I believe the cucuzzi squash is the one Jess grew a couple years ago and one plant took down a sunflower and grew into their gazebo 😂

I have no problems pinching tomato blossoms and cucumber blossoms off, but can’t find it in my heart to pinch the flowers off my tomatillos. They’re so beautiful! 🥲

Jill, you squat down and plant, bounce up then do it again and again! Enjoy these days! We take it for granted while we are able and then suddenly we cannot anymore. Great video, lovely smile and a boost to everyone’s day. 💕💕🌻🥰

When you mention cutting off the suckers is it just indeterminate varieties I was always told determinate tomatoes don’t need to be pruned unless it becomes very dense to increase airflow.

I have watched so many tomatoes videos and learned a lot of different things about them, but this video has a true wealth of knowledge especially towards the pruning. I am dying to garden. I just got a couple flowers and a pineapple mint and a rosemary plant for containers this year but am hoping for in ground beds next year. Also I just saw another video yesterday about someone trellising tomatoes on an arch trellis and am dying to try it so I can’t wait to see your experiment.

I thank you for the tip about the blossoms. I have so many already started before they got settled. But in the case with the suckered I just let get nice and long then snip and put it in a 5 gallon bucket or straight in the ground. I had a good harvest last year. Thanks Jill!💜🤗

Thanks for addressing what to do with somewhat neglected plant starts! I’m 11 weeks pregnant, so the planting season through my first trimester was a bit rough 😂 I still have plants sitting in their pots out on the ground of my garden area. Poor things need someone with energy to come help them, lol.

I grow all of my tomatoes on arched cow panels. This year I have 31 plants. That’s how I’ve been growing them for several years now. It’s very easy. I snip all the lower limbs to promote growth and pick off all of the suckers so that they don’t get super bushy. It’s a lot easier to take care of pests that way too.

You could plant the tomatoes on the inside of the archway, and weave them through to the back? I have never done them on an archway, only on a straight cattle panel. It will be interesting to see how far up they grow! :)

I did my Cherokee purple and beefsteak on an arched trellis last year. It did really well. But they didn’t “hang” and it got tough to watch them on top of the trellis. The sweet 100 did hang down though.

If I didn’t live in New York I would run you over some of my heirloom tomatoes that I heard you mention that you didn’t get chance to get to this year. I planted way too many seeds of all different kinds of tomatoes this year. I don’t know if it was because i was so excited about spring coming or possibly because I was using Bootstrap Farmers seeding equipment (of course I have your special beautiful colored line). So I have at least 15 plants each for the 24 different kinds I seeded.😳 Everything from Beefsteak, cherry sizes, paste and sauce tomatoes, Dr. Wyche’s, Golden Jubilee, Kellogg Breakfast and the list goes on. My husband is the best… he walks by and asks, “Do I need to start making more raised beds? Are we going to have a vegetable stand this year?” 🤣. I will be giving my sister some as all of her starts died on her, but that will still give me well over 200 plants 😳. I have come to the conclusion that I am going to go around to neighbors that I have and give them away. I have also heard of so many people in the area that are either making their gardens bigger this year or others just starting out gardening because of the food expense’s. Not to mention how much healthier and fun it is to walk out your back door and pick your meal or snack. I think maybe in the back of my mind while doing my seeding this year I thought I would need more for some reason. I am not going to let them go to waste, I will go around to all of my neighbors and people I know that may need that tomato plant, squash or cucumbers etc., and give them some. Then I will go on to church and see if anyone would like/need something or if they have heard of anyone that does need some plants. I will find a home for every plant, as all of them came out just beautifully. Not to mention the great feeling I get when I know that I am able to help out others in anyway I can, and if that is giving someone some plants to be able to put food on their plates then that is what I will do. Thank you for all your teaching and inspiration you share with us. You have a lovely family and I am always looking for your new vlog’s every chance I can get.👍 Well, with that being said, I have to go and continue the up potting of my seedlings! Have a lovely day everyone! ❤️

Word of caution using an egg where there are raccoons or foxes. The animal will dig up the egg to eat it, and in the process dig up your plants. It is SO heartbreaking to beautifully plant your tomatoes or peppers only to find them dug up and crushed the next morning!

I had squirrels dig mine up and lay them by the hole they dug. For the most part the tomatoes survived after I planted them back !!

I planted 8 tomatoes out the week of 4/25 and I don’t think I planted them deep enough. They aren’t dead or anything like that but they also haven’t changed much since planting. I have put Epsom salt around them and watered that in. Is it too late to put more soil around them? I’ve grown tomatoes for years but they were always hybrid determinant types and I’m struggling with the heirloom indeterminate types. Your thoughts are most welcome!

I need your help. While I was busy planting seeds and hubby was busy potting up and selling tomatoes, a group of heirlooms, 15 in total, got neglected and not pruned, so they now have two leaders. Should I put them to compost or will they still develop and produce a crop?

What way of trellising do you think is best for smaller spaces (like a 15x15 ft space for example)?

Depending on the layout of your bed, I would still use a cattle panel, they are 16' long
@missourigirl8447

If you can't fit a full length panel, I would stake them. Tomato cages just aren't tall enough for indeterminate varieties. ❤
