Wish to see this BK2 in urban & forest survival in the Walking Dead TV series - breaking doors, opening cans of food, chopping woods for camp fires, & not not least of all, striking the heads of the walking zombies! I just ordered this beast & am anxious to get my hands on it for my rainforest adventures.

I think for urban survival you want a 1/4" thick knife that, in a pinch, can be used as a crowbar..
@RealitySurvival
@RealitySurvival 9 лет назад
I would agree!
@deplorableminime2453
@deplorableminime2453 5 лет назад
I absolutely understand the need of a crowbar but That is one of the most horrible crowbar with its short leverage and stumpy lenght. I think in urban survival, you want a crowbar that is a crowbar and you can use it as a crowbar. ...and a knife that is not too thick to be a knife.

Bush Survival Knife Needs: Good chopping and splitting capabilities, sharp for carving tasks, good durability. Urban Survival Knife Needs: To be able to defend yourself against others and to use as a way of getting into things, personally, i would have picked more of a combat type blade for urban survival
@schlooonginator1227
@schlooonginator1227 8 лет назад
+Dalton Hallett The trade off with a better "combat" style knife is the design compromise. The most effective kinives for hummmans tend to be much lighter and thinner than "surival" knives. A good fighter should be quite light for speed ,have a fine tip for penetration and be generally svelte in blade design ,again for weight/speed/penetration into a relatively soft target where the balance of duties for an urban survival knife demands a robust blade. The way I see it, almost any sharp knife can effectively fend off bad guys but not any knife may pry a jammed door or chop its way out of a vehicle or building. This is why I personally, would place the features of a fighter further down the list.

Nice video and many folks love the BK 2 and other super heavy-duty knives. For me I dislike the *1 pound weight* of it and think a Mora Bushcraft Knife is better because: - It can do most of the same things in the video above - It will not pull my pants down since it weighs 3 ounces - Pared with a good small axe (an X7 or Wildlife hatchet) the Mora is unbeatable in the woods
@RealitySurvival

@sweetcostarica

***** I see what you are saying. If I was a Marine in Iraq or Afghanistan I *might* want a heavy, tough, pry-bar of a knife. If I was a hiker going up a mountain side I *might* choose a Mora knife. If you can handle the 16 oz or more heavyweight 5 inch to 7 inch knives out there non-car camping or hiking then more power to you. For me if I needed that kind of knife it would be a 10 to 12 inch kukri or parang that weights in at 18 to 21 ounces. Just my honest opinion which my RU-vid page shows.

I have had a BK2 for a few years now. The first thing I did was to change the belt loop from the nylon webbing to a kydex belt loop. The coating is not an issue as it has mostly worn off of the blade. I would recommend putting a little blue lock tight on the screws in the grip. The thickness of the blade in my opinion is a plus. You are not going to break it. But it is a bit heavy. Blessings brother

You guys the sheath is not kydex. It is actually fiberglass reinforced nylon and it dulls the edge of the blade with each time you pull the knife out of the sheath.

in your opinion, how important is batoning? I ask b/c is seldom see the Bear or other survival shows stopping to baton, make feather sticks etc. What do you think?
@RealitySurvival
@RealitySurvival 10 лет назад
Well it could be critically important! But it is rarely needed. Typically that technique is used mostly in the tropics or very wet wintery climates. But I would also suggest that While Bear is entertaining, he shows many things that will get you killed.

Years ago I got the Crewman because it matches the BK9. Tough choice between it and this one. For urban and city I carry a Schrade SCAX 2 tactical axe that has a crowbar end and a Gerber LMFII because it's insulated and serrations. In the city I'm underground in subways and buildings so I want something to bust out of things like elevators etc. Live wires, maybe. Or I could just stay home nice and safe and watch youtube, ha. Canada.

While living in Southern California I carried around a Buck 120 knife and when carrying it no one bothered me and I still have that knife along with two other Buck knives. I just purchased a Ka-Bar BK-2 knife and don't know anything about the designer of the knife, but knew about the Ka-Bar military knife and it's history from WWII. I hope it turns out to be a great knife, but currently trying to get it out of the sheath after putting it in that.

@MrAjusog

I totally agree with the nylon section not being optimal but that the knife and kydex section of the sheath are awesome. I put the whole setup on my belt and had problems pulling the knife out as the nylon part would fold and buckle, so my brother found a way to adapt the sheath. He toom an "H" adapter from an old Alice pack, removed the nylon section from the sheath, unscrewed the back kydex section that attached to the nylon section (there are two kydex pieces screwed together the sheath and the bracket that attached to the nylon section), and then put the H adapter in between the two kydex pieces and screwed them back together. So now the sheath has stiff malice strapping that I can attach to any molle system and be able to pull the knife out quickly without "jamming" from the nylon piece's slack.

As a woods knife, not a huge fan of any 1/4" thick 5" blade. Learned that quick after ordering a Tops with similar dimensions. Just too thick to be a good cutter and thats the primary purpose of most knives. However, urban I think its much better suited. I think urban and I think of having a survival knife used for much more than cutting wood but prying doors,smashing whatever to escape such as sheet metal, dry wall, brick and such. This is where this knife and its indestructible build would be handy. I sold that Tops awhile ago but finally bought, what IMO is about as good a "survival" knife can get and that is the awesome ScrapYard 711. A no frills work knife with a 7.5" by 1/4" thick blade of Busse HT SR101 with their sweet Res C handle that acts insulative while giving a nice blade heavy balance . I wouldn't be surprised if this thing could be batonned through even the great Becker BK2! ABout the only thing I am not a huge fan of is the blade coating but that can be taken care of quickly. The steel is sweet and gets extremely sharp as I have used my Worksharp to get a more acute ,convex edge for more effective cutting. The SpecOps 8"sheath fits like its made for it. I was a bit sceptical about the Res C but its far tougher and harder than I imagined. At 1/4" thick ,the fact the handle portion is not technically full is a non issue and the handle will not get loose or slip off like other products. In fact,I think this material is the best handle material I have experianced from a pure user perspective as it resists most everything, absorbs vibrations while being insulative. Just aint pretty. Basic clip point design is just right for a decent penetrating tip while being plenty robust without silly swedges. Good belly and a nice flat portion for most duties. Oh, and this is what really impresses me, it has a dorky swuare choil that is brilliant because choking up on it for finer tasks changes the balance so its just perfect for fine tasks which would otherwise be unwieldy with so much blade. Sound like a fucking infomercial but I am just so impressed and pleased with it and it wasn't outrageously priced like its relatives in INFI. This thing is so bad ass I almost hope for a disaster.

***** JJ, I see them on Amazon for like 79 bucks. OK maybe the sheath could be better but you can get a new one. The knife, however, is just awesome. Good, thick, 1095 cro-van steel and it AINT gonna break on you. Great for chopping, splitting wood, cutting ropes, processing game meat, Hard pommel for pounding/smashing things or processing tinders. I have stripped the coating from mine and I can strike a ferro rod with it or use a chunk of quartz to strike sparks off the spine to ignite char cloth or liquid starters too. Great survival knife for under 100 bucks! I also really like the bk2 and bk10 as well.

+Reality Survival What would have bean better would be some sort of surroundings where you could have demonstrated some of the "urban" tasks, like an abandoned building (with permission), a construction site, a junk yard, etc. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a good knife, but I was half way into the video before I realized it wasn't mistitled after all. FWIW, there are a few good urban survival videos, but what I don't see much of is SUBurban survival, especially bugging IN. You have good content, and I'm not trying to discourage you.

I hear ya. I have been thinking of trying to locate some places to do some suburban and urban stuff. But getting permission to be on other peoples property is tough and doing it without permission is not advisable. But you are correct that is a niche that needs filled!

Totally. I was going to hammer it into a tree and hop my happy 250 lbs up on it and jump up and down on it to show how strong the blade is laterally, but forgot my hammer! lol

Say Heah J J, I didn't like my BK-2 Sheath either, nine was so tight it actually hurt my wrist and I don't think I'm a whimp and played Outside Linebacker. Anyhow I got a Small Spec Ops Sheath and it fit great, but then the BK-22 came out similar knife except it's a full flat grind but the sheath is a Nylon with a pouch Sheath so I got it and it fit's perfect, and I took my Spec Ops Sheath and it fit's my Modde Rodent 6 perfect, now That's what I'm talking about heh heh heh.

Marc Johnson I have had mine for 1 year. The sheath does dull the blade if I'm not careful pulling it out. So I would assume unless it's a very recent purchase where the issue is fixed they're till gonna dull the blade. Hopefully that time reference helps
