filler. Literally swept the fire gym with this thing; it's THAT GOOD. Oh, and then swept Norman right after. SD is in lavaridge town.

For Hariyama you should actually have the combo of Force Palm and Smelling Salts. the reasoning behind this is Force Palm has a high chance to paralyze your enemy and Smelling salts doubles if opponents is paralyzed pretty much giving you a 140 power move with no downsides

Why no recognition of Flygon as a fly-capable pokémon in Gen 3? It arguably has a better movepool than either Swellow or Crobat, and it'll likely have fully evolved by the time you can use fly out of battle anyway.

Like i love the 3 starters of Kanto, i also love the 3 starters of Hoenn, they are too cool and useful Pokémon, and they have Megaevolutions too

One thing I always have trouble with these and that is, to progress through the game you need HMs, Swellow and Gyrados are the only ones with HMs, their should be an HM slave or have each Pokémon have a vital HM in the moveset.

The amount of work you have to do to evolve Golbat, ralts and magikarp that too in the beginning of the game is a struggle

Gardevoir doesn't do well against Roxanne's team. That's only if you're able to get Energy Ball that early on but you can't.

About time my favorite starter has his time in the spotlight. Also, have used pretty much all of the Pokémon on this team at one point or another

My team from my recent ruby playthrough Sceptile (Leaf Blade, Pursuit, Giga Drain, Brick Break) Gardevior (Psychic, Thunderbolt, Facade, Future Sight) Masquerain (Silver Wind, Gust, Bubblebeam, Quick Attack) Aggron (Metal Claw, Rock Tomb, Water Pulse, Dragon Claw) Camerupt (Eruption, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Take Down) Flygon (Earthquake, Dragon Breath, Crunch, Steel Wing) Masquerain was my biggest surprise as it actually held not only itself but also helped out my team a lot. It actually swept through the fire gym and took out drakes second flygon. Phoebes sableye also fell against it usually. Overall it made me fall in love with it whereas before i thought it was an alright pokemon.

Also you keep forgetting that the move strength exists

I absolutely LOVE Sceptile. It’s not only my favorite starter, but also my 2nd Favorite Pokémon.

I have issue with Sceptile’s movepool. Having an Earth and Rock type move covers most supereffectove matchups Sceptile would face. Rock covers Fire, Flying, Ice and Bug while watch covers Poison and Fire. That said, Having Rock Tomb and Low sweep early and then switching that out for Rock Slide and Earthquake seems like better coverage moves. This allows Sceptile to deal with Flannery’s Torcoal (Be careful), Winona’s team except Skarmory (Be careful), and Aqua’s/Magma’s Zubat line (Be careful), and finally Drake’s Altaria and Salamance.

I always chose sceptile for a hoenn playthrough because he’s my favorite pokemon and the team that I always have is: Sceptile Camerupt Walrein Salamence Manectric Gardevoir In some play throughs I did switch out a few mons to just use new Pokémon like: Milotic or sharpest for walrein Flygon or altaria for salamence Metagross for gardevoir And some others mons like swellow, banette, exploud, hariyama, or medicham
