Best Tip To Set A Seam Allowance On Your Machine - It's A Game-Changer!

In this sewing video, I am sharing with you a game-changer for me in working out my seam allowances on my sewing machine. I was forever using a ruler or sticking washi tape to the needle plate as my guide but this easy and simple trick will transform your sewing, believe me! I'm sure its the same setting for all machines .......
The settings I use on my Brother machine with the presser foot against the edge of the fabric are:
Stitch width
00 = 1/2 inch seam allowance
2.0 = 3/8 inch
5.5 = 1/4 inch
7.0 = 3/16 in

This doesn't apply to my machine non-computerised, as changing the stitch width doesn't move the needle, there's a separate control for that and changing width does give me zigzag. Thought it might reassure anyone else with a basic machine.

This only would work for computerized machines... those of us who have older machines i.e., circa 1980's are unable to use this method.

I’m forever using washi tape because I just have a basic machine. Nothing fancy here to set stitch width.

Could have used black thread to make it easier to see the stitching and the measurement afterward.

Thank you! As a newbie this is my biggest hurdle and headache. I find myself watching the plate so closely that my fabric starts traveling away from my intended point. This is such an amazing tip. ❤

Surprisingly to me not everyone know that you can adjust the needle position with the stitch width. Actually had a discussion with a few people in a sewing group about this awhile back. Someone asked what the stitch width button where for, and when I answered it also adjust your needle position a few people were quite adamant that it only adjusted stitch width. Had to show them for them do believe me.
