The Irish Guy takes a look at the best unused sub from every Champions League final, including the likes of Xavi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mateo Kovacic.
Did everyone just seem forget that Eric Choupo-Moting was a preferred option to come off the bench rather than Mauro Icardi? And the Irish guy picks Pavard over him??
Well, I guess Irish guy's reasoning would be that a WC winner, who was starting in the WC, not playing the match is the best unused player!!! But considering the hype around the Icardi transfer and the price that was paid for him by PSG, it was a complete shock!!!
2020 should go to Mauro Icardi... imagine a Club paying 50 Million for you, only for Tuchel to choose Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting over you in the CL-Final
Vaporterra tbh United needs to spend money on other players before bringing in sancho like a new left back like telles or taglificao also a back up for AWB and a new center half especially a pacy one sort of like upmencano and someone to replace matic
Imagine how it feels to be Icardi, he was a regular starter and highly rated & now he has been left on the bench for PSG in favour of a former Stoke reject. Painful.
I forgot how cool the 2010 Inter third kit was. That crusader cross was awesome. And that was the most bizarre UCL final ever. First, it was the only time I ever rooted for Munich. It was the great negative football game. Bayern had 73%possession. Mou played a 9/1, the ultimate "park the bus", took 2 shots and Molito hit both.
ox is world class and very underrated, 7 goals from midfield is excellent, and his long shots sutch as his volley against arsenal or his outside of the foot shot vs genk, wow
Xavi was injured for much of that 2005-06 season with a knee injury. After months out he only came back in April so wouldn’t have been anywhere near 100% for the final.
Everything happened for a reason in Munich, if it wasn’t for Torres to win the corner for Drogba to head in that banger, we would still be on par with Arsenal, Doubt Sturridge would make a difference
Apparently Liverpool vs Tottenham has always been a “bang average mid table clash”. What football have you been watching? Since when were two of the big six teams in England a mid table clash? Newcastle vs Brighton today, that’s a mid table clash. Sunderland vs Fulham 10-15 years ago, that’s a mid table clash. Liverpool and Tottenham may have spent moments in ‘mid table’, but talent wise it’s always been a fixture of decent importance.
The big six as we know it is I think is a relatively new concept. From about 2000- 2009/12 it was the big 3/4: Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and probably Liverpool. Then came the emergence of City and Spurs as well the re-emergence of Liverpool creating the big six we know. Based on current forem though. Wolves and Leicester are the most likely to break into the current big six.
Xavi is easily the most shocking name on this list. Van bommel was a great player in his own right but leaving xavi unused on the bench is just beyond insanity
Sugam Gautam Pavard is a very good quality defender but imo Icardi is better. However I think Pavard has the potential to be better than him. It’s also stupid to compare attackers and defenders but Icardi is better.
Do the league table if every premier league or former premier league player played for their first club (example, bale to southampton, pique to man Utd and Lukaku to chelsea)
