I've had this this vacuum for almost 8 years. Kicks butt still!

I've had a cheap Riccar for 20 years. And I've had an animal D25 DYSON. The Riccar has never needed repair. The only thing with the Riccar is the suction is so great that I've had to have the carpets restreched.
@KischteBier
@KischteBier 7 лет назад
So, the Riccar has actually damaged your carpets due to a lack of a suction control, right?
@gregsimpson621
@gregsimpson621 7 лет назад
KischteBier I guess you could say that. But in all honesty, they were older carpets that I had professionally cleaned every 4 months and weren't wearing out but being a "clean freak", they eventually needed to be restreched. Probably 12 years old and still looked new.

The Radiance is a beast. I have the Simplicity Synergy which as you probably know is the same machine just under a different brand. The direct air motor and agitation do an excellent job cleaning carpets, I would say it's right up there with my old Royal Classic Edition. (A vacuum I'll never part with) I also like how easy to use the tools are and how well made the vacuum is. I have a Sebo X4 too which is also a really well made vacuum that cleans well. The Tandem Air probably out cleans the Sebo on carpets because of the strong airflow but the Sebo does agitate well and the hose suction between the 2 is very comparable. Nice demonstration. My girlfriend's mother has a Dyson DC65 and I don't find it to be a very impressive machine, it's cheaply built too. 4 years of use have really taken a toll on it and it's been serviced.

We have a riccar for our RV, which I vac a LOT due to close quarters and 2 dogs. Love it. It is smallish, like the white one, light weight, and has a very nice bag that closes when removed. Cord is long too. Very happy. Thinking of getting a royal for our house.

Hey everyone, I have one of these tandem air vacuum cleaners and it truly is the best vacuum I own. As my picture shows I collect vacuums so I have hands on experience with vacuums ranging from kirby to hoover, and even after I use my Kirby that I keep well maintained on our low shag, the tandem air vacuum does pick up dirt that is deep in the carpet by shaking it to the top of the pile and making it bounce. Their are companys that will try to make other vacuums inferior by clogging them or giving the competition an unfair disadvantage, but when I did this test myself got the same result, this vacuum truly works as well as they say it does.

I love the Riccar Radiance, I think it’s a genius idea to have two different vacuum motors working together at the same time, but at $1600 it’s just way beyond what I can afford. I have a Dyson DC17 Animal that I bought for $10 red price from Goodwill a couple years back. If I can find a Riccar Radiance for around the same price as I found my Dyson DC17, then I would consider getting one.

I agree that Dyson is not all it's hyped up to be, however what is not being told to us here is how full the filter is on the Dyson, how used the brushroll is, and if the seal is in place or not. This is an old vacuum store trick... vacuum with the competition, and then revacuum with the brand they are selling to show you how much extra it picks up. But if you then vacuumed again with a fresh, uncompromised Dyson you would find that it then picked up more stuff that the Riccar also left behind. Again I am no Dyson cheerleader.. But for the most part Dyson will get you a clean floor, IF you do a lot of filter cleaning. My point is never go off of demonstrations. Only buy a vacuum that has a money back guarantee, try it in your home, if it doesn't do what it claims.. get that money back pronto! Riccars and Simplicity's are great vacs.. But make sure it's right for you first.
@mhtube01
@mhtube01 9 лет назад
Aaron Coal I agree to an extent as the second vacuum always wins but they usually only do one pass with each vacuum. In this video, he did numerous passes with the Dyson and less with the Riccar so I think it's a more fair demonstration of how overrated the Dysons really are. If Dyson really makes, "the best vacuum on the market," by all means it should have picked all of that up and the Riccar should have picked up a lot less than it did. If you want to compare vacuums, put them side by side with a mess in front of them and see which one performs better. Pay close attention to which one has the best agitation because that is the one you want to get. They actually sell Dysons too, they said it in one of their other videos.

all well and good, i like the old school metal , and sturdiness with performance, but what does riccars or metal royal offer to costumers that wanna spend 200$ not 700$ on a vaccum, since we are not hotels with unlimited budgets. We are left with plastic shit on mass market sold in malls, like philips etc. all the other shit. Today it's all about the dollar. i wish i didn\t throw away our old vacuum that would blow away anything the market offers today and is built like a tank.

I'm with you, I had an old school Royal when I first moved into an apartment but being the dumb ass that I was I threw it in the trash thinking it was old and crappy. Then I go to Wally World and buy the plastic shit for $150.00. I hope someone with a brain saw that Royal metal airflow agitating beast in the trash and pulled it out. Oh, and as for the plastic shit it worked great (actually, no it didn't but to my untrained eyes it seemed great) for about a month then the problems started. Having to free the roller and unclog plastic pipes going here and there was a constant chore. And the suction airflow was so weak it couldn't pick up a cheerio I had to stoop over and hand pluck shit out of the carpet constantly. I threw an all metal Royal in the trash!

Just watched your first video, I don't know that I can afford the direct-drive Royal, but is a bypass like the Riccar still a good option? I'm sick of the Dyson's cheap plastic, so I'm looking for a new option. We've got 3 dogs and usually fill up the canister of our Dyson now. Are bag-style vacuums going to need lots of constant replacement bags?

I know this is an old comment but the bypass Riccars will still be a good option if the tandem air machines are out of your budget. A Sebo X4 is also an excellent choice for a well built bypass vacuum that cleans very well and is easy to use. Both will outlcean the Dyson no problem and last a long time if maintained. As far as the bags go, the airflow through the bag compacts the dirt like a trash compacter as opposed to a bagless machine that whips it up like cotton candy. This means that you won't be changing bags nearly as often as you will empty a dirt canister (which also holds a lot less dirt)

If the order was reversed guess what, the Dyson DC17 would have gotten up some leftovers from the Riccar Radiance! Whatever vacuum is used after the other always gets up leftovers! Regardless of what type of vacuum you’re using... no matter how many times you vacuum an area with it, you’re always going to get up something with another! This gimmick has been used by sales people for many decades and it has fooled hundreds if not thousands of unsuspecting consumers to believe that they were being sold a better vacuum! Well guess what this doesn’t necessarily mean that! A proper test would have been create two separate areas for each vacuum with the same amount of dirt, vacuum each side 4 or 5 times and then measure how much dirt they picked up by weighing their contents on a scale. That would have settled the case. I’m not biased towards Dyson and I don’t hate on anything that isn’t Dyson, I love the Riccar I think it’s an amazing machine that uses two motors... but just stop using cheap disingenuous sales gimmicks! Also! If any of you people post anymore slander of me being a shill or a troll who writes paragraphs praising “his almighty Dyson”. You will be reported and sued for it! Make no mistake about that! Now cease and desist!!!

Dude, you've made your point. I don't understand how you keep repeatedly make comments like this not just for here but also on alot of other channels that compares other vacuums to Dysons. And the majority of them happen to be vacuum stores. My tip of advice to you, it's usually best to leave at least one comment on a video and call it good. You can always update your comments whenever you'd wish but making multiple comments would leave suspicion to other viewers thinking that you're so obsessed with Dyson or work for Dyson. Which I personally don't have a problem that you like Dyson and it's fine honestly. That's probably why other users have been upsetting you. And, leaving multiple comments would also show suspicion you're attacking small businesses that have products which big box stores don't have, not saying that you are but most people would think that you were trying to. That I do have a problem with. More and more vacuum stores are closing down because more and more people would rather just go buy a vacuum at a department store instead including Dyson. We really don't need anymore negativity on channels who are honest and that are trying to stay in business, they have personal lives too you know? If you just don't like the video then don't bother finish or even watch it anymore. Simple as that. Or just don't even make a comment if people are going to attack you, some would even ignore your comments cause they wouldn't ever believe you. Also I wouldn't worry much about Dysons getting beat in videos like these, Dyson will always outsell Riccar which is one of the reasons why Riccar discontinued so many models to cut corners and so many vacuum stores are closing down cause again, most would just shop for a Dyson or something else at a big box store. Anyways, that's my tip of advice to you. So in regards to the comparison of the two here, again you do have a point that any vacuum would pick something up over the other and I agree. But did you not watch the part where the Riccar actually had more agitation and airflow than the Dyson? That wasn't a biased part but actually a fact because it's just how the machines are designed and built to work. When people look for a vacuum, they would want proof of what can pick up other the other if they wanted a comparison. At the end of the day here, all that people want is to have clean carpets. I also want to have clean carpets as well and I'm even more than willing to pay for something pretty pricey like Riccar that's going to clean really well because I don't want to replace any of my carpets with bare floors. And I'll go ahead and admit here, I used to own a DC17. I miss it collector's wise but as a consumer, there's a good reason why I returned it. It was chewing up my carpet fibers and I really didn't like that at all. It's no wonder why most carpet manufactures would void the warranty if you vacuum with a Dyson. That's my two cents here.

How much does the Riccar vacuum cleaner in this video cost. I went to the Riccar site, and, if this is the same vacuum, the price is $1,600 dollars. I don't know about a lot of people's finances, but $1,600 is a lot of money to me to pay for a vacuum cleaner. My budget is more like $250 - and I didn't see one Riccar vacuum cleaner in that price range.

+amy williams The only downside to the Kirby is they are heavy. Well first of all these are not really professional vacuums. They are high quality and performing household units. The dirtiest nastiest vacuums we get in for service are bag less vacuums. Thanks for asking

@@Damitsall Our data is based on our experience in the field. The opinion of probably anyone you talk to in our field is that they are nasty. Everyone I have ever seen coming in for service are covered in dust and every time you empty them dust goes everywhere. What high end bag less are you referring to?
@Damitsall

@@fentonsewnvac When I mentioned data I was referring to tests done with particle counters and the like to test filtration. In fact there is a channel on RU-vid called Vacuum Wars and he tests this stuff sometimes. I just haven't seen him test bagged vs bagless vacuums. Some of the bagless ones they tested and passed is the Shark Apex (Corded), Shark Ion P50, and Dyson V Series cordless. I have all hard floors so I was really digging that microfiber roller on the Sharks.
@fentonsewnvac
@fentonsewnvac 4 года назад
@@Damitsall fair enough. I am familiar with Vacuum Wars. You should check out the Riccar R10CV.6 upright vacuum if you want something rechargeable, it is bagged or the Simplicity S65 stick vac. He has reviewed both of those and gave them high marks. My opinion of both the Shark and the Dyson is not very high from a standpoint of quality. Shark is not very good about having parts available and Dyson is just pure crap. We see allot of them in for service. Both companies are great at marketing and after 46 years in this industry I have learned that if you advertise it right and package it right, you can sell ice to the Eskimos and Sand to the Saudis. You can convince them that what they have is no good. I just look at it from a different perspective. As far as I'm concerned, there are no high end high quality bag less vacuums. I am quite fond of Riccar and SEBO. Great quality, filtration and cleaning ability. They are not your typical McVac. McDonalds May sell more burgers than anyone else, but it's hard to argue that they make the best or even a mediocre burger. There again all about the marketing and convivence, they are everywhere.

After hearing everyone rave about the Dyson I purchased the animal what a waste of money worst vacume I have ever owned I have to stop vacuuming several times too clean the brush head as it stops turning I hate the mess of the bag less canister as I end up covered in dust when trying to empty it and if any thing gets stuck going into the vacuum the opening at connection from the hose to unit is so small and poorly designed you can't get to it. I have had this Animal for about a year . I want my Riccar back going to go see if they will give me anything for a trade . Bagless vacuums my be ok, but they will lose suction when the filters clog. Its like when you have a bagged vacuum and the bag is full you lose suction or have no suction at all. Same goes for the older style Kirby vacuums that had a dirt cup type system with no bag. The dirt collection container fills up and you lose suction. Any vacuum will lose suction when the filters and/or dirt collection container is full. The worse part is the ridiculous prices on filters for bagless vacuums. Sure they claim that many are washable, but you can only wash them so many times before they start falling apart....then you go spend $50 or more on replacement filters. I have a bagless Hoover pet rewind vacuum and it works very well except once the filters get dirty and you wash them you are stuck without a vacuum for at least a day while the filters dry. My fix was to buy another set of filters....so now the $160 vacuum is a $210 vacuum and it still doesn't work any better LOL. Its nice to not buy bags, but at the same time having to wait for the filters to dry isn't the greatest productivity of the day LOL. I picked up an older Hoover Encore which uses bags and it does just as well picking up dirt as the bagless one does, but I don't have a bunch of filters to replace. The bag is the filter and you can get hepa bags for them as well if you wish. I can't comment on the Riccar as I've never used or owned one but I suspect it will do pretty well except many people are turned away by price now. They'll buy a dozen cheap Walmart vacuums and be fine with it, but they won't spend that same amount of money and buy a vacuum that they'll still have in 20 years or even longer. My Kirby (grandma's actually) was 39 years old when the motor finally failed in it....looking back I should have found a repair shop and had it repaired. Many people want the lightest thing they can find because they aren't strong enough to actually use an old style vacuum that will last the rest of their life. Granted the Kirby, Riccar, Rainbow, and Royal are $1000+ machines they'll outlive all the off the shelf vacuums being built now. In one way or another if the vacuum doesn't fail, the replacement essential parts will not be offered any longer forcing you to buy yet another new vacuum. I've used and owned several different vacuums over the years, and none of them lasted more than a few years, none lasted more than 10 years, and the Hoover Encore I have been using is about 7 years old I think, it may be older, but I've had mine for 7 years....and I'm pretty sure it was used when I got it as it wasn't in a box LOL.

+William Todd (williamtodd) I have three vacuums as of yesterday. The first one I got is a Eureka ESP from the early 90s which is the most powerful machine I have. (has the 7 amp motor shared with the Sanitaires) then I have a Hoover Convertible from the 80s which has a 5 amp motor. Then yesterday I got a Royal Classic Edition from 1989 which has a 6 amp motor. The Royal needs to be cleaned up but runs well. The other two work perfectly and I have videos of them on my channel. I also need to buy bags for the Royal and belts are on the way and I can't wait to use it. I'm taking it to my local vac shop today to have it cleaned up and fully tuned up so it works like new again. I had that done to the Hoover and they did a great job. The Eureka is in the best shape and worked perfectly from the day I got it. All 3 are great deep cleaners though and are built to last unlike anything new today. The Royal is all metal construction which is really nice. The Eureka and Hoover have plastic hoods and undersides but metal handles, bottom plates, and of course beater bars. The Hoover has a plastic fan though sadly but the Eureka has a metal one. Feel free to check out my videos and you can see them in action.

I don't trust the supply of parts vs a Kirby which you can find fans, bags, emptors, belts, brushrolls and so on Kirbys are just easier to repair and keep running yourself like up to 20 to 40 years or more and they are more functional to me tool wise I don't hate Riccar or dislike them jus if I were to by a vacuum for my house I prefer something easy to repair :)

although I'm partial to Sebo and Windsor, I agree that Dyson is a subpar machine. I own a carpet cleaning company and I can Lways guess who owns Dyson... and I'm never wrong. Their carpeting is always dingy and crushed. Tacony machines are light years better than anything Dyson has to offer and a much more sanitary way of dust disposal than any bagless machine can offer. Tacony machines are CRI Gold Approved, Dyson is nowhere on the list.

I agree that this guy might as well sell door to door. Riccar really does sell the best vacuums. just not this one. The Riccar Vibrance is one of Riccars best vacuums. They Start in the $200.00 to $500.00 range. SO a Dysoon DC 28. In Three years of use and now needs a new power head assmb at a cost of $250.00. Yikes. A $200 Vibrance will still be running strong and really cleaning your home.

I'm a vacuum tech and no that is not the case Riccar or Simplicty (sister vacuum) has much greater air flow and roller agitation it cleans deeper into the carpet than Dyson average lifespan of Riccar 15-20 years average life span of the newest Dyson 2-5 years
@zmanifest
@zmanifest 9 лет назад
Ben is actaully right, whatever machine goes second always gets up leftovers. Reverese the demo and the Dyson will also get up what was left behind. Even tandem air machines will leave dust particles behind, they do leave less than avrage machines but still they don't get everything.
@alexzufelt
@alexzufelt 9 лет назад
+zmanifest not in this case because of the suction which is about 5 percent of cleaning will only get what's on top you need airflow not suction to get deeper into the carpet
@alexzufelt
@alexzufelt 9 лет назад
+Zollie Berliner yes I sell them for a living the Dyson or any canister vacuum uses suction which is small percentage of cleaning which doesn't allow it to penetrate the carpet simplicty or Riccar uses high air flow and suction along with a three brush metal roller it beats at 15,000 a minute and it uses horse hair so it's gentle and doesn't tug the carpet if you ever get new carpet and use a Dyson on it the Dyson will void the carpets warranty because it damages it
@alexzufelt

+Zollie Berliner it will only live a quarter of the life span of it

Don't let the size fool you. They hold more than you think. Most people, even with pets, will get about 4 weeks out of a bag. Without pets, they will get 4-6 weeks out of a bag. Bagless units have far less capacity, therefore you are constantly dumping them out. Not to mention you have to clean & or replace filters. There is far more maintenance issues with bagless vacuums than with bagged units. Bagless vacuums are just nasty.

I wish vacuum cleaner manufacturers would stop promoting how much suction their various models have, especially those which are promoted as “never losing suction”. Vacuum cleaners are NOT about suction, but rather AIR FLOW! Dirt moves where AIR FLOWS, NOT in an enclosed “suction” environment. Case in point: Hold your arm up to your mouth, and suck! Suction, but NO AIR FLOW; GET IT?! This is why nearly EVERY vacuum cleaner on the market FAILS!!! There is only one vacuum cleaner on the market that maintains its AIR FLOW, (because they hold the patent) but it costs $5000.00 I used to sell them, but I won’t be divulging it’s name here, I’m not a supporter of free advertising!
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 8 лет назад
+dalex60 They all lose suction when the bag gets full or the filters clog. You are left with either changing a bag, or having to wash filters and let them dry for a day or more before you can resume vacuuming. I'll stick with a bag. I hate the bagless crap they make now none of them work very well, and none of them last very long.
@gregsimpson621

William Todd Agree. The bagless, although I enjoy the ease of use, have like 3 - 4 filters that need to be cleaned on a regular maintenance schedule or will not last (my experience).

Then again if it was metal and not plastic, MAYBE, but still, at least that's here in Europe,but i;m sure there are special stores with proper ones for 10k i;m not interested, i;m not a hotel owner, i;m a fuckin young man that needs money for children too

That Dyson he's using is ancient; I almost can't tell what it is. Also - this guy is such a doof that he actually misses the key selling point differentiating a Riccar and Dyson upright - the Riccars have virtually 0 air leakage, meaning that all of the exhaust is going thru the filter. Dyson uprights - even the cinetics - seem to leak all over the place on testing. Like, come on man, you make a living selling vacuums, but a little nuance into it ffs. Also, I'm not sure if made in America is much of a selling point these days lolol, Like ionno are we really that good at making shit?

@zmanifest
@zmanifest 5 лет назад
Exactly. Regardless of what type of vacuum you're using no matter how many times you go over places with, you're always going to get up something with another! A proper test would have been to create two side by side sections for each vacuum, put the same amount of dirt down for them, vacuum over the dirt 4 or 5 times and then measure how much dirt that they picked up by weighing the amount on a scale.

Vacuum the carpet with Riccar first then the Dyson and I'll bet you the Dyson picks up dirt after the Riccar Vacuum! This guy is just doing the old school Kerby Vacuum sales trick. Most people want bagless vacuums today not bulky bag vacuums like the Riccar.

No trick, The KIRBY really does clean better than nearly any vacuum out there. (I have been in the business 30 years). The Simplicity and Riccar Tandem air machines are really as advertised as the video shows. The Dyson DC65 may prove to clean better than he shows here, but I think this video pre-dates this model
@NickWilkes5166
@NickWilkes5166 9 лет назад
Erik Tate Yes this video predates the DC65. The DC65 is the best vacuum that Dyson has made, and is what I feel as the best vacuum that you buy for under $500 When this video came out the DC41 was Dyson's "Top of the line" but they were junk. The DC17 has much more agitation than the DC41. I just got the DC65 and it says on it that it has 25% more brush power than the DC41, so even Dyson saw that it didn't have enough agitation.
@zmanifest
@zmanifest 7 лет назад
I believe that you are right about that since there's no videos showing the reverse of this experiment! This lame unconvincing experiment has been done for many decades and has fooled many people into believing that the vacuum a salesman is selling them is better than the one that they were using, but this really doesn't mean that the Riccar is a better machine because whatever vacuums after the other always gets up leftovers! This demo should be reversed to see what the Dyson picks up after the Riccar, otherwise it's just a neat little gimmick that will fool many unsuspecting people who won't think on a deeper level after seeing such an experiment! A pity how people have been thinking the same about three years ago and no videos have been put up to refute what they have been saying, it's just shameful!

Thank you for your comment. We also sell the Sebo and they are great vacuums. Every vacuum has it pluses and minuses. There is no perfect vacuum. With that being said, it's hard to beat the Riccar Tandem Air vacuums for deep cleaning of carpets, The direct air motor is the key to that. It directs the airflow at the carpet and has great agitation, both are key to efficient deep cleaning of carpet.

A $150 Eureka or Dirt Devil that's replaced every year would add up to 1500 after 10 years. I don't know about Riccar, but a Kirby DEFINITELY lasts that long if not twice as long trouble free. It's worth it in the long run. The cherry on top is buying gently used instead of brand new. Get it for a few hundred bucks, bingo.

i hear good things about the kirby yet in a home with stairs it is way too heavy. my riccar doesn't sound too good when its on now it squeals really bad. It cost just as much as a dyson too, and getting the replacement bags is a pain in the butt. I also have to say I had a eureka the boss for 9 years and that thing picked up about the same amount of dirt.
