Thank you so much for this video. As you know there are many many nursery's in the area and I've been to many of them. Still I never went to this one until I saw the video. Just came back from there and they will be delivering 12 trees later. Still I'm going back for more. The have the rarest fruit trees of great quality and Enzo was helpful and incredibly informative. Thank you for the video and Thank you Exotica. Nice to know you're local.

I've been a few times and was just there today. The pros: they have fruiting plants that you will not be able to find anywhere else in California, perhaps the the country. Spot and Steve are very knowledgeable. The cons: Its disorganized and only about 10% of the plants are marked with prices or descriptions so you can't really browse and make up your mind. There are plants all over that have grown through the bottom of the pot and become permanent fixtures on the grounds. It's the kind of place you walk in and ask for a particular plant and they lead you through the jungle to a clearing that has some plants and tell you about them. It's expensive for anything common (e.g. figs, stone fruit) that you can compare prices to. Lots of small plants in big pots. They have a tasting table, but you'd need to be comfortable eating samples that have been sitting out on a hot day(s) with bugs in a dirty environment. With so much fruit around you know the place is teaming with vermin at night. This place is kind of a labor of love for the owner as much as it's a business.

Feijoas (pineapple guavas) are my favorite fruit. However, they are not actually guavas, although in the same family. A strawberry guava for instance, or a lemon guava, are actually guavas. I love Exotica nursery! I have a few plants from there. I wish there were more places like this.

Most of Hawaii grow the pink Guava mostly for juice. They have many factories ive been to. They all grow the pink Guava. Really there's no such thing, except a handful of species that grow naturally as fruits in Hawaii, most of them have been Imported over the last 100 years

@GaryVolts
@GaryVolts 6 лет назад
You can grow them (soursop) from seeds if you have patience or buy a tree in a pot at place like Exotica, but you'd need a compatible environment for them which would only be Southern Florida if you're in the US. Southern California is too hot and dry I think. When the wind blows from the desert it drys everything out. In southern California you can grown a superior (in my view) Annona fruit, the Cherimoya.

Boy, they really need to work on their web page. It just goes to a rapid-fire video tour of a bunch of plants with no audio or time index. Do they have a print catalog? How does a person order from them by mail? There is no online order form?
@GaryVolts
@GaryVolts 6 лет назад
They aren't very organized and the lack of a web page is not out of character for the kind of nursery it is. I think they're more set up for the personal touch where you go and talk to them and they tell you all about a plant and sell it at high price rather than having you shop prices on-line and decide on your own. I think they have a telephone in their little shack and will phone orders though and they do take credit cards.

Sapodilla dont waste your time. Only Alano is self pollinating and that can take up to 12 years, if ever. Its good that you try, but grows to slow in CA. Nice fruit if you're in the tropics.

Those pineapple guavas have been growing in my front yard for over 15 years, never knew what they were called but to me they tasted like puke. I haven't tried them since I was a child so maybe I'll give it another taste when it has fruit.
@pauliewalnuts2007
@pauliewalnuts2007 5 лет назад
You should wait for the fruit to drop before you eat it. When the fruit drops on its own, that is when the fruit has reached its full ripeness. Otherwise they will not taste good.
@zengrow3098

know your stuff before you buy, they sold me a mango tree that had anthracnose but I didn't know it until I researched it afterwards. You'd think they would have kept a sickly tree off the lot but they sold it to this sucker, so congrats. Just not going to go there again.
