In a previous video I showed you how to use the monogram (lettering) feature on the Janome MC9400 to add words and phrases to a project. You can find this video at • Monograms on the Janom...
I thought it would be fun to create personal phrases and add these to a project. I've recently been making small pouches, so decided to try this out on one of them.
In this video, I give you my best tips to be successful in adding lettering to your own project. Following these tips will ensure that you end up with a personalized project great for yourself or as a gift to a quilty friend.

Super helpful! Your tips work great for the Janome 15000 also-just need to use other stitch numbers, etc. Thanks so much!

Great tips. I have struggled with "writing" on fabric and having the letters run off the edge. I end up by cutting my fabric much larger and then trimming it to the size I need after monogramming. It's a hassle to do it that way and a waste of fabric. I never knew I should use stabilizer either until just recently (duh me!). That definitely helps! Thanks, Kim. I shall persevere and try again.

Hi Kim I have the Janome 15000 but I always learn something from the tutorials about your machine that I can use in mine. Thank you and Merry Christmas from Sydney

Thanks so much for your tips. I haven't been able to master monnograming yet. I did note that you had a nice amount of space between your words. When I programmed my two word phrase into the machine I was instructed to use the stop function to get a space. However, it seems to be a very small space & my words looked too close together in my sample. I thought I could just press the stop function twice but no it didn't accept that. 🤔😂😂 My machine is a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire Q 850 I realize you have a different machine but it may be similar in its programming. I would appreciate any tips you may have on that. Thanks again for vid. 🙏😊👏

It can be hard to get the "right" size of spaces between letters in a monogram. If your machine doesn't let you do this, the best way to get the spacing the way you want is to do the letters one at a time - a bit slower but you'll be able to get the spacing exactly right.

Hi ! I’ve been watching a lot of your vids thanks for all the info. I’ve ordered my blue dot bobbin holder for quilting and have started using only Janome needles. My question though is I see your thread in the back of the machine . How does that work ? What do I need to buy and why do you prefer that ? Hope to hear back thanks again for all the great tips and tricks and knowledge of my machine.

I’ve noticed when I use a big spool it does seem to drag because the thread is laying in the spool holder it works but does cause issues sometimes. That’s why I’d like to know about the thread standing up in the back.

This is an older video and I think I might have an optional accessory to hold up the threads - thera are 2 thread cone holders and 5 thread cone holders available. Check with your local Janome retailer to see what you can get for your Janome model.

Hi Kim, loved the video but have a question. I have the 9450QCP and I like doing the monogramming. I noticed that your letters don't have a stitch between them and look really nice. Can you tell me how you get them to look that way? When I do the words there is a connecting stitch between letters and words and I would like it if there wasn't .

I cut the thread that is between the various letters with a seam ripper or snips.

Do you have to use the stop/finish feature where it stops it from unraveling for each letter? Or does cutting it not leave it open to losing stitches so it’s not necessary?

What about the dual feed foot for monograms. If you don’t have the walking foot?

What I call a walking foot can also be called a dual feed foot - they may not be exactly the same mechanically, but they work the same way, so it should work okay.

Is 9mm on the 9450 the largest monogram you can make?
@Chatterboxquilts
@Chatterboxquilts 2 года назад
Yes, it can only stitch up to 9 mm

For me the only helpful tip was using walking foot. Nothing else helped me to do any actual monogramming on my Janome 6700p. Disappointed.

I don't have a Janome 6700 so I can't speak to how helpful this video would be when using that machine.
