Hey Swati, Thanks for the insights over here. Your recent videos on Geochala has been really helpful for me. I'm planning to do this trek the DIY way somewhere around mid-October till the end of October. Would you recommend it or do you think it's not a good idea? (FYI: We are just 2 folks) We are planning to take only a guide and one porter (who will carry the food and other non-essentials). Rest everything we are planning to carry ourselves.. Let me know of your thoughts.

What a wonderful time to go! And DIY style! You'll love it. :) My only advice would be to inform yourself well about AMS, HAPE and HACE. Take all the required precautions and medications. October also gets progressively cold. I would choose mid-October rather than late October. Late October - Early November gets very cold, and a dry cold. Even water sources start freezing. So for DIY style, definitely choose mid-October.

Hi James, Goechala is a Moderate-Difficult | Level 3 trek. This means that this trek has quite a few challenging sections and demands you to be fit. It also climbs up to 15,100 ft. So if you have prior experience of high-altitude trekking, you can go for this. Otherwise, you can choose some Easy-Moderate treks like Dayara Bugyal, Deoriatal Chandrashila or Kuari Pass to begin with. Hi Sourav, you'll find the most snowy treks that we run here - indiahikes.com/best-winter-treks-december-january-february/ These are all winter treks, best done in December, Jan and Feb. You'll find snow on all of them, except perhaps the Sandakphu trek.

I don't see any dates during end of Oct-2022. Is there a chance that you open any date during end of OCT like 22nd/29th ?

Hi Ajoy Unfortunately, we don’t have any dates open towards the end of October because it gets extremely cold and we have seen higher cases of AMS when it gets colder on this trek. Try and wrap up the trek in the first half of October.

We wouldn't suggest Goechala for first timers, it's a difficult trek and prior trekking experience is required before attempting any difficult trek.

@@tresa9616 For the Goechala trek, we don't have gear on rent for non-Indiahikes trekkers yet. There has been a dearth of trek equipment globally this year because of the pandemic and lack of manufacturing. We hope to have them available by summer 2022.

Prepare well and develop good stamina and mental preparation. Enjoy each moment on the trek, it is a heaven. Do walking meditation. Keep the trail clean and pick up any plastics in Indiahikes bags. Take diamox dose without fail to get the best experience. Make friends. Enjoy. I will do Goechala again soon!!

You've already got a wonderfully helpful response from Narendra. This is a trek that's not easy and you must prepare well for it. Prepare for at least two months before the trek, running and building your core strength as well. Going on a preventive course of Diamox is also very good advice.
