Had a B&W 2" since 2011. Gave it to my son and bought a 3" B&W, love it. I also run a B&W OEM 5th wheel hitch. I have about 60,000 miles of towing with the 5th wheel hitch and still just as tight of a connection as when it was brand new.

Once again a great video. I sent it to my brother. He has a GM truck with the split tailgate. He and I have talked about it often. I think he will like 2 of the hitches you reviewed. Keep up the good work.

One thing that I didn't hear mentioned was on the longer units that place the ball the farthest out apply allot more tongue weight leverage on the trucks receiver and could overload the receivers tongue weight capacity thus putting allot of stress on the receiver, potential failure which a google search of "receiver hitch failure" will scare you. I have seen receiver flex on my trucks in the past and that constant oscillation of the receiver tube will/could cause a fatigue failure. I advise people with those really long hitches to not push close to the receivers tongue weight rating.

If you are worried about torque on the hitch, possibly use a load equalizer attachment.

It's worth noting that the WeighSafe hitch has stow capability (on 6" drop or greater). I have the 6" drop on my 2020 F350 and it stows perfectly (just barely, but it stows). Also, the aluminum construction is much lighter than steel, yet still very strong. Thanks for the good review.

I had the B&W that you showed and I got rid of it when I got a Rhino hitch. It’s a super nice hitch from a build perspective and it super convenient that you can easily adjust the height of the ball with the trailer hooked up.

I used to carry two hitches with the proper drop for my truck and most trailers. Then I found the B&W Tow & Stow at a wrecking yard for $30. I then spent 6 hours in my buddy's machine shop removing the ball pin. It had frozen in the hole. I love the B&W because I set it for height and with one pin I can rotate it to the ball I need. I leave it installed all the time. Because I live in the PNW I find that I need to lube the pins to keep them from corroding in place frequently. I imagine folks in the rust belt would need to do the same or not leave it installed all the time like I do.

I have a 3 inch 3 ball B&W in 7.5 inch drop/rise on my F350. Love the convenience, as I have had to pull multiple sizes of trailers. I leave it locked on for convenience. I coat the ball each time I use it with white lithium grease. Plus a once a year maintenance coat of grease on the shank, lock and pins. It still looks practically new.

I love my B&W tow and stow. It’s just the 2” shank and I’d really like to get the 2.5” but I just can’t justify spending the money when the one I have is still great, even after about 7 years of use. They are definitely worth the money and will last a long time with just very minimal maintenance. I usually grease mine at every oil change for my truck.

I own a Gen-y Boss Torsion hitch with a 3" shank. It came with two large balls a pintel slide lock. It's a beast and a conversation starter at the fuel pump. Made in the USA great customer service. I highly recommend it. I also have the weighsafe with 6" Drop flip ball, it is also a great hitch but the ride of the gen-y torsion is #1.

I've bought the Aluminum 2'5" shank Weigh Safe 180 with the 2" and 2 5/16" ball and an 8" drop for my F-450 chassis cab a few years back. It can also be flipped and stowed like the B&W. The light weight aluminum makes a huge difference in adjusting things as well as the willingness to remove it and stow it when it's not needed. The lack of paint means no rust or chipped finish. I do miss having the 1 7/8" ball very occasionally, but they offer that combo separately. You will need to keep the pins lubed, especially the pin holding the ball in. That goes into a blind hole and you need to thread a bolt into it to pull it out. My brother works for Bullet Proof down in Florida so I'm interested in those because they definitely live up to the name and I can get a discount.... but they are heavy as hell and if they aren't in the hitch, they are beating up whatever space you stow them in. I just upgraded to a 2021 F-550 and primarily tow 5th wheel with Reese 30k, but a half dozen times a year, I need to bumper tow and I appreciate the look at the options because I will be getting something for the new truck.

i run the curt 2.5" shank cast version. i like it because of how fast i can adjust hitch height, and swap to different size balls, or pintle attachments which works out very well for myself that is always towing different trailers of various heights. i also like how finer of increments it can be adjusted. and mine is already rated for more than my 2016 2500 cummins can tow with the factory hitch anyway

Hey JD: well I’m using a hitch that incorporates a upper lever making it useful for a pintol hitch. It sticks out about 10 inches. However I leave it on the truck. In town traffic I’ve been hit 3 times. When I’ve walked to the rear of the truck, I usually see their front bumper on the ground. No damage to my bumper. Thankfully it’s only happened twice but I have the hitch and receiver inspected afterwards. The best insurance, leave it attached.

I use the Curt Rebellion XD with the 2 1/2 inch shank. It came with a dual hitch ball (2 inch with a 10,000 pound rating and 2 5/16 inch ball with a 20,000 pound rating). This hitch is heavy. I think it weighs around 70 pounds. It has a 20000 pound GTW with a 8 inch drop and rise of 1 inch. I really love this hitch. eTrailer has it for $649.95

Great content. I personally have several myself, but the B&W is my favorite. The only issue with it from my opinion, which is the same issue with all hitches, is the fact when trying to adjust the hitch, the pins are usually hard to remove. And I've tried polishing them, oiling them with different lubes, etc. But they're always tough. Other than that, the B&W is my winner as well. Thanks for sharing 👍🇺🇸

I have the aluminum weigh safe. I do like it a lot since I live in NY and anything steel seizes up from the salt in the winter. Just know that it is not maintenance free…there are O-rings in the scale and oil that needs to be replaced. The parts are free from weigh safe, you pay $5 shipping after a year. It last 1 to 1.5 years between rebuilds

I have a Weightsafe as well. The ball created gaps in the forward and aft where it sits in the aluminum housing from back-and-forth pressure. Which made the ball loose in the housing thus creating an unpleasant jarring when hitting bumps. So I went with Bulletproof. Aluminum is softer than steel.

Some days i can be switching ball sizes 4-5 times and i can just jump out pull the pin and rotate the ball takes 5 seconds. Weighsafe hitches can also be stowed by placing the ball to the under side of the hitch. Atleast I am able to do it with my set up 180 weighsafe. Also I love how light weight it is and looks great since it won’t chip like the painted ones since it’s a one piece aluminum construction

When I bought my first high weight rated hitch the only one that would work as both drop or rise was gen-y. I've been using gen-y every since. There are draw back to every hitch out there, there is only really 2 on the gen-y for me. First is the distance in between adjustment holes even on the 2 1/2 in receiver its nothing I can't work around. I would prefer it didn't sticknout so far but have gotten use to it. No other hitch had the high tow and tongue weight rating gen-y did when I bought both of mine, so staying with what is working for me.

I use the Weigh-Safe 14k hitch daily since 2017. It has quite a bit of wear around the components that move. A Weigh-Safe rep told me that it is normal and still completely safe to use. Yes, I do use it to its rated weight when hauling my mini. I also have all sizes of balls for it, so I don't have to worry about needing a ball that I don't have. The scales have been rebuilt multiple times and has gone out again. I will be replacing this hitch in the near future. I'm not sure what I will replace it with. I do like the convenience of having scales at the hitch.

I stopped using my weigh safe aluminum hitch because of the play in it. Seemed very dangerous. All it took was a few 13,000 pound loads of gravel and the hitch seemed to deform and the ball wobbled and wiggled. I didn’t believe it was still safe and went back to steel.

Weigh Safe is great without the dual ball because it doesn't give up ground clearance. Also their stainless steel ball is the most durable of the bunch. Weigh Safe wins in my book. Also 1 7/8" is available, the dual ball options are missing a ball.

I have a bullet proof hitch. Yeah it sticks out but I have never smacked my shin. There is no law about keeping hitches on trucks, so anyone that smacks their shin on my hitch they are to close to my truck. And another pro, is that i got rear ended awhile back and the bullet hitch didn't budge or had no damage. It did go through the radiator of the car that hit me. Lol. I will agree the finish does ware off. I am going to get mine powder coated before spring. Other than that its a solid hitch.

I like your videos and reviews. Not sure why you didn’t compare more equally rated hitches if made by the manufacturer. Example is the Gen-y. They make versions with larger shanks that are rated equally or higher than the Bulletproof hitch. I’ve owned both, the powder coat doesn’t last if the receiver is left on year round for either brand. Pins bent and started to shear on the Bulletproof when towing far less than it was rated for. Lube your weigh safe locking mechanism from new if you want to swap the ball and not have the lock and pin get frozen up. B&W is my favorite if you’re not towing to the limits of today’s HD trucks.

But of course, the day after I ordered mine, they came out with a lighter version, that would be nice but the heavyweight hitch is awesome. @cnyautosales382
@cnyautosales382 Год назад
I think most of these hitches come from a designer stand point, sold to individuals who want a tough look hanging off the back of the truck. In reality, most people towing commercially use pintle/ball combo hitches that are usually rated for several tons. And cost a fraction. And the problem with these hitches that store away and rotate, is you are working around the idea of leaving the hitch in the receiver. They should always be removed when not used, as the clunking when not connected always wears and wallows out the hitch pin holes on the receiver. There is no reason for a bulletproof hitch to be rated for 30+k pounds. Trucks have no business towing that weight off a platform hitch. Gooseneck trailers are a must, so don’t understand the marketing there. The weigh safe, is totally unnecessary. It is a complete reinvention of the wheel, tongue weight is not numerically important as is walking to the truck and visually inspecting if it is far too tongue heavy. You don’t need numbers to tell you if a load is not balanced correctly. Tri balls are great, if you own an F350/3500 they are worthless as the trucks sit too high in the rear compared to and F250 UNLESS the trailer coupler is adjustable. In my opinion, as most will disagree with. The only reason to buy an adjustable hitch, is if your truck has a larger rear leaf pack or is lifted. At that point, you need the long drop without sacrificing load capacity that cheaper long drop hitches do.

Interesting reasons on your choices. I would likely also agree on BW and WS being the top two choices for most people, the reasons are a lot different. I personally find the aluminum construction to be a huge benefit over the other products. I have a 10 year old TriMax that is a little dull in the finish, but it hasn't rusted at all. Aluminum is the way to go especially at such a low price point for what you're getting. The BW rusts like crazy, specifically around the pins. Those pins are also the biggest reason not to buy that hitch. Anyone can walk up, pull a couple cotter pins and leave you stranded and on the hook for buying another $350 hitch. Scale aside, the WS will not rust, locks the ball to the hitch with a key and is rated for the same pull. I see the removable ball and method to change them as beneficial. Having a 2nd ball hanging below a drop creates a snag point driving over curbs and dips in approaches, etc. Lets be real, if you're going to go through the hassle of pulling pins on the BW to flip it around and out of the way, you can do the same to change a ball on the WS, and they're providing a far more secure solution to hitch tampering and theft than anyone else in this group. The Curt isn't available in a 3" shank, which SuperDuty drivers likely care a lot about. WS is 100% the win for construction, security, clearance and features vs price - for me anyway. I'd grab a BW if I found one on Marketplace for $100 bucks, but I'm not keen on needing to remove whenever I'm not using it to avoid it going missing, or needing to check to see if someone has removed a cotter pin, etc. This goes for most of these. Trimax and WS seem to have this figured out.

One thing that has always worried me about hitch’s with coating like the bulletproof is wouldn’t the coating act like sand paper on the inside of your ball mount on your trailer? And over time give you excessive play and over all cause a accident or the need to replace?

Personally, I’ve never seen a ball hitch wear out on the truck or trailer side. I have, however, seen pintle hitches wear out from carrying around excessive loads like dozers on a dump truck.

No Anderson Manufacturing hitch? I have a Bullet Proof hitch and it actually came with a pintle hitch setup, and you're right it's really heavy but I'm very abusive on my hitches and even use it on my 550 horsepower Caterpillar powered Peterbilt with no issues. It's heavy enough you can hook a 24,000 pound gooseneck trailer to it.

Useful information! The B&W was my choice, before I listened to what your choice was. You need to edit the voiceover in a couple of places.

If I am putting the kind of way that these new trucks can pull on a hitch, I am not putting it on a hitch that does not have a gusset. My bulletproof hitch is strong as heck. Meanwhile, my buddy bent his B&W tow and stow hitch with his F250. I’ll stick with mine. Yes the Finnish has come off the ball but it’s a hitch. Its supposed to work not look pretty

I know you had the health scare and we all stumble with what we want to say. Please get checked out make sure there is nothing going on. Not trying to make fun or pick on. Just concerned. Greta info as usual and would appreciate it to keep coming for as long as you want to send it out

The weigh safe hitches will get crazy play in ball area and slider adjustment after a year or two. And they do not warranty this and consider it still safe for use. Buy a steel hitch guys if you tow alot and heavy stay away from weigh safe.
@treadlightlyservicesllc.1930
I have to say you should have included the Shocker air ride hitch. We have one for our bumper pull weight distribution camper, and 1 for our roll off dump trailer that mounts directly to the tongue of the trailer. The difference in air ride hitch makes is night and day, especially on an empty trailer with a lot of tongue weight.

US-centric. For the USA market and consumers only. The best hitch is the McHitch from Australia.

Man i spent like $500 on the new B&W tow & stow. So disappointed. Thats why im looking for a new one! It has too much play & cause my bigger trailers to sway. So frustrating

Have 2 bumper hitches and 1 gooseneck from weighsafe. The scale on all three stoped working after a couple months. Junk.

All the hitches are over priced I'm my opinion. Ya mite have been a little too quick on the editing, quite a bit of doubling and "stuttering". You have some great quality output, don't mess it up with to much quantity.
