Yes, bring back the hard wall around the toilet/shower.

ABSOLUTELY the hard-side bathroom. It’s about the “feeling” of privacy. They need to bring it back!

Josh, this is exactly the model and layout that I absolutely love. My first time in a camper was in one of these. I'd love to pick one up for myself. I would have no problem buying one. I bought myself a truck just to buy a camper, and this is the one I want. But what I can say is that, until they go back to the hardwall bathroom enclosure, I'll never buy one. I'm hoping they will bring it back. It doesn't have to be the wood. Even if it's a really light hardwall, just something to give the feeling of privacy is essential for my family. Like you said, it's a camper, you're not getting much privacy, but even that little bit extra that real walls gives makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

The High Wall series from Rockwood/Flagstaff are fantastic for those who want more room and want a pop-up. We had a gently used 2013 Flagstaff HW27KS for 2 years before selling it for a bumper pull Coachmen TT, and we had zero issues with it. On one trip our HW27KS went through a sudden record torrential thunderstorm and had no water intrusion to the inside. To give you an idea of how much rain it endured, there was enough rain to raise the lake level 10ft overnight. Our Flagstaff HW did great with all the rain, while my in-law's new TT (non-Forrest River brand) had leaks all in it. Pop-up's have their obvious cons, but the HW series has tons of storage and counter top space compared to 95% of other PUP's. We were surprised how much we could pack into ours back then. Ours had the hard sided bathroom wall though, which I would prefer to the current set up. I always used the bath houses at campsites, but the HW's shower is still great to use for kids. For anyone who is considering buying one who will camp in a hot summer climate with no shade, I highly recommend buying a roll of "Reflectix" solar insulating bubble foil from Lowes or other big box home improvement stores. We made templates with cardboard of the windows and made sun shade inserts for the bunk and dinnete windows with the Reflectix. This made a HUGE difference in temperature control and the PUP would easily stay cool in the hot summer Texas heat.

2011 HW 276 was our 1st camper...there is a cover kit you can buy for these to help keep the sun out on the ends (these get hot during the day esp if you are exposed to direct sun light). We loved ours as it fit in our garage so storage was easy but It did take a bit more time to set up vs our 2018 Grey Wolf 29TE, but not horrible.

Memories we made while camping as kids definitely stick with us. I still remember where we camped as kids. No hookups on site. Had to tow the trailer to the front to empty the sewer. We would spend our days getting wet in a mucky lake and at night we would break a branch off some bush behind our site which was right next to a treeline and dad would whittle it down to a s'mores making stick for us

for a pop up this is bad ass, they are not my thing, but at same time i like them a lot as well and can see where they make for better camping also. a tent with all the trailer features but still kinda outside in a tent lol. if this was the kind of trailer i was after i would love it. i like a hard side trailer that has a canvas pop up that you can choose or not choose to deploy for the outdoor enviroment feel, that way can still use in conditions that are too hot or cold to have cloth wall, and need normal hard build. but this does not at all suck.. very nice in the right weather.

I know this is an older video posting, but I think the curtain style bathroom makes perfect sense! Start with -Privacy - there are some basic rv bath etiquette as bd safety concerns, particularly if you are a RV number 2 user verses do the 2 in the campground restroom. You let people know they might want to let the trailer air out a bit before goin in. Also, in terms of specific users, certain adults are shy, and the more comfortable or familiar the restroom the fewer the intestinal issues. Talk about kids, are you really comfortable letting them use the campground restroom on their own, and kids start misbehaving when behind walls where people can’t see them, no so much curtains if you’re having to supervise or assist them. So back to the curtain design. It allows for a bit of ADA or user assisted restroom use, safety and supervision for children use, more elbow room than with a wall, opens out to the corner roof exhaust fan for removing smells, and adequate privacy and more importantly familiarity for that after coffee pit stop or some late night emergency when solo camping.

We still have our 2010 Rockwood HW296 and I think I prefer the layout in ours to be honest. I don't think the changes have added anything to it. We have the hard wall bathroom, an L shaped lounge and a super dinnette in ours. The ceiling fan is directly above the oven and near the bathroom as the oven is on the other side of the counter. Also all our countertops are the same height in ours and I prefer that. Our black and grey tank releases are not separated either. We have all the other bells and whistles that this one has apart from solar prep and a power jack (not needed).

I think people like us who want a popup know each other well enough in that respect it's not a big issue. How big of a baby can the hammock hold? Lol. Hey Josh I own a 2018 HW296 and love the hardwall Bathroom my wife and I are very disappointed they stopped doing it, we love our hard wall bathroom. The one they changed in my 2018 was the bag that hangs upfront they moved over the couch on mine and after I posted a Pic of my wife sitting on the couch with the bag in her face on the Rockwood Facebook page the following year they moved it back over the countertop in front of the front bed end. We are camping right now in Maine from Aug 6th thru Sept 6th, but it's hard to get a 296 in the Ma area no where in Ma, NH, ME, VT area none of the Rockwood dealers carry the 296 we had to order ours.

I asked Rockwood - they said by far and away their number 1 warranty claim on their bathroom-equipped popups was the hardwall shower enclosure. Allegedly people didn't know how to use them and were breaking them. I don't know if that's truly the case but it's what I was told from their contacts.

Why go soft side? Oh and great storage...
@chuckshade7959
@chuckshade7959 2 года назад
Lance does make a nice camper, and RV prices are pretty high, but most people buy a pop-up for interior space and sleeping capacity, no way you’re fitting six people in the lance ,even the bunk house models are very limited ,most but not all can only fit small children on the bunks .and when you done popup camping just store it in your garage until next trip .

Hey Josh have you had any dealings with lippert 1/8 inch steel frame cracks and failures. I was on I-94 in Northern Indiana and seen a lippert tongue buckle and give way. I stopped to help but there was no helping this poor guy. It was a 2021 lippert 1/8 inch lippert frame, not sure of the make of RV. Seems kinda thin. He had no weight on it as he was a hot shotter pulling it. It's my understanding that most RV frames come from lippert? Any insights would be greatly appreciated 👍
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 2 года назад
I have not personally, no. Nor have any clients with whom I've had personal contact. It's a complicated issue. Lippert makes the frames. They also make them how the MFG tells them to make them I'm not defending the thickness of the metal used. I would like MFGs to request a higher standard and LCI to hold them to it a little more.

@JoshtheRVNerd 10 месяцев назад
I asked the factory. They claimed people were not properly setting them up or storing them and causing them to break. There is a specific order of operations to do them. Allegedly users were breaking them but wanting them fixed under warranty. People often think warranty means "you should fix anything no matter why it broke" but that's not the case. It covers MFG defects - not user error So apparently that's why they went to a curtain you can't break.

Why do they make exact trailers with different names? What exactly is the point?
@Andrew-fr3bp
@Andrew-fr3bp 2 года назад
Forrest River's Flagstaff/Rockwood line is basically the same concept as GM's Chevrolet/GMC line. Same overall company, two different brands. Plus it allows delaers to carry different brands in different markets/regions. If one dealer sells Flagstaff, then another dealer in same region can sell Rockwood.

Can you give me a minute marker to reference? Do you mean the actual front/nose side or from "camp side?" Camp side does have an awning if that what you're referencing

Nice trailer but I wouldnt trust it in Bear country . I prefer the campers that have hard sides which are safer where I camp . Tents are not safe in Bear country either .

Even tho the potty walls may give you the impression of more privacy... I'm not sure they do... Besides I also find them clostraphobic in a way (6'4" 350lbs)

Uncle Josh. This is the exact unit / camper we had but we recently traded it in for the Coachmen Freedom Express 238 BHS. We enjoyed this large sized pop-up camper however with the rules regarding wildlife in the western regions of the country, we were limited. This is indeed a high end of the family of tent campers and I`m certain those who have or wish to obtain one, will undoubtably enjoy it every bit as much as we did. Great video presentation again Josh.

I forgot to mention that this version of the HW296 is much different than the 2018 one we had. The fold up walls for the bathroom have been replaced by a simple curtain and the window lay out has been changed. Also missing are the hanging “cabinets” that we used for miscellaneous items such as paper plates, napkins, and select food stocks.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 2 года назад
Those hanging cabinets were optional for a long time I THINK they might’ve standardized them now though

i always wonder about the security...cant someone just rip up the vinyl by the door and climb in?
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 2 года назад
They can. RVs aren't made to be super secure and soft-sided models like this are obviously less so. They keep an honest person honest and it doesn't seem to be a common problem as I don't tend to hear about it in camping groups I think while the RV isn't generally in active use it's closed up which makes it less attractive

12:00 UG! Why this tongue jack? It is complete garbage and doesn't belong on a trailer of this weight. By garbage I mean there is nothing preventing the ring gear from unseating itself and tearing itself apart!
