BEST UNDERRATED 80'S ACTION MOVIES - PART 3

The eighties were full of incredible action movies, but while a lot of them are considered classics now, some of the best movies (you never saw) routinely get underrated, so here on JoBlo we've got a few more recommendations for you!
ALIEN NATION (1988) - James Caan and Mandy Patinkin star in this buddy-cop movie with a sci-fi twist. The TV series this spawned is arguably better known than the film it was based on.
REVENGE OF THE NINJA (1983) - In the eighties Cannon Films were all the rage, and they built their reputation on the basis of their early Ninja movies starring Sho Kosugi. This is arguably his best.
RUNAWAY (1984) - Michael Crichton directs this sci-fi cop thriller starring Tom Selleck and KISS's Gene Simmons!

Tom Selleck actually started doing movies in the 1970s. The movies were lesser know movies and he had small or bit roles, but they had big name stars. I can understand why you feel The Delta Force started off slow. I think it had to do with the plot of the movie. The plot was based on 3 three actual terrorist incidents that happened in the 1970s.. The beginning of the movie where Delta Force was at the Desert One location, that was based on one of the actual first missions of the newly created Delta Force, called Operation Eagle Claw. Desert One was one of the staging areas for Eagle Claw. How the Desert One scene, in general, played out is what happened in reality. The hijacking of the airplane is based on two different terrorist incident-TWA Flight 847 in 1985 and Operation Entebbe/Thunderbolt in 1976. Since The Delta Force came out in a year after the Flight 847 hijacking, I'm sure it was still fresh in a lot of peoples' minds. But, just how everything went on in the movie, how Delta Force worked, which it was fiction, it still shows that even for a Special Forces unit, it still takes time to plan and execute an operation.

Looks like you missed it a little. It was Sam Francisco, with the nickname George (for Jetson). Not George Francisco as you state. Also, you should have mentioned that it was a legal issue with Hanna-Barbera that made it so they could not use George Jetson.
@aaronleverton4221
@aaronleverton4221 2 года назад
You sure? My memory has always been hearing him say "George Francisco" and his son was Richard, inspired by Nixon, to which Caan's character suggests using Richard Burton as a better explanation.
@mike91mdk45

Yeah, it's Sam francisco, but since caan's character hated the name puns, he decided to just call him george
@scottlewis4906
@scottlewis4906 2 года назад
@@aaronleverton4221 Yea. I distinctly remember the part where Caan in the movie laughs at that silly name he was given and says something like, "I'll just call you George." Plus... both Wikipedia and IMDB list the character as Sam Francisco. Wikipedia added "George" in parentheses. Both also mention the Hanna-Barbera conflict, so just a tiny bit disappointing it was not mentioned here. It does help (me) knowing it was a legal thing... like how long it took to get Spidey in a Marvel movie. Greed and lawyers.
@stevegeorge6880
@stevegeorge6880 2 года назад
I was 12 years old when I caught it in the theater with my dad. He mentioned that the name George harkened back to days of rather impolite racial politics. If one didn't know the name of, say, a black porter or other service industry person and didn't really want to know but wanted to address them directly, George was a common substitute. And it fits in the context of a movie where James Caan's character is kind of racist or, in this case, speciesist towards the newcomers.
@aaronleverton4221
@aaronleverton4221 2 года назад
@@stevegeorge6880 Now, as a non-American that is a very helpful explanation. Also the point about George coming from Caan's character. I was operating solely from memory and did not do any searching.

There's a whole scene about his name being "Sam Francisco" and his partner calling him George instead. So, was he "Sam Jetson" ? Then, near the end, he's singing in the car "George Francisco, open your golden gate." How does that make sense if he was George Jetson and they dubbed over it ?

So Edward was going to really hit Brad Pitt. Edward was also supposed to hit Brad in the shoulder and thats what they were going to do. But while Brad was away from Edward, the very nice director told Edward to punch Brad in the ear. Lol. So when Brad came back to do this scene and Edward hits him in the ear. That was really Brads honest to god reaction. Lol. Jump around holding his ear and saying, you hit me in the ear, shit!!! Man when I heard that, I immediately said no thats BS. Lol.
